For the first time in 21 years, @Google is practically unusable. Favicons are distracting in list format and black URLs conflate with black meta descriptions—nothing draws the eye. Also, why is the URL above the page title? I can't believe this shipped to 100%.

Not sure why anyone would rely on @RobinhoodApp again. Either the exchange has halted trading on a stock, or it hasn't. Either public discussion of public stocks is legal, or it isn't. This isn't their call to make unilaterally. Expect the lawsuits to be swift, and successful.

I know founders who regret exactly this. Early revenue from local maxima products is a trap that prevents you from seeking the global maximum. It can be super dangerous to monetize a business too early before you know you have PMF with a large market.

Authentication is broken. From passwords, to password management, to 2-factor, to "remember me", to needing to re-log-in to Google every couple weeks regardless, it's all terrible. It's irretrievably broken. I am me, and this is my iMac. It shouldn't be this hard.

Day-trading crypto now is largely the same waste of time that day-trading stocks was in the original .com boom. The winners (e.g. Bezos) sat down, got to work, and focused on creating real long-term value.

Choosing San Francisco in 2020 is like choosing Java in 2010. You can do it, you might even be able to build a great company with it, but it’s a legacy choice. It’s the default. Proven, but makes it harder to do simple things and doesn’t give you an advantage over incumbents.

The unspoken truth here is that Elon is brilliant at solving seemingly-impossible technical problems. Twitter, today, is not a technical problem, and hasn’t been for years. It’s a leadership/EQ problem writ large, and he’s really bad at EQ. And the world is worse off for it.

There’s no panacea, but my advice would be to tie design rollouts to very clear functionality rollouts/improvements, so each of your users can rationalize why it’s worth it for them to unlearn and relearn your product. Otherwise you just annoy them.

Less than 5 years ago, Salesforce (SF’s biggest employer) led the charge to pass Prop C which disproportionately affected financial services businesses. Today, Stripe, Block and Schwab have all left SF and Salesforce continues to dump office space.

I’ve been ~3 feet from wild lions in Africa. They are majestic, awe-some (in the literal sense), and placid unless threatened. Same with elephants. Killing them with modern technology isn’t impressive. It’s weakness and insecurity manifest. The moral depravity astonishes me.
