is raising money for our friend Ahmed to leave Gaza with his family. His brother has been killed, brother-in-law killed, older brother injured, and home destroyed, all by Israel's bombardment

During the 1980s, the queen tried to stop Princess Diana's work in HIV advocacy, telling her to do something "more pleasant." But Diana ignored her, instead using her platform to tackle stigma and offer comfort to terrified people sick with what was then a terminal illness.
If I was Rishi Sunak – married to a woman wealthier than the queen – I would probably enjoy a life of pure leisure. Instead, he's chosen to spend his life harming people far less fortunate than himself. What sort of person does that?
Putting the French flag on aid drops is just disgusting. You want to do your nation proud? Sail the French navy directly into Gaza with medical facilities and vast quantities of aid, and dare the Israelis to return fire. Otherwise this is nothing but a spectacle.
The BBC should now do 11-days of nonstop documentaries and features on republicanism, the crimes of the British empire,the dangers of unaccountable elites, and working-class history. For balance.
Israeli media reported that former British PM Tony Blair is leading an Israeli initiative seeking to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to other countries as part of an ethnic cleansing plan.
I’ve very much enjoyed people getting upset that there’s a separate fast line for MPs, Lords and their guests to see the queen lying-in-state — as being “deeply unfair” and treating “some people as better than others” — while waiting to view… a “queen.”
@PhilipProudfoot
Why don’t they go fish in the sea? Eating sea food is halal. Why aren’t they doing things for themselves? We come in here to see our money being wasted by people who would rather sit and complain than be proactive about their children starving.
This is insane. No Arabic speaker could possibly have gotten confused here — the meaning isn’t even close, the words are not close. There is no excuse. This seems deliberate
@BBCBreaking
A released Palestinian prisoner says in Arabic that Israel held them in the cold w/o electricity, "sprayed us w/ pepper spray" & "left us to die."
She never mentioned Hamas or a word like it. Yet
@BBC
translated to: "No one helped us. Only Hamas cared...We love them very much."
Standing over a landscape likely still littered with the bodies of slaughtered Palestinian men, women, and children — and declaring that you did this in “the name of love” is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most disgusting things I’ve seen in my life.
Isn’t it funny that “South Africa” is the most trending term on Twitter, yet you’d struggle to find a single article about the International Court of Justice case on BBC News.
And by funny … I mean extremely disturbing.
I’ve just seen a video of injuries resulting from a “small bomb” dropped on the car park of the Al-Shifa hospital.
The footage of an aftermath of a “small” IDF strike, maiming those in the vicinity of a hospital, will live with me forever.
A man loses his leg, screaming in…
Israel has killed over 150 UNRWA staff — the highest number of UN deaths in the organisations history — yet a few unfounded allegations from Israel are enough for US and Britain to cuts its funding.
The world sees your hypocrisy. And this will have far reaching consequences.
The response to the ICJ should have been sanctions on Israel. Instead, Western donor countries have placed sanctions on Palestinians
Genuinely, I think this one of the darkest moments in the history of humanitarianism. This will have Rwanda-level implications for the aid world.
The following 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 have suspended Unrwa funding based on Israeli claims that 12 of the agency's 30,000 employees took part in Hamas attacks:
🇺🇸 US
🇨🇦 Canada
🇬🇧 UK
🇫🇮 Finland
🇦🇺 Australia
🇮🇹 Italy
🇳🇱 Netherlands
🇳🇴 Norway and 🇮🇪 Ireland said they would…
According to estimations from the Norwegian Refugee Council, clearing the rubble alone will take one year
Anyone who entertains the idea that this isn't one of the worst violations of the Geneva Convention in modern history is a liar, a fool, or both

I’m saying this 3x because their coverage is exceptional, their interviewees are top class, their access is above and beyond any random posh Brit pondering the Middle East on the basis of *zero* knowledge.

Israel which is 60% desert used to face serious water shortages.
Thanks to advanced solutions like advanced filtration and drip irrigation, today Israel is a water powerhouse.

