So a few weeks ago, a copperhead in my backyard bit my son in the ankle. We subsequently spent 48 hrs. in the hospital, and he received eight vials of antivenom. The combined bill? Nearly $275,000. Graciously "discounted" to about $140,000. The US health-care system is broken.

Conservatives should be dismayed by pro-life's dismal ballot performance, but not surprised. What do you expect to happen after the Right leans hard into the rhetoric of individual autonomy for years? Ppl have now been programmed to pull the lever for more "rights" every time.

Why is it that Paul could tell the Athenians that they were groping toward the true God, even in their idolatry? Why is it that he could tell the Romans that "what can be known of God is plain" to the pagans? Is the same true today? Most evangelicals don't have a good answer.

Brad Littlejohn’s short book The Two Kingdoms: A Guide for the Perplexed (only $4 on Kindle right now) is short, good, and clarifying. It steers a middle course between the Radical Two Kingdom view (which doesn’t think distinctively Christian beliefs...

When did natural law turn into natural rights? And is that a problem? Join me next term for a deep dive into the formative texts of modern politics: Althusius, Suarez, Grotius, Spinoza, Pufendorf, Thomasius, Vattel, and James Wilson. Minds will be blown.

Today, for many on the Right, these paradigmatic institutional virtues are lumped under the moniker of “the longhouse.” To bite one’s tongue, honor disagreement, and build consensus, are taken to be feminine traits, unfitting for the masculine warrior that our dark times demand.

@zugzwanged Alastair clearly lays out the stakes: this is not about trying to scuttle the project to recover a Christian politics, but about saving it by drawing very clear lines: we cannot be both Christian nationalists and racial nationalists at the same time.

@RedemTheTimes @OUPAcademic @mattleeanderson Note that O'Donovan himself will be writing a retrospective essay on the meaning of the work four decades on, and the volume will be available for something in the neighborhood of $20!

When it comes to education reform, combatting gender ideology, protecting unborn babies, defending religious liberty, preventing bad healthcare regulations, empowering parents on Big Tech, and much, much more, EPPC had great year in 2023. Read about it:

This is the kind of folly that happens when people get their political theology from 1980s reconstructionist paperbacks off the discount rack, and not from the Reformed tradition.

Yikes. No. This is the kind of folly that conservatives propose in the name of "the common good" that gives me the creeping fantods. This is why Kuyper's sphere sovereignty and old fashioned theonomy are so necessary. God has not established the state/power of the sword to

@DavenantInst @AdFontesJournal Such renewal is a painful process, one which forces us to face up to our own blind-spots. But this, as C.S. Lewis said, is why we read old books: to "correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period...to keep the clean sea breeze of the centuries blowing through our minds"

Amazing news here! Carl agreed to serve as a member of Davenant's Board of Advisors when I first founded it and was an invaluable source of encouragement along the way. Excited to see him stepping in to a position of more formal responsibility to guide Davenant going forward!

Whether or not you agree with John MacArthur's decision to defy CA orders and resume public worship, you should NOT agree with the grounds on which he and his elders made that decision, and called on others to join them.

Hooker offers a masterful summary of Chalcedonian Christology: “We may summarize everything antiquity has declared regarding Christian belief and in refutation of these heresies in four words: truly, perfectly, indivisibly, distinctly; the first applied to Christ being God, the

@jamesrwoodtheo1 Should pastors actually have to apologize for passing along to their congregations the best information available to them at the time and trying to make responsible decisions in light of it? If so, no wonder so many are giving up on such an impossible profession.

Yesterday, my wife and I said farewell to our beautiful home in Leesburg, VA, where we've spent the happiest two years of our life. We will miss so much and so many, but are so excited about the next adventure the Lord has in store for us in SC.

@sefkhet @2D0XPS Yeah, the last time we'd ever want to be reminded that Christ came as the Prince of Peace is when there's an actual war going on. Save the good news for later! 🤨

Turns out Edmund Burke was neither a free-market zealot nor a die-hard traditionalist. He was, rather, what conservatives should aspire anew to be: a statesman. My review of Gregory Collins's *Commerce and Manners in Edmund Burke's Political Economy*
