@aclientfirst I'd say that quite often complex trauma has a relational cause - especially when involving long-term oppression or abuse, and where there has been abuse of power and trust. Of course it affects relationships. And it needs empowering relationships to work through it and to heal.

This time last year I was told by my lead professional "I don't know how to help you" and that "services were perpetuating my distress", then discharged whilst severely depressed, acutely suicidal, very ill from covid, and suffering withdrawals from reduction of antidepressants.

Well worth a read. I agree with it fully. Patients are seen as unreliable witnesses to their own experiences. Instead, the recorded account of the Clinician - whether factual or not - replaces the patient's narrative. Trauma and injustice are so inextricably linked.

@RITB_ My former therapist used that line a lot. "Nobody goes to work to cause harm". It used to hurt everytime she said it as it didn't match my experiences. The other was that the people that had caused me harm were "nice to her" so were apparently not capable of causing harm

Problem is, clinicians don't like the thought of harmful colleagues so instead pathologise the patient response to that bad apple.

@adamfare1996 If a patient has been harmed by MH services during a mental health crisis, it should be hardly surprising if that person then 'fails to engage' during subsequent crises. You can be desperately unwell and 'fail to engage' purely as a trauma response.

If I speak to welfare at work about my level of suicidality, they'd see me as at risk of death and urge me to get immediate help. Yet at TEWV - the very people my employer would urge me to get help from, that same level of suicidality and risk is used as reason for discharge.

All I've ever wanted was openness, honesty, & real learning. My preference has always been to achieve this privately rather than publicly, but the processes we rely on when things go wrong are often biased, deflective, and harmful, leaving little choice but to speak out publicly.

@Shrink_at_Large Agreed. Delayed help, misdiagnosis, or the wrong type of help increases chronicity, increases complexity, and increases risk. Over time, the resulting symptoms and distress become what appears to be 'normal' for the person, but can be very different to the original presentation.

@SophiePorritt Oh absolutely. Questioning whether you have been covertly given a bpd label also applies, as does feeling appropriate and proportionate anger at the treatment that results from such a label. Imagine how horrified MH professionals would be if they themselves were treated this way.

To diagnose someone with a PD, then to tell them that they haven't been diagnosed with a PD, whilst simultaneously treating them very much in accordance with a PD diagnosis is cruel, psychologically abusive, and a massive abuse of power.

I'd gone back in to services to try to heal from trauma suffered as a result of institutional negligence & systemic abuse that I'd suffered previously under TEWV. Failings that PHSO was able to clearly see but that TEWV failed to learn from - instead punishing me for complaining

But they actually discharged me at a time when I needed more help - not less. I was increasingly unwell. My family knew I was unwell. My colleagues knew I was unwell. TEWV saw my deterioration as a reason to discharge me to nothing. No other support in place or offered.

TEWV CEO apologized to me in 2016 for initial failings that caused harm. He apologized to me again in 2020 for further failings since his previous apology. But the failings since 2020 have harmed me the most I now don't access healthcare. An independent investigation is needed

When I not only failed to recover - but actually deteriorated within the same system that had harmed me - quite possibly because they still hadn't assessed/treated me for trauma, and were ignorant to the effects of neuro-covid, and SSRI medication changes, they discharged me.

@trewvs @TruthCampaigns @iopc What I find quite upsetting is that it's commonly known that TEWV has major issues and is responsible for large numbers of avoidable deaths. Yet those of us still speaking out are still ignored or disbelieved by both the Trust, and those that should be holding it to account.

I've been in a deep suicidal depression since April. I'm dreading Christmas passing as it gave me a focal point to aim for. I do know that I just don't have it in me to live another year like this. I'm staying alive for my kids, but it's not living, and I do feel ready to go.

Any patient that may have been an unwilling victim of @TEWV 's bpd+ protocol has also been a victim of epistemic injustice. I wonder how many people have been harmed or lost their lives as a result of such an outdated and negligent approach that approved by TEWV leadership.

It might be possible to move on from the harm caused by TEWV if it weren't for the fact that the lies and judgements written in my notes have redefined 'me' and influence how I'm viewed and treated by physical health medical professionals. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

@RITB_ I remember being told that I would make an excellent expert by experience - but only when I didn't have an axe to grind. Apparently "there's nothing worse" Yet, for me, I should never have had an 'axe to grind', and those are the experiences they should be listening to.

CW: suicide I have been very unwell since April last year - both mentally and physically. I have pushed through and as I got closer to Christmas, that became my target. Something to aim for. A way to keep living so that I didn't spoil Christmas for my children.