@RishiSunak
The Iranians have been clear that they expected condemnation of Israel’s attack on their consulate in a sovereign nation. This escalation would have not been likely had you simply upheld the basic principles of international law.
Your letter, or course, fails to mention this.
Israel is now facing a case in both the ICJ and the ICC. I hope more nations stand up and demand that international law be truly universally applicable.
BREAKING 🇲🇽-🇵🇸-🇨🇱 The Mexican and Chilean governments have filed a joint request to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people.
This was at a time of widespread homophobia and demonisation, in no sense whatsoever was she aligning herself with a “trendy cause.”
Diana was a hero. And even this republican respects that.
As regional war looks likely, remember at every step Western leaders were warned to de-escalate but instead they permitted genocidal violence for 6-months against Palestinians and then said *nothing* when Israel attacked an Iranian consulate in a sovereign nation.
The Roman occupation army *was* diverse. It was made up of soldiers from the entirety of the empire. As well as Africans, this included lots of Arabs as well, to the extent that there's a fort – literally named Arbeia – which was entirely occupied by Mesopotamians.
BBC’s children show “Horrible Histories” has released a song called “Been Here From The Start” which is about black people always being in Britain.
BBC is rewriting history by teaching children that the original Britons were black.
If you think the army that has killed over 13,000 children are the good guys, and the United Nations are the bad guys…then there’s a good chance you might have gone quite mad.
Aaron Bushnell very clearly told the world why he did what he did: he will not be complicit in genocide.
Journalist who now remove those final words and replace them with “mentally ill” need to consider whether they are, themselves, actually “sane”
Every single person needs to be on the streets of London, March 9th.
We cannot allow them to take away our right to protest. We cannot allow them to paint a movement demanding a ceasefire as “extremist”
This must be the biggest demonstration in history.
Here is Ursula Von Der Leyen posing for a picture with a man whose expressions of genocidal intent were just read out in the ICJ ruling. Any comment
@vonderleyen

