Equity in schools is about using whole school budgets to meet the needs of whole school populations. It isn't about restricting the SEND kids to what is in the SEND notional budget. That creates a two tier system with SEND kids equal to each other, but not their non SEND peers.
My year 6 made me scrambled eggs for breakfast whilst I sat in the sun. Then she watered the plants. Now she is teaching my youngest the Year 3 science curriculum. No way is she going back to school on Monday!!!

Sorry, but If I’m not intruding, I’d like to say that well I hope you don’t mind me mentioning it but I feel like you could have a point. But that’s just me.
I think my daughter just broke the whole school system today. She emailed her PE teacher to say she didn’t want to do a cross country race next week and her teacher told her today she didn’t have to. No parent involvement. 😲😲😲
Daughter had a detention for having semi perm blue dye in her very dark brown hair the day after Halloween and will continue to have detentions until it has washed out. What a mess schools are.
5 yr old son made me so proud this morning. Asked me if the autistic boy he really wants to come to his mini-golf birthday party can have a remote controlled golf ball so that he doesn't get upset when it doesn't go in the hole. Inclusion not competition! Even 5yr olds get this.
My 3 kids have the 3 best Headteachers at the worst time in their education. I am scared the HTs will leave their jobs and quite frankly gobsmacked that they haven't already.

ADHD is wanting help but having masked for so long you don't want people to know how far behind you are or how much of a mess you have got yourself into.

Because those without ID or prevented access to it through the cost/fees of obtaining it, are probably more likely to have more left-wing leanings. Either way, it is anti-democracy to insist that you can't vote without buying the right, through a passport fee or driving licence.
@Peston
I’m not a teacher. But this statement is grossly inaccurate & pretty nasty. Most Teachers were doing THREE full-time jobs during lockdown, teaching online, teaching in person AND writing online-adapted curriculums whilst ON TOP training themselves in tech!! You owe an apology.
For a kid in the class with slow processing speeds, reduce the volume of work you expect from them but not the level of difficulty. My kid can never make it to the challenge question which is where he excels.
Anyone else notice that single parent Dads often get a lot of help from schools and reminders, but single parent mums get reprimanded for not being organised and no extra reminders??
Is the Easter holidays only for school staff? Why has my year 10 been given phenomenal amounts of GCSE project/homework to complete? How is she supposed to do it given she’s booked on a 2 week intensive wild camp with no electronics and we’d been given no prior warning of work?
@DrSLJ
@KaraChrome
Take her out of school to go to the cinema. Ask for it to be authroised. If it is of good enough educational value for the others then......
@SwailesRuth
I don't know you well enough to feel entitled to take space on your timeline much but I'm sure there are loads like me who have you and your family in our hearts. Wishing you courage and strength. x
SEND kids are only expensive because they have to wait long and deteriorate whilst their ‘case’ tours every public service department to maximise their income from each kids needs before the kids receive anything of benefit to them.
Primary Schools KS2: 4 hours - Cover the core curriculum like this: 30 mins literacy, 30 minutes numeracy, 30 minutes putting your coat on and off, 30 mins Joe Wicks. 1 hour of cutlery instruction. You're welcome.
Since lockdown I’ve not been able to get 8yr old away from books. He is addicted. He’s each day spent hrs on them - even meal times. We hardly talk now. In the car, late into the night, books, books. He’s constantly pestering for more. This was never a problem when he was at sch.
@MikeArmiger
Yes. My Yr 6 son (ASD, ADHD, SpLD, SPD, Lang Disorder) Lead the school Orchestra on Tues Eve and played 4th verse of Silent Night completely unaccompanied in the dark to a candle processions. 2 years ago he was at the back with a Teaching Assistant sat next to him.
This. I don’t know any autism parent who grieved for a child they did not have. I know many who grieve for a life that isn’t full of the many bastards they have to meet and deal with when they have an autistic child though.
Thread. Thinking on from a previous tweet about when people say to parents of autistic children that they must grieve for the child they lost 😳 Never ever say that ✋🏻 NEVER! Parents are not grieving for a child they lost when the reality becomes that they have an autistic child!
Does anyone know any middle class SEND parents who have secured the entirety of their kid’s educational entitlement & in time to prevent damage? Because I don’t. Furthermore, more middle class parents than educational professionals help the disadvantaged parents with the system.
Six weeks of Home Education and kiddo got a grade 5 for English Lang Resit. Up from a 3 and without access to half the sources in the past papers due to copy right issues schools don't have. Unfairly disadvantaged but that is SEND and Home Education in a nutshell.

