🧵I am proud of the tremendous accomplishments of the Biden-Harris Administration and the White House Domestic Policy Council, which I’ve been privileged to lead for the last 2.5 years. We’ve gotten a lot done. Let’s start with health care:
Tomorrow marks one year since
@POTUS
and
@VP
took office. In honor of that milestone, I wanted to look back at 12 remarkable accomplishments
@POTUS
has achieved in the past 12 months. Buckle up!
Starting today and running through May 15, 2021, we are opening for all Americans to have the opportunity to sign up for health insurance. If you already have coverage, then help your family and friends sign up and enroll.
Today marks the anniversary of FDR’s first activation of the Tuskegee Airmen in 1941. I am proud to be the daughter of a Tuskegee Airman. This all-Black unit represented the best of America.
I am deeply grateful to
@potus
for trusting and empowering me to serve as his Domestic Policy Advisor. I love the team @ DPC and in the
@WhiteHouse
. There are no more dedicated public servants. I am so proud of all we have been able to accomplish together for the American people.
During the pandemic,
@USPS
employees have been on the frontlines delivering for Americans.
I was honored to swear in
@AmberMcReynolds
, Anton Hajjar & Ron Stroman as members of the Postal Service Board of Governors. I know they’ll get right to work building USPS for the future.
Thirty-one years ago today, President George H.W. Bush signed the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act into law.
He declared on that day, “Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down.”
I applaud Dr. Rachel Levine, who today made history as the first openly transgender American to bravely sit for Senate confirmation. She will fight to ensure every person can access health care that meets their needs.
The steps announced this week by
@POTUS
to address gun violence make us all safer. His budget proposal today continues this effort, allocating billions to protect our communities, including $200M to support proven community violence interventions:
Ignore the noise on TV: The U.S. CAN have an orderly, secure, and well-managed border—and still treat people fairly and humanely.
Today, we’re releasing a blueprint showing how we’re cleaning up the cruel and reckless policies of the past four years and fixing a broken system.
FEB VACCINATION RATES: 13% of Black adults, 11% of Latino adults, 22% of white adults
SEPT VACCINATION RATES: 70% of Black adults, 73% of Latino adults, 71% of white adults
@POTUS
’ strategy has helped us close the vaccine equity gap.
Today,
@POTUS
signed a new Executive Order with the goal of increasing the number of background checks conducted before gun sales, moving us as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation. 1/5
Our team did all that extraordinary work under very tough circumstances—often masked, sometimes caring for sick family members. I’m grateful to everyone at DPC and the
@WhiteHouse
who delivered for the American people this past year. Can’t wait to see what we get done in 2022.
The price of meat at the grocery store is way up, and farmers aren’t earning more—but a handful of big meat processors are raking in record profits.
That’s not OK, which is why
@POTUS
is fighting to promote more competition in the industry.
Two great presidents. Two great bosses. Thirty-one million Americans covered under the
#ACA
.
If you’re not one of them yet, visit by August 15th to sign up for health insurance.
Great news folks: we hit record-high health care enrollment. 31 million people now have coverage through the Affordable Care Act. Couldn’t think of a better person to celebrate this milestone with than President Obama, so I gave him a call.
My daughter and I are huge fans of
@allysonfelix
. So when she visited the
@WhiteHouse
today to talk to
@VP
about maternal health, I had to sprint over to say hello.
Thank you for being such a fierce advocate for Black moms!
2. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, we reopened 95% of schools and helped schools address the pandemic’s impact on students’ learning and mental health
At the end of the previous Administration, only 7,000 borrowers had been approved for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Since Oct. 2021,
@usedgov
has approved $42B in PSLF for more than 615,000 borrowers—and we’re making it easier than ever to apply:
Important meeting today with gun violence prevention advocacy groups
@bradybuzz
,
@Everytown
,
@GiffordsCourage

@MomsDemand
. Looking forward to working together to advance commonsense solutions to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer.
In the wake of the abhorrent attacks on Uvalde and Buffalo, we are mobilizing the full resources of the federal government to help these shattered communities recover.
See below for victim services, mental health support, food assistance, and more:
Thank you
@fred_guttenberg
and all the Parkland families for sharing your stories, your heroic activism, and relentless commitment to making our schools and communities safer. You will have a partner in the Biden Administration.
I want to thank the
@WhiteHouse
for coordinating with me to talk with the Parkland families this afternoon with
@AmbRice46
,
@RepRichmond
, @
@StefFeldman
. We discussed February 14th & the work we are all doing. I am very thankful for the White House commitment to our families.

