Convicted paedophile given custody of young girl and gets her pregnant - as authorities believe 'he poses low risk to kids.' This kind of custody ‘agreement’ - children being handed to abusive men - is (horrifyingly) happening a lot up and down the UK.

The Met police frequently strip-search young, black lads in police vans. I know this because they tell me. They’re told “either custody suite or back of van”and they choose the van because they’ll get away quicker. It’s humiliating for them. And illegal. But nobody seems to care.

18 calls made and ignored. More evidence that tenants and others are just ignored when complaining. But it goes further than housing. Everyone is ignored by businesses and govt agencies, departments of state (just look at prisons) and the rest. It’s cultural and prob U.K. wide.

Fingers crossed tonight for a win @BAFTA tonight with @VictoriaLIVE team. Losing a loved one to knife crime devastates families and thank you to @IntroDjLondon @NabzDeezy59 , Stanley Goupall and Russell Brown for having the courage and faith to speak.

@janeclarejones “Authentic lesbian experience.” This desperation for authenticity. Please. Stop. Everyone is NB anyway unless there’s a man/woman out there who 100% fits sexist gender stereotypes. If there is, I haven’t met them yet. As my grandmother used to say “what a total load of twaddle”.

Please watch our full report on how one young woman was bounced from place to place, miles from home, and raped and abused while in the ‘care’ of the state. Thanks to the courageous Amber for speaking out and to ‘Millie’ too. @JasonFarrellSky @LizLaneSky

@bindelj I’ve been a journalist for over 20 years and for the first sixteen of them I didn’t work for a single female editor - despite working on lots of different programmes. He’s so misguided and ill informed it’s funny (and a bit worrying).

“…officers will no longer seek…children who repeatedly disappear from care facilities if the risk of harm is considered low.” These children are never at low risk of harm and almost always being criminally/sexually exploited. Low harm? Give me a break.

I hope it is Keith Bennett. I can’t drive over (or see) Saddleworth moor without thinking of his body lying somewhere on it and I’m sure most of my generation (from Manchester area) are the same. Just wish his mum had lived to find him and a little peace.

Thriving businesses will mean higher wages? 👀 Like Uber? Or Amazon? Both thriving businesses that employ 1000’s of staff on minimum wage - some on zero hours contracts taken from agencies (another thriving business model) who offer no workers rights. Please.

So much respect for @HiboWardere for continuing to speak out about FGM. My mother worked in Egypt when I was a child and would tell me of the women she would visit who had haemorrhaged during childbirth due to this barbaric practice. Other women giving birth didn't even survive.

Croydon placing their tenants in homes unfit for human habitation. Again. And moving them when the media get involved. Again. Same as everyone else. It’s disgusting that press have to get involved or @KwajoHousing for councils to treat some tenants like humans not animals.

@MForstater “The protest…had a joyful yet pensive atmosphere that left many passersby in awe..” In awe? At the sheer magnificence of students protesting? And “joyful yet pensive”. This is a Cambridge uni magazine? I realise it’s not your point but the writing made my toes curl.

I have a young friend who arrived in UK at 12 months old. She went to nursery, primary and secondary school here. Aged 21 she was taken to Yarls Wood after serving a short prison sentence. Now, 29, she’s still fighting to stay here. Where her family live. It really is a scandal.

National scandal that UK deports people who regardless of paperwork are thoroughly British - products of British schools, British communities, British System. Time to pass #ShawAmmendment to stop the deportation of people who’ve been here since childhood (3/3)

The men that shouted will have forgotten about it five mins later. And likely done the same to another 3 teenage girls today. I can remember being 14 and wearing shorts one summer and grown men shouting at me. I can remember what they said and the realisation of how they saw me.
We live in the countryside. My 14yo daughter who loved riding her bike to feel freedom, solitude and nature, no longer wants to do it. A car load of blokes drove alongside her yelling about her 'tits and arse.' She came home crying and terrified. No more bike rides. I am irate.

Today I’ve been deluged with phone calls or messages from traumatised and angry women and girls I know who have been abused. First by men and then by the criminal justice system. It is diabolical that it’s allowed to happen. Policing and the CPS has to reform entirely. #Rochdale

Love this thread. I think tea is more than just a hot drink here too. It’s a reason to chat to a neighbour, a conversation point about how you take it, a balm for those who feel anxious or upset and a special occasion as well (eg afternoon tea at the Ritz).

In Muslim countries, tea is more than just a hot drink. It is very important to the heritage, traditions and cultures in which it originates. To start the weekend, we celebrate the art of tea, with 24 different types of tea from across the Muslim world… A thread…

“More than 1,500 UK police officers accused of violence against women in six months.” I find it quite ironic (but great) that they are now releasing data like this. If we’d asked for it they would have referred us to FOIs and then refused the information.
