I tell you, I’m a bit emotional. I was 40 yesterday and I spent nearly half that waiting for a Leeds team like this. Bielsa is a once in a lifetime phenomenon.

@MikeSegalov
Yes. Hits you in the weirdest ways at the weirdest times. Didn’t realise I would be this worried about someone who I find politically so disagreeable. But that’s humanity isn’t it? We all feel a bond.
I think Lineker behaves very reasonably here, he just disagrees with her, as he’s entitled to, and stays polite even when she accuses him of antisemitism without evidence. And by the way, this yet again cheapens the very real antisemitism that’s out there at the moment.
Love this video of
@MagicMagid
on the campaign trail and then winning. Charming people, dancing the soul train, forgetting his glasses at the count. He’s one of a kind, he cares, and we need more politicians like him.
@peterwalker99
Peter, mega respect for you, but I don’t understand how you can lead on the reporting of GBN antisemitism and conspiracy theories one week, then celebrate an appointment there the next. Unless you think he’ll stop the conspiratorial madness there? Which seems unlikely.
The one good thing about the EFL charging Bielsa will be the four hour speech he and Lamrani deliver to them at the hearing, referencing obscure socialist prisoners of conscience and show trials. They’ll crumble before him

Moving and importing

demo for ceasefire, ending the siege, and releasing the hostages. A very big crowd, a growing movement, Jews rejecting the narrative of war and death
When I was at the Guardian, I wouldn’t have presumed I had a right to write opinions about gender, Corbyn or Jews, because it wasn’t my job to. It’s such entitlement to assume you can just write whatever you want because you’ve demanded to.
"They have abandoned very much of their Jewish identity. They don't go to shul at all. It's become a purely cultural thing around a bowl of chicken soup."
This shocking clip shows Labour GE candidate Luke Akehurst, a non-Jew, launching an antisemitic rant about non-Zionist Jews.
Today’s my last day at the Guardian after 7 and a bit years where we put out some amazing films, won some things, and I got to work with a brilliant team of filmmaking talents. I’ll really miss our video team. Get me in future on Charlie.phillips

One thing you won’t see discussed by the UK political pundits or even most politicians is that the climate is even more well and truly effed now as UK voters rejected a party offering radical change on the climate and went with a guy who couldn’t even turn up for a climate debate
As racists and fascists try and intimidate a Muslim woman driving a bus for the public, her dignity far outweighs the shirtless buffoonery and digusting behaviour of those intimidating her.
Extremists like these are a threat to the peace of our communities.
Jonathan Glazer is Jewish. Mica Levi’s Jewish grandparent escaped the Holocaust. Being Jewish isn’t incompatible with compassion for Gaza. More of this, all the time, please.
the zone of interest team at every opportunity has discussed how the story told in their film is what’s happening in gaza and to palestinians right now.
@peterwalker99
I’m not sure the Guardian has people with as extreme views as GBN does, and so regularly, though? I can’t personally congratulate someone joining a place that thinks my religion is responsible for a global conspiracy, no matter how good a journalist or nice person they are.
@annettedittert
@carolecadwalla
As others have said, there’s a real access problem for a lot of media outlets who want to cover the crisis in hospitals. Access often frustratingly denied up top. Not that some outlets aren’t also just ignoring it as well!
So, I'm going to be leaving the Guardian at the end of March - message me if you have exciting documentary/film projects you'd like me to work on! - but if you'd like to be The New Me, you can apply here. I'll miss the Guardian, and this is a brill job
These people look completely crazy, to the extent that they don’t seem to even think there’s an occupation at all. They also seem to have forgotten that Glazer is also Jewish, and speak about him like he isn’t. This is really crazy.
More than 450 Jewish creatives, executives and Hollywood professionals have signed an open letter denouncing Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” Oscar speech.
“Milo, seven, was in Oxford Circus with his father and said he thought the protests were a good thing.
If climate change is not avoided, “it’s going to get so hot like Venus. Everyone is going to die and there’s going to be a total extinction.”
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg
You’re so far from living his values, you’d be one of those who told to change, he’d be ashamed of what you do in his name. I’m a Jew and even I know this.
Inhuman. No interest in the welfare of refugees there, nor the nature of the attack - which was a far right attack, which her government’s words and policies have led to.
There was a distressing incident in Dover earlier today. I am receiving regular updates on the situation. My thoughts are with those affected, the tireless Home Office staff and police responding. We must now support those officers as they carry out their investigation.
Proud to be on this updated list of creative Jewish people protesting the censoring and attacking of Jewish voices opposing the killing and the traumatising
Brilliant. Never in trouble. And 10th is higher than I dreamed we’d reach this season. Feels like we’ve settled in nicely now. And Raphinha - bloody hell

