i constantly notice how everyone in crypto wonders, why did ethereum community choose rollups over sharding or solana-style vertical scaling? i tried to answer all these questions in my new article. no abstract phrases, only numbers and facts @viamirror

@ChrisBlec it's substitution of concepts. in the video you pinned vitalik says that today most of rollups have backdoors that act as kind of training wheels for them. vitalik does NOT state that these backdoors are not temporary, in comparison with what you declare in your post.

so ethereum network can handle 190 TPS TODAY. without blobs or external DA thousands of nodes on raspberry pis and similar weak computers are still alive and well while verifying all these txs in real time the future of scaling

@bkiepuszewski it could just be me but it always seemed to me that many of those L2s aren't quite aligned to the ethereum goal, they're using whatever is hyped now without really caring about the tech external DA allows them to promote the project as a cheap ethereum L2 while it's barely an L2

How has it become normal and tolerated by the community to call an optimistic rollup with no fraud proofs "L2" and "mainnet"? Hey anon, a recipe for success: - Make a fork of Polygon PoS - Launch it on mainnet - Call it "The first EVM ZK rollup live! (ZK proofs disabled yet)"

@QwQiao this is because the ultimate goal of ethereum is not to make price go up but to change the world you won't make it with "fastest cheapest chain" narrative, it's not such a trivial task

@alexanderchopan we were researching this with @doganeth_en from clave email recovery is absolutely possible but it requires DNS oracles, since most email providers don't use DNSSEC. DNS oracles are complicated to implement in trustless/trust-minimised way

@evan_van_ness i think calling mantle a rollup is not very appropriate. mantle is optimistic chain with external (!!!) DA and (!!!) no fraud proofs. it even uses its own token as native currency of chain. how can we call a rollup something which isn't really better than BNB or polygon PoS?

@arixoneth 32 bytes per field element * 4096 elements per blob = 128 bytes, but as far as i understood due to KZG each field should not exceed some modulo so technically each field is slightly less than 32 bytes and thus whole blob is ~125kb

@antiprosynth approvals of a token exist on its smart contract if you have approvals of 100 tokens, you'll have to interact with 100 smart contracts it's only possible to do in a single tx with multicalls they're only supported in AA wallets get rid of EOAs!

@drjasper_eth @EclipseFND @CelestiaOrg @arbitrum imo, we need to get used to external DA solutions anyway, because eth DA throughput will never be enough for the whole world. external DA isn't even that bad for zk L2s (validiums), because the data is basically needed for few minutes if not less optimiums should go obsolete tho

@luigidemeo not really you don't get any security *until* the batch is finalised, then it has the same security assumptions as rollups. it takes seconds to generate a zk proof to the batch, so finality can be made quick enough

@arixoneth if we take approximate space usage for zksync txs, 4844 gives us ~185 TPS with 3/6 initial blob config we can store up to ~915 KB in L1 block = ~440 zksync TPS, but this data would be expensive af because there's always huge demand for L1 blockspace

@arixoneth if we only took DAS process (which is probably not possible to separate from the whole system), i think so when we implement verkle trees and enshrine zkEVM to L1, it'll be completely possible to run a succinct node on our phones. that's basically an endgame

@icebergy_ it was abandoned in favor of rollup scaling, because it's pretty complicated technically and way less efficient than rollups community realised that even if we make sharding, shards will just be used as data storage for rollups bc latter have much more throughput