@POTUS
is announcing initial steps to
#EndGunViolence
. We will:
✅Curb "ghost guns"

Whether we were tackling Ebola, Zika, or COVID, I’m grateful to have worked so closely with him over the years. America is far safer and healthier because of Tony.
Passing the infrastructure bill was a historic bipartisan accomplishment. Now, we’ve got to get to work implementing it with speed and discipline.
I brought together my Cabinet this afternoon to discuss how we’ll get it done.
I
#WearOrange
in honor of Hadiya Pendleton and all the lives we’ve lost to gun violence—and in strong support of the courageous survivors demanding action. As
@POTUS
asked last night, how much more carnage are we willing to accept?
.
@SteveKerr
is not only one of the best shooters and coaches of all time, he's also a passionate advocate for gun safety. We’re lucky to have him in this fight and honored that he spent some time talking about the issue today at the White House.
This morning, I swore in Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transportation.
@SecretaryPete
is a true problem-solver. He will bring people together to strengthen our nation’s infrastructure. And he will keep breaking boundaries while he’s at it. Congratulations, Mr. Secretary.
This week we honor all those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence. The Biden Administration is committed to taking commonsense measures to tackle gun violence and delivering on the President's ambitious commitments to make our communities safer.
#GVSurvivorsWeek
Since his first day in office,
@POTUS
has pursued a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all, including people of color and others who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality.
Congratulations to Neera Tanden, the President's choice to serve as the Domestic Policy Advisor & lead the incredible team at the Domestic Policy Council. I'm confident this group will continue firing on all cylinders to keep getting stuff done on behalf of the American people.
🎓DC is providing summer learning programs.
🎓Arkansas is developing a tutoring corps.
🎓South Dakota is investing in school nurses and counselors.
The
#AmericanRescuePlan
is helping students make up for lost time and get back to school safely.
Child care is personal to me — that’s why I’ve put it front and center in my Build Back Better Agenda. I’m committed to investing in American families with the expanded Child Tax Credit, universal preschool, and affordable, high-quality child care for all.
Fifty years ago, my mother, Lois Rice, helped create the Pell Grants that have enabled over 81M Americans to access higher education. I’m deeply proud of her.
I’m grateful
@POTUS
has strengthened Pell further, securing a $400 increase and working to double the max Pell Grant.
For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We’re overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents! The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can’t wait to share more soon.
The Biden-Harris administration is committed to countering the rising scourge of anti-Semitism in the U.S. That’s why we are generating a national strategy to address the threat. 1/2
Twenty-three years ago, Matthew Shepard was found tied to a fence—brutally beaten simply for who he was.
His horrific death reminds us of all that has been lost and won in the battle for equality, and spurs us to combat homophobia and hate.
Thanks
@ChrisMurphyCT
. I really appreciated the opportunity to discuss gun violence and community safety with you. I am grateful for your long time leadership and look forward to moving this agenda forward in partnership with you.
I had a great conversation today with Susan Rice and her team regarding President Biden's commitment to addressing gun violence and passing a universal background checks bill. I'm ready to get to work.
Our nation's mental health crisis is hitting young people hard. Today, as part of
@POTUS
’ national strategy to transform mental health, we're:
✅Announcing nearly $300M to expand mental health in schools
✅Highlighting how governors can invest more in student mental health
Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents. We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family.
Our hearts ache for the selfless service members and Afghans killed in today’s heinous terrorist attack in Kabul. My prayers are with the victims’ families and loved ones as they endure this unimaginable loss.
As a native Washingtonian, I am proud of this administration’s support for
#DCStatehood
. The people of DC deserve full rights and representation in Congress. HR 51, the Washington DC Admissions Act, makes that possible.
Two years ago today, I returned to the WH in a completely new role, eager to take on domestic policy challenges but mindful that I had a lot to learn. I'm grateful to the extraordinary team at DPC who have accomplished so much and taught me a great deal. 🧵
Today, I’m thinking of Wanda Cooper-Jones, Ahmaud Arbery’s mother, and the unending pain of a son’s death. We must keep fighting—every day—for justice for all. No one should fear for their life when they go for a run.
I so admired Harry Reid. He was both tough and kind. He cared deeply for family and country. He was good to me and my family. A great leader and fighter, he was critical to President Obama’s many successes. We will truly miss him. Rest in Power, Mr. Leader.
