Why are there protests at DP centres?
Is racism involved? For some, yes, but that doesn’t fully explain it.
Are there genuine concerns about services?
Ukrainians are more of an issue in this regard, and we don’t see protests about them.
So what is it?

Remember, when Tony Holohan rocked up to the RCSI in a gown to get his award, he had banned graduation ceremonies in every 3rd level institution in the country.
20 years ago this month I bought a clapped out 2 bed cottage with an asbestos roof in the middle of nowhere, while everyone around was building mansions. Still here today. Solid as a rock.
There are young people commuting into Dublin City centre from houses with 30 years mortgages while there are Dublin City Council tenants not paying their rent and collecting €14k per year tax free for renting out a room.
Think about that.

64 people on trollies yesterday, compared to 479 a week ago. Abundentally clear now that A&E was being roundly abused. Lessons need to be learned.

This is a democracy, not a technocracy. Life is about health, happiness and freedom, not life span.

You think we should go back to 8 people living in 2 room hovels and dying at 35 after spending our entire lives footing turf and eating mealy potatoes?
This is scathing. No other agency could survive this level of criticism without a response from government. NPHET have been elevated to a position that breaches any normal democratic threshold.
Had my passport checked at steps of plane in Dublin this morning. Significant GNIB presence. Why did we have to endure 2 years of left wing vanity about "war and persecution" before this penny dropped? A billion euros added to expenditure for the next decade to indulge them.
Stephen Donnelly got 7.6% of the FPV in Wicklow in 2020. He was elected on the 15th count. There is zero prospect of him being re-elected. And yet here he is, micro-managing your life.
I'm vaccinated. I think vaccines are safe. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated.
But mandatory vaccination and the normalisation of hate towards people who chose not to be vaccinated is not safe.
Candidates, best of luck. I ran twice. I got a few hundred votes. You may not win a seat, but for the rest of your life, you'll be able to look the blowhards and cynics in the eye and say that you at least had the courage to put your money where your mouth is.

Saw International Protection up close today. On flight back from very safe EU state, toilet was occupied twice for over 30m each time. The 2 passengers involved thereafter turned up at the Garda Immigration passport check claiming they had no passport and didn't speak english.
Sitting here flicking between 15k at French GP or 60k in Budapest for Hungary v France, thinking about my kids football match being cancelled due to a "close contact".
It's humiliating being Irish at the moment.
If you could house all these people in the morning, there's be even more tents there in 6 weeks. That's how pull factors work.
The people who deny this are entirely to blame for this tragedy. This was not one inevitable.

Note: they'll divert your attention next week with the promise of some vapourware tax cut that will never see the light day.
Billions on PCR tests, billions on PUP, billions on PPE...they even spent €350k on 2 million "I got vaccinated" badges, but free antigen taxes for a couple of months is populism apparently.

So if you're a journalist with a Leinster Rugby season ticket it's OK to ask questions, but if you're a single Mum in Drimnagh you're a racist?
So will this be it every winter? Where people on low incomes and small business owners are forced out of their jobs onto PUP, while the public sector and laptop class get to stay home on full pay, ordering fancy takeaways and watching box sets?
Pearse Doherty says "an interim operator must be found for the Stobart routes". Who does he have in mind? KLM? Emirates? The economic illiteracy of these people is staggering.
Fine Gael is sitting on a booming economy with full employment and staring down the barrel of electoral armageddon.
Varadkar is more like a B list celebrity than a Taoiseach.
My 17 year old €10.50 per hour working in a local restaurant.
How much would you like him to earn so that prices here are the same as in a Chinese restaurant you were at in the Costa Brava last week?
€4 per hour? Would that be OK?
Seeing so many tweets of people's positive antigen tests, and noting intention to isolate. That NPHET withheld these for 18 months verges on criminal negligence.
How The Ditch is constituted, funded or staffed doesn't change the facts it has reported. Its currently the only media outlet doing any investigative journalism, while MSM PolCors are hanging around Leinster House looking for jobs.

@MichealMartinTD
, about time someone said it, The Ditch is nothing more than an electoral weapon, pushing an agenda of anti-government parties. Interesting to note the Pro Russian foundations of this outlet.

That's 43 years ago. It was a horrible incident but you can't present individual events from the Troubles in isolation. That's really disingenuous, and really has nothing to do with modern Sinn Féin.
@mjc0ughl4n
You don't want an asylum system that is fair and efficient. You want one that is open to wide scale abuse and have no issue with the humanitarian consequences provided all the right people are "owned".
All 3 kids stuck at home *again* due to slightly stronger than normal wind. Sun out now at 1pm and total calm.
The country is being run by busybodies and neurotics.

"Full" refers to housing, sewerage, water, electricity, schools, GPs etc, stuff that takes years to bring on stream, as evidenced by people sleeping in the streets.
It doesn't refer to land mass. We're talking about people here. Not sheep.
People in Ireland want to see Direct Provision ended.
I am absolutely committed to dismantling the failed system and replacing it with a new model that is rooted in human rights.

Dublin is a small city by international standards. The frequency with which tourists are ending up with life altering injuries is an absolute disgrace.

For what it's worth:

New text is contradictory. You can't protect Marriage and grant equal status to "durable relationships", whatever they turn out to be.
Care Ref: No
The original text is anachronistic, but its better than the waffle replacing it.

He's talking about part-time workers. Contemptible that you're trying to smear one of the country's largest regional employers with misinformation.
SF don't want Corporation Tax increase to apply where turnover is less than €750k.
Who's going to tell them Corporation Tax is levied on profit, not turnover?
Imagine having the bravery to confront Gerry Adams at a SF conference, about the murder of your husband, and then bring hounded out of the place by a mob of nationalist thugs. This is Sinn Féin. Then. Now. Always.
Technically, you could take all the TDs from all the political parties, put them in a room, send in a stranger, and that stranger would leave the room an hour later thinking they'd just attended a single party conference.

At the end of this, how do we reconcile the knowledge that we don't actually have inalienable rights? That we exist entirely at the whim of the media and politicians?
It was a criminal offence to go to Dublin Airport in March.

Thus far, the Government's response to inflation has been to:

We're dealing with people who literally haven't the faintest idea what they're doing.
If you need a test and a vaccine passport then logically the passport is worthless.
There is no science in any of this. It's all political. Political leaders needing to be seen to be doing something.
A dude at work, in his place of work, clean shaven, clean suit, no mask, well paid, where he has been every working day for the last year, who has just suspended a life saving vaccine, asks people to "do a little bit more".

Now it means you're the Government Minister.
