Six months ago, I was asked to extend my show each morning and it has been privilege to be there every day, to hear your stories and see your messages. Monday sees us return to ‘normal’ at
@BBC6Music
and I wanted to take this chance to say a heartfelt thank you to you all. Chris
Wow. Really blown away (and a bit emotional). A huge hike in audience figures for my show and for
@BBC6Music
If you ever listen, thank you so, so much x
I need to say a massive thank you if you ever listen to my show. The listening numbers announced today are big, big up since this time last year. Thank you thank you thank you if you listen
@BBC6Music

I am writing this as a massive, massive thank you.
The latest radio audience research shows that from 6.30am and particularly from 7am, more of you are tuning in than ever before
@BBC6Music
I'm completely humbled and so grateful. THANK YOU 🙏 x
Well, that’s me pretty much done for 2020
@bbc6music
It’s been such a privilege sharing morning’s with you.
I've done my best to navigate through it all.
I got into radio because I was fascinated by voices talking directly to me. Thanks for having me with you this year x x x
A thought...
A lot of artists, bands, small labels, indie record shops and venues exist on a financial knife edge with testing times ahead. If you normally stream music by new acts then maybe jump in and BUY something this weekend.
When I was at school I visited Radio 1 and watched Steve Wright doing his show. To this day I have never seen any other DJ perform like him in a studio. An absolute master of radio craft and always so supportive. What an incredible broadcaster. What devastatingly sad news.
A little bit (a lot) blown away by huge (record) new audience numbers for my
@BBC6Music
show.
Thank you 🙏 so much to long time and new listeners. You’re bloomin’ amazing 😉 and I am very humbled. Thank you. So much 🙏 Thank you 🙏
Happy news that my show has done record figures. Thank you so so so much if you listen. I’m thrilled and a bit - 😭 - and a bit - 💥- and a lot THANK YOU 🙏
@BBC6Music
After 8 amazing years together, today is my last early morning with Producer Jen. She’s put her heart and soul into the show and been brilliant to work with. Every. Single. Day.
Thank you Jen, for everything x
@jennysmithUK
@BBC6Music
Thanks so much for today. The kind words and the encouragement, it meant a lot. Felt like the first day at a new school - what I’m saying is, thanks for not roughing me up and breaking my protractor. See you tomorrow x
If you’ve ever listened to our
@BBC6Music
show this year, THANK YOU so much 🙏 we love you ❤️ Merry Christmas from me & Producer Jen

So that’s me clocking off the airwaves for 2021. Maybe not a vintage year but we got through it together. Always a privilege to spend time with you on your radio - let’s remember those we love who are no longer with us and cherish those who are. Thanks, as always, Chris x
Oh
@shaunwkeaveny
, where to start? A friend, a colleague, an inspiration and one of the funniest people I know. Top 20 at least. I’ll miss you buddy, even though we mostly passed like radio ships in the night/ morning. Much love,
Chris x x
If the government needs any advice on staggered returns to school, they should maybe talk with my old woodwork and physics teachers who had a staggered return to school from The Flying Horse, each weekday at around 1.40pm
Heartfelt thanks if you ever listen to my show
@BBC6Music
- we got a lovely big bump in the latest set of listening figures. Thank you to the amazing team from
@audioalways
Sam, Sam, Josh, Rob & Sophia 💙
Hugest thanks for listening 🙏🙏🙏
Wow. A huge bump in listeners to the show
@BBC6Music
10s of 1000s of new listeners according to the latest RAJAR. Thank you so much if you ever listen. It means the world 🙏❤️
That’s my last early show of the year, done. It’s a privilege to share mornings with you
@BBC6Music

It took a global pandemic to start searching but after months and months, I finally found it...
MY PICTURE OF ME SHAKING HANDS WITH THE POPE

Pure witchcraft from
@ChrisBartonArt
. He makes giant cassettes with meticulously detailed hand painted covers. Oh, and he made a giant cassette recorder too
It’s nearly my bedtime.
I always loved the idea of being a grown up so I could stay up late. I now go to bed at the same time as I did when I was eight years old 😂😂😂😂
The
#FACup
is all about the chance for teams to play legendary sides and manage to keep up with them for 90 minutes. And I really think Liverpool managed to do that today
#Salop
Wow. What a weekend! Think I’ve had my fill of burgers and cider for breakfast. No shower - the same clothes for four days. Singing along to songs at the top of my voice at all hours
I didn’t go to Glastonbury by the way, I was just at home but Mrs H was away at a conference 😳
Annie Nightinale’a influence on radio broadcasting will be felt forever - I grew up listening to her shows and she is always spoken of with much love and reverence from all those that I know who worked with her. A true legend in the radio world
An incredible moment from last night at
@ThePieceHall
@Tim_Burgess
joined
@Johnny_Marr
for a brilliant version of Electronic’s Getting Away With It
What’s the best on stage collaboration you’ve seen at a gig? This one will be hard to beat for me
A text book example of ‘privilege’ is Arsenal fan
@piersmorgan
telling Shrewsbury Town fans that there was no magic in their F.A. Cup match. You didn’t see it Piers because it doesn’t affect you, you didn’t feel it. But I can assure you the magic is real
Hate to be a party-pooper but Shrewsbury nicking a draw against Liverpool’s reserves isn’t proof of the ‘Magic of the Cup!’
It just shows how unimportant the FA Cup now is to a club like Liverpool that they rested most of their best players.

So, this is Christmas. Definitely a time to reflect and to look forward too. Thanks so much for your company, comments and support over the past year. I’m here for you on

That’s me done for another week. Hope there have been plenty of cool tunes for ya. We had a sweet rise in audience figures for the show this week and it means the world. Thank you so much for listening. Have a great weekend x
Thrilled with the latest

Thank you to the team

and most importantly, on behalf of all of us, thank you so much if you ever listen 🙏🙏🙏
It’s always intrigued me where songwriters find inspiration for their lyrics. Was David Bowie watching the 1971 film version of Kidnapped (starring Michael Caine), when he felt the need to grab a pen and some paper??
Just got to the restaurant
Me: “Oh my goodness, how did you even know?”
Waiter: “Some bloke phoned this afternoon. Sounded like that Craig Hawkins guy off the radio” 😬
Super excited to have the premier of a brand new track by Ben Howard.
It’s totally stunning and I’ll play it in the second hour of tomorrow morning’s show
@BBC6Music
@benhowardmusic

So that’s it for me for a week (on radio, not necessarily on twitter).
A chance for me to thank all my listeners for brightening up the mornings every weekday on my show. I never take my role for granted. Take care of yourselves and each other. Much love, Chris x x

Prisencolinensinainciusol by Adriano Celentano.
A brilliant song, sung in a made up language that is meant to mimic how English (with an American accent) sounds to Italians. Sing along if you know the words