Today, as we mourn with the Parkland community, we also mourn for all who have lost loved ones to gun violence. This growing crisis continues to disproportionately impact our cities' and especially our Black and Brown communities.
YES!!! The Inflation Reduction Act has been a long time coming. It will lower costs for families, lower the deficit, and help tackle some of our nation’s greatest challenges. This is very good day for America.
My great-grandfather was born into slavery and fought for his freedom with the Union Army.
My daughter will see four women on the Supreme Court—including a Black woman like her.
This is the promise of America at its best.
President Biden believes health care is a right, not a privilege, and will do everything in his power to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care - especially in the midst of a pandemic.
Today, we released the first-ever U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. It is the most comprehensive and ambitious government strategy to counter antisemitism in American history.
As
@POTUS
has said, transgender rights are one of the civil rights issue of our time. I’m proud to see
@HUDgov
putting these values into action today by ensuring that every American can access safe shelter without fear of discrimination.
.
@POTUS
knows that HBCUs have been critical to strengthening our nation and creating opportunity for Black Americans in the face of discrimination.
Check out all the ways the Biden-Harris Administration has and will continue to invest in HBCUs:
Profoundly saddened by the passing of General Colin Powell—a pioneering military and national security leader, and a trusted friend and mentor.
I will miss him deeply and cherish his many kindnesses. My prayers are with Alma and the entire Powell family.
Great meeting today, organized by
@AMarch4OurLives
, with inspiring youth community leaders addressing the violence affecting Americans, especially Black & Latino young people. I look forward to working with them to make our communities safer & more equitable.
Congratulations to the trailblazing
@HHS_ASH
Admiral Rachel Levine on being named one of
@USATODAY
’s Women of the Year. Your leadership during this pandemic has been vital.
#OTD
101 years ago, the
#19thAmendment
was ratified and women gained the right to vote.
A century later, the fight to protect and expand that sacred right goes on. If you’re not registered, sign up at to continue what our ancestors started.
We owe so much to the men and women of the Capitol Police, who each day put their lives on the line to keep us safe. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Officer Evans, and pray for the officer injured during today’s events.
#HR8
(the Bipartisan Background Checks Act) and
#HR1446
(the Enhanced Background Checks Act) close dangerous loopholes, save lives, and make us all safer. These commonsense measures are long overdue. Passage in the House is an enormous first step. It’s time to
#EndGunViolence
.
The American Rescue Plan helps meet the most urgent needs of the nation. It will help vaccinate even more Americans, safely reopen schools, and cut child poverty in half. Today, with its passage in the Senate, we are one step closer to delivering relief to the American people.
When I was elected, I said we were going to get the government out of the business of battling on Twitter and back into the business of delivering for the American people.
Passing the American Rescue Plan will do that.
In an ABC News exclusive, former President Obama comes out strongly in favor of his former VP’s $3.5 trillion social safety net budget plan.
“I think President Biden is handling it exactly right,” Obama adds.
The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act:
🗳️Would restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act
🗳️Stops voter discrimination before it starts
🗳️Keeps elections fair
🗳️Honors the legacy of the great John Lewis
🗳️Has bipartisan public support
The Senate should get this done.
Deb Haaland continues to make history, becoming the first-ever Native American to lead a Cabinet agency. At
@Interior
, she is charged with stewarding our public lands and honoring our nation-to-nation relationship with Tribes. I look forward to working with her.
This
#LaborDay
, I’m grateful to all those like my grandparents—a janitor and a maid—whose dignity, determination, and hard work opened doors and made a better future for their children possible.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Vernon Jordan, a lifelong fighter for justice and a dear friend of my late mother’s. His talent and charm were legendary. I will miss him mightily.
Two in three women, and especially women of color, are breadwinners for their family, while shouldering more care responsibilities at home. 28 years since the passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act, it’s time to pay people to care for their families when they need it.
Got to thank the men & women coordinating safe placement of unaccompanied minors arriving at our border. March 28 saw 4,078 children in CBP holding >72 hrs. Now? ZERO. Challenges remain, but this team is handling its business!

“If you had told us a year ago that there was going to be a bill this fall that would have an extension of the child tax credit, big funding for child care, pre-K, health care, et cetera, I would have said, ‘In your dreams.’”
BREAKING: The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell to a fresh pandemic low last week, another sign the job market is healing. Jobless claims dropped by 14,000 to 269,000 last week.
