At Letterboxd, I made a list of film adaptations of books published by
@Dalkey_Archive
, as well as some similar adaptations. Check it out and do let me know if I'm missing anything:

I remain baffled as to why anyone takes Sullivan seriously. He's been wrong about every important issue for over two decades now. Plus he's a mediocre writer.
I finally compiled a glossary of Mutant slang from BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. Clip it and keep it in your purse/wallet for your next visit to 1980s Gotham City.
My cat is psyched about the new issue of
@Hopkins_Review
! I told her I have a story in it ("The Worst Thing in the World") and she said that's great, congratulations, but first she wants to sit on it.
I keep wondering whether Jordan Peele's NOPE wasn't partially inspired by the Three Investigators novel THE MYSTERY OF THE BLAZING CLIFFS (1981, written by Mary Virginia Carey), which involves a UFO landing at a horse ranch in a valley outside Hollywood.
Barry N. Malzberg is one of the finest writers of the 20th century, as well as a wonderfully charming individual. I can't wait to listen to this. (Thank you for doing it, Alec!)
I have often thought that Roger Corman is the most important figure in US filn history, and no I am not kidding. His influence is incalculable, on top of which he made a lot of terrific films. R.I.P. to a true master.
Since Trader Joe's is trending (due to the passing of its founder, Joe Coulombe—RIP), I feel obliged to remind you that Philip K. Dick was a fan of the chain, which he singled out for praise in A SCANNER DARKLY.
Five years ago, I started writing a book on Star Wars and geek culture. Today, it is finally available! Thanks to everyone who helped me along the wayI hope it was worth the wait :)
I'm happy to announce I'll have a story in

—thirteen short stories, in fact! They're called "Thirteen Short Tales about Monsters," and you can pre-order the issue, "Grendel's Kin," here:

There's a long tradition in Marvel Comics of Stan Lee and Marvel itself, with all of its writers and artists, existing within the Marvel Universe. They publish comics about the (real life) superheroes all around them.
For St. Patrick's Day, here's a definitive ranking of the first six Leprechaun films:
Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)
Leprechaun 2 (1994)
Leprechaun 3 (1995)
Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997)
Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (2003)
Leprechaun (1993)
I saw THE RISE OF SKYWALKER and think the film will evoke a lot of memories for anyone who's ever been in a writing workshop. The movie is clearly the product of endless fussing: adding characters, rearranging scenes.

It's worth remembering that Varda directed de Niro in a cameo appearance in her 1995 film ONE HUNDRED AND ONE NIGHTS, where he spoke wonderfully awful French.
FYI, the e-book version of CINEMAPS is on sale all this month—only $2.99 through the end of August! Enjoy beautiful art by

This week the incredible

Some things that have worked for me: Practice, practice, practice. Don't read pieces that don't work when read aloud, and don't wear out your welcome. Have some fun, and try and be a friendly human being. Be grateful that people are paying you any attention at all.

I am going to say something very controversial, but the proper way to drink anything is to freeze it, then suspend the frozen cube above your head, and let it melt and slowly drip into your mouth.

In my experience, too many workshops just assume that everyone there knows how to workshop, right from the start. When in fact I think that successful workshopping is a skill that has to be taught.

North by Nothwest was absolutely proto-Bond, but Eva Marie Saint played the spy in it. Ergo she is the best James Bond and Cary Grant is the best Bond Girl.
One of my little hobbies is trying to get more people to listen to the Stranglers' 1981 album THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE MENINBLACK, which is in fact about aliens and the Men in Black. It's also about doing a lot of heroin and then sitting down with musical instruments.
Thirty years ago, New Line Cinema released a small indie movie called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. How well does that film hold up? Thanks to the Picture's Up Podcast for having me on to talk about that and more:
Such sad news. René Auberjonois was one of the very best. From his Altman films to his brilliant turn as Odo on Deep Space 9, from voicing the manic chef in The Little Mermaid to so much more, he was simply marvelous, and made every project better. I will miss him. RIP.
It is with deep sadness that we share the loss of another one of our
#DS9
family.
@reneauberjonois
will be remembered for his depth of performance and many contributions to our entertainment community. We are sending all of our love & thanks to his family & friends at this time.
