No one has a right to demand or expect a reply. Instead of asking why not answer, we should be asking why people feel the need to harass someone.

You do realise that is the exact justification abusers have used for years to protect themselves right? “As long as it isn’t visible it isn’t assault/abuse”
Thread on Qatar and its disgusting abuses on migrants, women, and LGBT people because I'm getting a tad fed up with people defending this country and the current situation
@ysheeblack
The aggressive part to me is a bunch of people constantly ganging up on the one housemate that seems to look after and respect others in the house
I'm looking to commission some custom fashion pieces but this would be the first time I would be doing so. Does anyone know who to contact/ any art students that do commissions for nightlife/drag type pieces?

@Nigel_Farage
Not a bloke. I’m secure enough to wear whatever I like and not have it impact my sense of self. Unlike people that have to tell everyone they are a CEO of a company for example

The proof has been provided. Are you going to back down and apologise or are you going to block them and run away to your bigoted safe space.
@jonsiva_
@Delet3itfat
My life isn't dictated by someone spamming me on an app. But yes blocking is an option if someone is insufferable (though as everyone knows especially on grindr that hardly ever helps).
Why any international organisation thought it was a good idea to allow them to host anything is beyond me. Why any international representative exchanged morality for money is repugnant. 14/14
#Qatar
It's nice when your morals and your social class align because not only would I not want to visit any of these places, to begin with, I wouldn't be able to afford to anyway
Pizza has taken down Prince Andrew and now Andrew Tate. If your name is Andrew I feel like you just shouldn’t go near pizza. Oh and you should probably not be a nonce and traffic women
A lot of the outrage concerning Qatar stemmed from a 2016 guardian article that highlighted the atrocious conditions of migrant workers in the country and just how many of them have died building the infrastructure for the world cup 1/n

The only reason I'd suck at a STEM job is i'd get neck ache. All those nerds do is look down at a microscope or look up at a telescope.
I just wish someone would purity test Owen Jones as much as he does it to others because holy fuck how many more important things could he be doing for Palestinians than berating a queer artist in a sing song contest
Very disappointing.
This doesn't even address what's happening: Palestinians who suffered generations of oppression by Israel, now genocide.
Russia was rightly booted out.
Israel will use this as a PR stunt while committing genocide.
Palestinians have asked him to withdraw.
Due to the failing to report specific causes of death ‘’As such, Qatar is also failing to adhere to the procedural dimension of the right to life – the need to investigate potential cases of unlawful deprivation of life’’ 3/n
@rochellehd
The fact that from this list, it appears that this child is a happy and content person, and the father seems to connect this to being gay rings some major alarm bells.
Unfortunately for reasons only the Qatari state know, they have consistently failed to give detailed breakdown of reasons for death of migrant workers. All we know is that between 2010-19 15,021 non-Qataris have died. These numbers are disputed as being non-reliable, however 2/n
In fact, the state apparatus and security force routinely beat and sexually harass LGBT individuals in Qatar – with trans women being forced into conversion camps upon release from prison 12/n
They cannot serve in the military, cannot adopt or have children, are not protected from employment or housing discrimination, and can be punished with up to 7 years of imprisonment for non-Muslims. For Muslims the punishment is death. By stoning 10/n
So are we just all going to pretend that it's not really fucking weird that Owen Jones is nearly 40 years old and goes around conference finding teenagers and asking them questions to try and deliberately create outrage and smear them to his 1m followers
disturbing tbh
On top of a failure to report or act on these deaths appropriately, those hardest hit are unable to adequately express themselves – and the press cannot act on their behalf thanks to amendments to Article 136 which allows the... 4/n
Gonna set up a left-wing new media company who is in?
Perks include: Bragging about it on your CV when you jump ship for a spin doctor position
Going almost exclusively on right-wing media shows

Gramsci is one of the most influential and popular political thinkers of the 20th century. In what universe is he considered “low-key”

Realised a long time ago that the traffic in cities skylines isn't my fault it's the game's fault so I just use traffic light mods to help. Why does every car in the game want to travel in the same lane down a 4-lane highway?!?
Looking for flats in Edinburgh still and I’m constantly asked if I earn 30 times the monthly rent to be eligible to APPLY for the property. I’m a PhD student, I don’t earn 30 times the monthly rent of a parking space let alone an apartment.
Qatar has consistently been recommended by other states such as France, Australia, and Iceland to address its disgusting anti-LGBT laws with no action being taken 11/n
This practice of guardianship even extends to a woman's inability to say no to sexual advances from their husband – who a male guardian gave permission to marry. These women also have no control over their children or any aspect of their lives 8/n
Do we vote for the rich lawyer who is extremely toxic towards people when he doesn’t get his own way or the bratty Glaswegian who ran with a crowd of bullies for three weeks?

You better have been simping for the glorious infrastructure instead of the girl. Girls last a few moments, industrial rail lasts forever.
Wasn’t expecting to come out to my Nan on FaceTime today but I guess that’s a thing that just happened. Not her saying “I can die happy knowing you’re happy”
Qatar’s abuse of people does not stop at vulnerable migrant workers. Women in Qatar make up around 25% of the Qatari population. Women are restricted in who they can marry, where they can study, work, and travel 7/n
Poor person rant: if you want people to edit journals perhaps give them incentive to do so, perhaps in some monetary form or another, as is commonly the practice when labour is provided
Editor rant: if you're publishing academic journal articles, you should be reviewing journal articles. Otherwise, you're just freeriding. The number of times we're getting well into double figures before 2 people say yes is causing delays and hurting fellow academics' careers.
@enzoreds
I've always found that by showing excerpts from other French thinkers of his time *cough* Bourdieu *cough* people appreciate Foucault's writing a lot more
It's quite annoying when people latch on to new words they clearly don't quite understand simply because they want to sound smart. Claiming that Israel being in Eurovision is a form of pinkwashing is really focusing on the hard issues.
i love olly, i’ve followed his career for years, from tiny pub theatres to wembley stadium.
but this is just pink washing - no queer should be celebrating eurovision when Isreal are still contestants. You’re just normalising genocide.

Is the paper going to publish a full retraction for attempting to spread blatant disinformation? We both know full well that this graph was meant to trick people into thinking the opposite of what the statistics actually show
