The first thing to point out is that this deal makes no financial sense for Elon Musk. He's paying a premium for the stock, the total value of the acquisition is almost a fifth of his net worth, and there's no obvious way he's going to squeeze more money out of Twitter operations

The essence of the Met Gala is that ultra-rich people pay huge sums to meet and be photographed with celebrities ... and then deduct their night out from their taxes. Why has no one pointed out that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez wore a "tax the rich" dress *to a tax shelter*?

What's particularly appalling is that so much of this discourse is being driven by children of the professional class who clearly have no grasp of what it means to pour years, decades, or even generations into building up some unglamorous small business that's rooted to one spot

Lessons for the GOP: 1) Trump doesn't care about winning elections, except his. 2) He prefers bad candidates who appease him to good candidates who acknowledge he lost in 2020. 3) His brand helps in primaries and hurts in generals 4) He'll keep doing this until forcibly stopped.

Trump is explaining that he had no idea that they disbanded the pandemic group of his national security team. This is embarrassing.

If you were interested in proving the truth of an alleged sexual felony, I can't imagine why you would prefer Senators doing the questioning over an experienced sex crimes prosecutor.

Rather than being a stepping stone to the presidency, Pete Buttigieg's time as Secretary of Transportation is looking more and more like the millstone that will finally drown his ambitions to higher office.

I asked Sec. Buttigieg why it took him almost 3 weeks to come and speak to residents of East Palestine. His press Secretary then told me I was aggressive for trying to ask questions on camera:

Why do I encounter so *many* folks who tell me they refuse to get vaccinated because the vaccines are brand new and haven't been adequately tested (and besides covid is just the flu)...then talk up equally novel monoclonal antibody treatments as a miracle cure for "just the flu"?

I remain shocked by the durability of the effects of the conservative boycott on Bud Light. WSJ reports that retailers are now reallocating shelf space to other brands, which will help lock in the decline.

Roughly half our national debt accumulated under Obama. This had many causes, most notably the Great Recession, but tax cuts for big business was definitely not what drove it.

Political consultant tells Politico that to fix her sagging polls, the VP must "Allow the Kamala Harris the public fell in love with to break free". I think the problem is that the public never was in love with her. She's a well-networked resume, not a charismatic fan favorite.

We apologize deeply for the email that was sent today. $14.92 was our average donation amount this week. It was an oversight on our part to not make the connection to a year of colonization, conquest, and genocide for Indigenous people, especially before Thanksgiving.

I just had a belated conversation with a third person who had deeper firsthand knowledge of L'Affaire Chik-Fil-A than simply "Adam told them after it happened". I now consider the veracity of the incident to be settled beyond reasonable dispute. He is owed an apology.

Looking at abortion opinion, it's actually quite striking how little men and women differ on this question. The whole pro-life is about men telling women what to do with their bodies" schtick simply isn't grounded in reality.

It's emotionally satisfying for Trump's political opponents to see him teeter on the edge of insolvency, but this prosecution looks political and abusive, undercuts legitimacy of other prosecutions for more serious crimes, and gives him incentive to cling to office no matter what

Just a thought, instead of yelling at companies for coping with inflation by shrinking portions instead of raising prices, what if you hadn’t touched off a massive inflation with an unnecessary relief bill, passed as vaccines were already ending the pandemic?

While you were Super Bowl shopping, did you notice smaller-than-usual products where the price stays the same? Folks are calling it Shrinkflation and it means companies are giving you less for every dollar you spend. I’m calling on the big consumer brands to put a stop to it.

I keep thinking of weird side effects of Coronavirus. LIke: with all this canceled travel, it will effectively reset a lot of frequent flyer programs, as the higher tier elites are unable to rack up enough miles to requalify.

It looks like NASCAR overreacted, but on the other hand, if all "overreactions" consisted of communities coming together to walk in solidarity for tolerance and unity, "overreaction" would be a positive instead of a negative.
