I just don't share this instinct that she is bad. She works hard and doesn't enjoy it and doesn't feel the life she has is worth the effort expended. There are obviously steps she can take to improve but, like, that is a basically relatable and sympathetic problem? Why mock her?

I know a lotta people with Ph.D.s from like Oxbridge or the Ivies or the Sorbonne who are very intellectually insecure and it's like... buddy I literally don't think our society has a more clear way of signalling to you we think you're smart. Like, this is it. You've maxed out.

A lot of what we call imposter syndrome is just the recognition that our intellectual ambitions out run our actual capabilities. Most people this is not true of are just very boring, so it's not the worst thing in the world. But it is genuinely a reflection of real inadequacy.