ADHD test: Do you miss deadlines?
Brain: No. I work 72 hours straight without sleep and meet them every time. How do you think I got my GCSEs having skipped most of school?

So the elderly and people with disabilities have to walk further, allow more time, work out complicated systems when they are the least able to do it? How does that meet any kind of accessibility standard?
Hey SENCOs, I appreciate the work you do in schools but please don't police parents at home. I am getting messages from distressed parents who don't like to tell the school too pee off but really should. Offer to be available, and then limit your work to those who ask for help.
Parents are making requests for diagnoses? Really? For Down Syndrome? For Hearing Impairments? For Acquired Brain Injury? For Autism? Or are they just presenting symptoms and requesting an explanation like the rest of the population does!?
Cllr Golby:
Honestly, this is almost too exhausting to pick quotes from.
"Families are swapping tips to get diagnosed on fb"
Responsing to a comment that helping "disabled children takes a village":
"It's not the Council's job to change the culture of the environment we're in"
The biggest risk to a successful Secondary transition for SEND is lack of coproduced planning with a parent and a 'we'll see how they are for ourselves and meet with you if we have any concerns' attitude. Don't expect parent help in Year 9 when the transition failure hits.

A utility bill less than 3 months is not something everyone will have. A polling card is not something everyone will necessarily get (shared living accommodation where post goes amis) Getting a loan is not a democratic right.
An EHCP is a key to the door of a dangerous Labyrinth, a journey you may or may not survive & probably won't ever take you where your child is entitled to be & for which you fought for for yrs before obtaining. What use is a golden ticket if it doesn't even open a door?
Researcher & ASD kid: 1) R: What do you worry about most in Lockdown? Kid: My mental Health. 2) R: Why are you worried about your mental health? Kid: Because the news keeps saying my mental health will get bad.

These kinds of people take their children to Stately Homes probably. Have National Trust membership and thinks clean air and trees should be only available to those who can drive and afford extortionate parking charges.
@JolyonMaugham
He deserves his homes. Football salaries might be bonkers but at least he secured his money by working for it, not being given it by his Dad, or through a dodgy un-tendered contract. It is none of anyone’s business what he does with it.
😲😲 This Ryanair plane Manchester-Stansted had one attempt at landing and is now taking those on board to Budapest where it needs to be for a 6:45am flight this morning

How convenient!!
@1goodtern
I went to a small theatre today for a very rare indoor outing. My family were the only ones in masks after nose spraying. No-one looked at us as if we were aliens but my goodness the coughing level in that unventilated place. I’ll be surprised if we don’t now have covid anyway.
There’s nothing like having your autistic son provide you with your carefully calculated chance of dying from covid and the rest of the family ranked against your chances!! 🙄🙄
Unpaid carers.... if you’re hoping to be included in priority 6 vaccination group make sure your GP Surgery know you’re a Carer. It isn’t automatically known or assumed.

She wasn't rejected for not having an enduring disability (you're right it is nonsense), she was rejected because unofficial LA policy is to find any reason however silly, to make getting an EHCP as difficult and exhausting as possible so that some drop out of the attempt.
Teachers...... please take a moment to think of some of those children with needs, whose return to school is filled with dread an adrenaline. Have you identified them? What are your plans to ensure they have a successful first day back & to head off future holiday end anxieties?
This is not fair on parents of children with SEND. This continuous asking for views, which don't change and never have. STOP asking for views and start actioning support to make the changes needed. Fund their campaigns and their legal battles and their accountability holding.

Parents trying to get ensure that resources ensure an equal education for their children w SEND are 'pushy parents' or 'agitators' taking from the system. Parents trying to get their kids into grammar schools are however, good responsible parents and their kids will be rewarded.
Youngest has a pupil passport that says ‘sit at back with a resistance band’. First day with new teacher and he reports he was sat at the front with a wobble cushion. This is NOT expensive to get right. But it is expensive to get wrong. Meeting requested, emails sent.
Hey teachers, - if a parent asks a question via email about something they are unclear about. Don't start your reply with 'As stated in a communication to parents last week.......' Either the statement wasn't as clear as you thought, or the parent didn't understand/receive it.
@AdamWagner1
Tell them to ban crisp companies from putting salt and vinegar crisps into green bags that ought to be reserved for cheese and onion. Oh, and also parking charges for NHS staff.
Anyone who thinks SEND parents are 'overanxious' or 'demanding' need to understand that we see this coming for our children every time you dismiss our concerns. And we see it acutely and correctly. You will not as by then you will have forgotten our child's name.