"She also called on distributors, funders and commissioners help to build “a new, equitable, and politically protected indie media distribution system”." - This needs to happen, in her memory
Horrendous stories of online (and then offline) abuse for himself and others from
@OwenJones84
- imagine living with this every day. Be nice to each other.
I'm going to be that guy. Shouldn't it be the big budget entertainment shows and/or the expensive presenters you cut before you go for the news coverage if you're a public broadcaster?
@jamesrbuk
they've directly worked with victims on this. Lush aren't like most other companies, they work directly with activists, this is far from being cynical.
@Baddiel
That need to consider your unconscious bias also applies to you though, and what it means for you to be elevating discrimination against us Jews above that against other minorities, rather than seeing an overall struggle against racism. I’d consider what bias that shows?
Fascinating. Around a quarter of British Jews now self-identify as anti-Zionist or non-Zionist.
Another 14% are unsure.
The overall number self-identifying as Zionist has fallen markedly, particularly among younger Jews.
If you think another Labour leader would have prevented this, you’ve got a far more optimistic view of the country than me. If it really is that size of majority, it’s an embrace of Johnson’s trumpian politics regardless of the opposition.
Grateful for writers like
@chakrabortty
who have paid attention to what’s happening in Britain, where people like this are destitute and ignored. This is where we are as a society, it’s so bleak.
More specifically, the G has in the last 5-7 years so clearly been on the side of scepticism towards trans rights, and of representing Jews with fears about Corbyn. You just cannot argue otherwise.
This is really embarrassing and says a lot about the current state of UK documentary funding. It wasn’t even much in the first place and it’s still been canceled. I feel for Sheffield having to put this statement out and be the face of it
An article and a thread that chills to the bone. We knew it was coming and we’ve watched it happen, powerless, being told we were being alarmist and, in some cases, racist and/or self-hating.
The famine and slaughter in Gaza was completely inevitable from the start.
It was promised by Israel leaders and officials from day one.
There is no excuses for not knowing what would happen.
New column 👇
Whilst I’d love more vegan pasties at grounds, let’s be clear that Sky’s “green” weekend is complete greenwashing bullshit. You’ve missed this game to a time when public transport is impossible. And you never answer concerns about it.
I don’t agree at all that you do doc shorts because they might win awards or because they’re a stepping stone. They’re a great storytelling format in themselves that people want to watch. Glad some people in here agree. Respect for the short documentary!
So fair enough, you might move on to somewhere that’ll let you do whatever you want, but don’t gripe because you didn’t have a totally free rein in the role you just left. Who does, in most jobs? Journalism isn’t a free for all for your whims.
The last two years’ short doc Oscars have been won by the Guardian and the NYT, and with all due respect to Netflix and other friends, that’s a pretty amazing achievement considering the comparable budgets of the documentary teams

I don’t really understand your point here Barney. Lots of Jews are seeing parallels between then and the language being used now. It’s worrying that the HET - which is never worried about invoking Never Again when it comes to Israel - is trying to minimise Jewish concerns, no?
@Michael_TSB
No one watches matches illegally, Michael, we all switch off the internet and wait for match of the day highlights, just like the premier league wants us to.
One more random Sundance thought - the debate over Jihad Rehab really shows AGAIN the desperate need for specialist documentary reviewers who know the form, the industry and the ethics. Without them- and most orgs don’t have them - doc reviews can be so basic
More than 150 Jewish creatives have signed an open letter in support of Jonathan Glazer’s Oscars speech, including:

I’m the grinch I know, but Muslims gave up a family Eid, Jews didn’t have family Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur, people have sacrificed big weddings and birthdays. So why are our lives being designed round Xmas?
@GaryLineker
Good, but part of this is also calling out men who harass and belittle women sharing their stories online and in the media, and yesterday you didn’t do that. These things aren’t separate and you can’t pick and choose when you call other men out.
