BREAKING: After
@sasha_urban
reported on long list of allegations against USC doctor, a man came forward to say he’d also experienced an invasive rectal exam from Kelly - 20+ years ago at UCLA
NEW: A former UCLA student says Dennis Kelly gave him two invasive and inappropriate rectal exams in the 1990s. 48 patients at USC have made similar allegations towards him.
TJ Cox defeated three-term Republican Rep. David Valadao on Wednesday, giving Democrats a gain of seven House seats in California and 40 nationwide — the party’s strongest midterm showing since the Watergate era in the mid-1970s.
This August, I’ll be moving to a different sort of newsroom. So excited to join
@USCAnnenberg
. Wishing
@latimes
bright and brilliant success with what's ahead.
I’m aching for the loss of
@hfuhrmann
, a mentor in not one but two jobs.
In tribute I share this TikTok he helped the
@AnnenbergMedia
newsroom with, on something he helped the next generation understand: the importance of precise language regarding race.
Genesee County Sheriff (Flint, Michigan) Chris Swanson put down his helmet and baton and asked protesters how he could help.
The protesters chanted "walk with us" so the Sheriff joined — and walked alongside the protesters in solidarity.
Leadership.🌎❤️
This is a huge deal and second major story happening as our student journalists are on Spring Break. They scrambled from locations near and far and will continue reporting. 👏🏼
ICYMI:
@USC
is one of the schools connected to an alleged admissions scheme to get students into top universities. Fifty people, including parents and university employees, have been charged, and USC has fired two people in its athletic department as a result of the charges.

A colleague has a 4 y/o who is intubated due to COVID and asked us, a group of physician friends, how to tell the 6 y/o their sibling may not come home. This is what happens when you leave masks up to parent choice - this child wore TWO masks, other kids didn’t.
Keith Self told my students in February he would not back McCarthy, and was a Jim Jordan guy. Couldn’t have provided a better lesson for them, making headlines now for flipping.
My daughter is almost 10 months and starting to wean. But my breast milk protects her from COVID because I'm vaccinated.
Here's a thread about my journey.
There’s a LOT to be anxious about. But the future of journalism is so bright.
Here is a ~thread~ about the resilience of the
@USCAnnenberg
student journalists we work with at
@AnnenbergMedia
.
When I left the
@latimes
newsroom in July 2018 and joined
@USCAnnenberg
to teach journalism, I nabbed this sign, and it was the first thing I hung on my wall when I arrived. Here's a ~thread~ explaining why I support
@latguild
.
I’m: • a woman who worked in DC
• the daughter of a single mom
• the mom of a daughter I want to experience a fair society
• a teacher in a majority-female journalism school shaping the future
Just some of the reasons I’ve been a supporter of
@19thnews
from the get-go. ~🧵~
That’s the first time I’ve ever said those words publicly about my dad, and I thought about deleting them multiple times before I hit “tweet.” I put it out there because I am proud of who I am and my mom supported us and always did the jobs of two parents.
With our students preparing to graduate Friday there’s a lot of talk about pay right out of school.
Recently found my first W2 out of college (2001) — a journalism job based in San Jose. This was solid pay at the time.
Some of our students are being offered less now!
Preview for my next political reporting class in my comments awarding
@NC5PhilWilliams
the
@TonerProgram
Prize - I will indeed be using his reports to teach what’s possible.
Polk County chairman Sean Bagniewski says in introducing
@CoryBooker
, “He is one of the brightest lights in our Democratic Party right now.”
(Yes that’s Booker peeking through the window)
I am saying farewell to this place, just shy of my three-year anniversary. I don’t officially leave the

until Aug. 3, but I won’t be moving to El Segundo.
“Issenberg leaves us with a valuable lesson: We must pick our battles wisely, for they dictate not just our rights, but also the limits of our political imagination.”

The best journalism takes courage. Imagine how courageous a college student would need to be to look closely at one's own university, the largest private employer in the second largest city in America.
We are thrilled to announce that
@cbellantoni
, USC Professor of Professional Practice & Director of

There are so many things to say about Sen. McCain. What I want to thank him for is for always being a defender of a strong and free press, even when he vehemently disagreed with the organization or person.
Incredible detail on Rep. Hunter's alleged campaign finance violations. The
@sdut
first noticed questionable spending two years ago. Local journalism matters!
Fun fact I taught in my presidential campaign reporting class today: The first three early states have a combined population that is less than the population of Los Angeles County. Two weeks to Super Tuesday!
Thanks from the bottom of my heart to
@RonanFarrow
for inspiring our 20 journalism students in the audience tonight for
@latimes
event. You help remind us why what we do is important.
Reminder of how every vote counts in these tiny margins in competitive House races.

This entire sentence from NBC alert would have been indecipherable when I started my journalism career in 1998.
“Twitter on Friday permanently suspended President Donald Trump's account, citing his recent comments ahead of a mob of his supporters that stormed the Capitol.”
Here’s my favorite thing
@RonanFarrow
said tonight about journalism:
“It’s the only constitutionally protected profession and we all have to fight to protect it.”
Indeed!

@latguild
13/ My message to my former masthead colleagues: Please get a fair contract done for the
@latimes
newsroom, and soon.
Do it for them, but also do it to show these incredible students from the next generation of journalists that this is a career path we value.
Thank you.