I have max 5 things to get done. Highlight the two most important and put all the other little things or breakdowns of the priority on a post-it. Post it goes in the bin at end of the day so I don’t have a list of failed tasks permanently in my journal.
5 year old would have come second in the sports day sprint, if he hadn't have started giggling when he saw me, decided to run in a curve or stop just before the end to savour the passing under the red finish ribbon by walking slowly looking up at it. He had the best day!!!
Pupils who live in children’s homes are less likely to attend the best schools and more likely to end up in alternative provision and special schools than their peers, Ofsted research has found
2010-2020 I supported my son through 9 educational placements and attended a century’s worth of Outcome-less meetings. I also met some incredible people not in those meetings.
Son started music theory lessons. Teacher asked him for the most important thing to meet his needs. He replied ‘to not work in pairs!’. Teacher granted. 😊 Many reasonable adjustments are simple and free.
Hey... Secondary Schools taking in year 7. Piss off with your holiday schoolwork requirements. Piss off with the guilt tripping that suggests kid needs to do it to not fall behind. I’m cross and VERY VERY upset. And I bloody hate the school we chose right now.
£7bn spent on TAs, and that money is unregulated, unaccountable as there are no professional standards of basic level of training. We need to address this says

So my son starts Year 7 tomorrow and I just found out that the uniform requires black trousers and not grey trousers (have a daughter there and the skirt is grey so I believed the trousers to be). I can't do this. I'm going to home educate. School is too hard.
Please RT as SO deserved....My son’s 8th School placement, the wonderful and Inclusive Primary, after very unique challenges, just got their Ofsted ‘Good’.

You schools that are saying you might have to turn SEND kids away because of lack of funding - you lie, - you have already been turning SEND kids away for years, - but now simply have a happy excuse that you think is palatable to the public.
Given that schools won't be anything like what Year 6's left. Why can't they just go straight into their massive, empty next KS Secondaries in June instead? Sure it will be strange, but so will year 6.
National Exclusion Day for EHCP Kids as their yr 6 peers share where they will go to Secondary School and start to mentally prepare and form bonds with others headed the same direction. Many will go through the rest of the year and SATs with excruciating anxiety about it.
@tombennett71
What conditions inspire violence? Conditions where teaching is poor, behavioural policy applied at whole school instead of individual level in a zero tolerance school perhaps?
Primary Teachers - I'm quick to be frustrated when I think teachers aren't being as 'can do' as they could be. But what is being asked of you is impossible and unfair and most certainly not evidence-based. I'm so sorry. Yours, a Parent.
What if schools were to take down their Ofsted Banners and replace them with their values? ‘Inclusive’ ‘Robot Teachers’ ‘Democratic’ ‘Cold Calling’ ‘No Uniform’ ‘Parent Engaging’ ‘Clipboard Using’. That would be more helpful to parents and their choices tbh.
Is your school being asked to demonstrate spend of £6k or pay for an Educational Psychologist before a child can be considered for an EHC Assessment? Here are are some suggestsions to help: -
@WhistleblowingT
Do the 29 other children have protected characteristics that mean in law they have an entitlement to full access to the learning and school activity and that you can be sued if they do not. Kids without SEND can learn despite poor teacher attitudes. Those with SEND cannot.
Whilst the teaching profession is demanding scientific evidence to support the return to school, can they please also demand the evidence that disadvantaged children are always safer in school than home too please.
Parents that fight for children with special needs are often labelled as
"Problem parents"
Until "professionals" step up and do the jobs they were employed to do, I'll happily be viewed as a problem parent.
Should say ‘SEND children are losing out because millions of pounds earmarked for their education has been siphoned off to prop up incompetent LAs, schools & SEND charities’.
No mention of the government's failure to cost or fund the 2014 reforms? Disabled children and their families are NOT the ones at fault here

Everyone is anti-lockdown. It's shit. That isn't the point. Lockdown is still lived. Lived differently and even with difficulty, but lived. And it is to ensure we can have a better lived experienced soon but also that others keep their lives TO live.
@JarlathOBrien
It causes incredible strain in a relationship to see your hopes and dreams and all that you have worked for, for your family, lost not because of a child with a disability who turned out to be different, but because it was beaten out of you by the brutal system and processes.
