If Rittenhouse is acquitted (and I think he will be), the correct lesson to draw will be that self-defense is an absolute right that applies even to those who make disastrous and imprudent decisions. And prudence is a virtue Rittenhouse, like most 17-year-olds, had not developed

The material is highly emotional, and in languages I speak imperfectly (Arabic) and barely at all (Hebrew). Of course the main language was violence and fear, and these need no translation. Anyway, bits of material have since been released, including one I described.

88¢ in Germany for a COVID test. 1. Why no tests like this in the US? 2. Could we redirect (say) 50% of the fury over masking toward fury over lack of tests? 3. Surely we'd find a way to politicize the hell out of the latter issue, too. What would that politicization look like?

@bgurley Prices for AG tests in Germany dropped to €.75 each at the supermarket Lidl. It’s fast, easy — and cheap to test every day. #HealthForAll

The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced tomorrow. Last year in @TheAtlantic , I had a suggestion for a winner: How about nobody? Three cheers for peace, but zero for the Peace Prize, which should be put on indefinite hiatus.

It is possible to have deranged views like these, and be brilliant in other domains—e. g., condensed-matter physics, horse-racing, or macramé. It’s not possible to have these particular deranged views, and be taken seriously on questions of politics, justice, or morality.

New me: How did Somaliland succeed? By building a democracy that looks nothing like ours, and without anybody else's "help." A dispatch from the unrecognized country's elections this past May/June
