Gila monsters can't get sufficient water from their prey like some critters do, they need standing sources of water like this catchment. Once they find water, they're able to fill their bladder that stores the water, allowing them to access it later when needed. How cool is that?

How do you get an elk out of a canal? Very carefully! 😆 A Wellton, AZ farmer called AZGFD’s Region 4 ( #Yuma ) office on Tuesday to report an elk stuck in a nearby canal.

Forget groundhogs, we've got desert tortoises! When the weather warms up, our tortoises take a little break from their brumation to pop out of their burrow & get some sun. They soon go back in, but it means temps are rising and spring is on the way! It's #GroundhogDay , AZ-style!

Did you know that Gila Monsters can store water in their tails for use later if water gets scarce? They have bladders, too, but instead of holding waste, the bladders hold water and, in times of #drought , their bodies are able to access the bladder for hydration!

🚰 How much #water did you drink today? A bighorn ram can go a week without drinking water, but when it finds some, it may drink up to four gallons at one time! That's the equivalent of drinking 64 8-oz glasses of water 🤯 Even when we do get rain, there's not always...🧵👇

🌵 We're doubling down on this week's #WildlifeWednesday with 2 crested caracaras on top of a rare crested saguaro! Our amazing photog, George Andrejko, captured this unique photo - only about 1 in 200,000 saguaro cacti grow a crest formation beginning at about 60 - 80 years old.