Britain: you have to pay for an already very rich family’s funeral, and you also have to pay for a make-believe-fantasy-thing called a “coronation.” You also have to subsidise this family for the rest of their lives. If you protest this, you’re getting arrested.
The second Nakba, recorded on video, for the entire world to see.
Shame on every apologist.
Let there one day be justice with lengthy prison sentences for all those who aided and encouraged a most monumental crime.
The level of disrespect shown to Palestinian MP Mustafa Barghouti here is beyond shocking, including an anti-Arab trope framing his struggle to explain even basic context to Julia Hartley-Brewer as driven by … misogyny.
🚨 BREAKING: Labour has endorsed the Conservative Party's plans to restrict pro-Palestine protests.
Rishi Sunak has called for a more robust police response to pro-Palestine protest. The BBC reports that Labour believes "the proposals are sensible".
Do not vote, ever again, for an MP who rejects a ceasefire tomorrow. Actively campaign against them.
We must never allow individuals into power who can so easily support genocidal violence.
This feels like the end of the United Nations and any lingering respect left for multilateral institutions. The United States — vetoing a ceasefire — has revealed, again, that the UN is completely powerless to prevent genocide.
I keep thinking of the fact Palestinian Poet, Refaat Alareer, told us he was likely to be killed by Israel and had received threats telling him this. And then he was murdered. That was on 6 December — 117 days ago. The targeted assassination of a poet.
There can be no…
Diana made a massive contribution toward shifting attitudes around people living with HIV, and she really didn't have to do that.
But we won't have any normal or balanced assessments of the queen over the next 10-days, but this shouldn't be erased from history.
@Keir_Starmer
Israel attacked the Iranian consulate in a sovereign state, which is a direct violation of The Vienna Convention. And as a lawyer you understand this is one of the most foundational documents of international law. Any thoughts on that?
Fascism is very close — and I don’t say that lightly.
This is absolutely terrifying. The people demanding our government ceases giving political support to a genocide are now one step away from being criminalised.
Remember this moment.
🚨 New: Keir Starmer supports Rishi Sunak's speech and says "it's an important task of leadership to defend our values" and "condemn intimidatory behaviour"
People need to keep putting this in perspective. It’s the largest killing of UN workers — who are supposed to be protected under IHL — in any “conflict,” ever.
The UN must name the perpetrator: Israel. Israel killed them. They did not “perish” they were murdered.
A solemn and profoundly sad moment at
@UNGeneva
today, honouring our
@UNRWA
colleagues killed in
#Gaza
. 89 have perished so far. It is outrageous.
What mechanisms are in place to reprimand the speaker for violating the neutrality of his office and being used as a public relations tool for another nation-state?
The UK-Israel friendship has never been stronger.
Speaker
@LindsayHoyle_MP
’s visit to Israel could not be a clearer demonstration of
@UKParliament
’s unity with Israel in our darkest hour.
So how many people have witnessed an arrest taking place, stopped to observe it, and then been told by the police if you don’t move, then they will also arrest you?
I have a PhD on the Middle East; I have written extensively about the region; and I have consulted for various UN agencies working in conflict zones.
@GaryLineker
's support for a ceasefire aligns with all credible humanitarian agencies. Murray is completely wrong.
Oh Gary, you’re an airhead. I do have some idea of your thoughts. Because you publish your ‘thoughts’ on here regularly. You know nothing of Hamas, nothing of the history of the Middle East, and nothing about ‘peace.’ Hamas is the enemy of ‘peace’. Stick to football
@GaryLineker
Stephen Fry is the stupid persons idea of an intellectual. It is a profoundly British disease to collapse posh into “clever”
That he recycles ignorance-as-profound-opinion, extracted from the most wretched of guardian columns, is, to be honest, no surprise at all.
I can’t sleep, I’m so haunted by the idea of sick and injured people in Al-Shifa, already scared and traumatised, facing a fucking military raid by the IDF.
I say again, I will not rest until every single public figure, journalist, and politician who supported this faces justice
Isn’t it interesting that British politicians are very confident to claim Israel “has a right to defend itself”but can’t state whether or not Palestinians, as an occupied people, have the right to water. Suddenly, when asked that question, they’re no longer “lawyers”.
Sorry, why is the speaker of the house in Israel? Under what possible mandate? Has this ever happened before in any other "conflict"? Will the speaker be visiting Yemen next?
Rather than spend his entire life on a super-yacht in the Mediterranean, Rishi Sunak — who is wealthier than the King — has taken up a life in politics explicitly *not* to help people. What sort of person does this? What is wrong with him?
People might dismiss this as PR, but Yemeni hospitality and honour is unmatched. They'll not consider the crew combatants. I've had dinner in North Yemen with a governor who showed me fragments of US/UK bombs, asked me to campaign against this, and then gave me a box of…
Commander of the Yemeni Navy to the crew of Israeli-owned cargo ship Galaxy Leader:
"We consider all of the crew as Yemeni people. Anything you want, we will bring it. You can consider Yemen as your own country."
🧵 As a reasonable worst case scenario the British government is planning scheduled energy blackouts. I lived in Lebanon for 7-years, where scheduled 3 hour cuts are part of every day life. Here’s what I learned from the Lebanese on how to cope:
I am a life-long republican and he is
#NotMyKing
.
I want to live in a normal country, with a written constitution, clear separation of powers, proportional electoral system, an elected second chamber, an enshrined set of rights, and absolutely no kings, queen, or princes.
I think this is one of the most shameful days in Keir Starmer’s political career, and that’s saying something.
Deliberately torpedoing a motion for an immediate ceasefire by undermining parliamentary traditions.
Thousands and thousands of children are dead.
Shameful.
An IDF soldier laughs and smashes up a shop in Jabalia refugee camp. The store will have been someone’s pride and joy, and a source of livelihood.
Such brutal cruelty without a second thought — carried out with pride and a camera.
Israel has bombed Beirut for the first time since the 2006 war. This is a major escalation.
Spare us the know-nothing buffoons and sudden Middle East specialists all asserting it is Hezbollah alone who threatens to “extend the war”
For decades, Israel has violated Lebanese…
Never ever forget Keir Starmer standing there, red faced, poppy pinned to his Savile Row suit, refusing to call for a ceasefire, while Palestinian children are being killed by Israel at a rate of 1 every 10 minute.
He is a monster.
I am ashamed to be British. I am ashamed that in the 21st century, my country, which has spilled blood around the world for centuries, still wants more.
Government and opposition: united in support for genocide in Gaza.
#NotInMyName
One of the worst things about the “Cost of Living Crisis” is poor people — who have always cooked on a budget — having to endure rich people explaining how to … cook on a budget …
🚨 NEW: Leftist MPs Tahir Ali and Kate Osamor are set to be deselected due to their support for Palestine.
A Labour source told PoliticsHome: "the whips have assured people that Tahir will not be selected". Osamor is expected to remain suspended, and will thus be deselected.
All large scale humanitarian operations and projects I’ve ever investigated have had allegations thrown at them — corruption, political infiltration, assumed biases, etc.
But I am not aware of any case, like UNRWA, where donor funds has been entirely pulled based on those…
Liz Truss just won 81326 votes from Tory Members and is now Prime Minister.
That means 0.12% of British People just selected the leader of our country and gifted her a parliamentary majority that will shape all our lives.
Don't let anyone ever tell you we live in a democracy.
Whenever you get back to Britain from a more normal European country your immediately confronted by how shabby everything is — roads an absolute state, buses covered in trash, trains cancelled, dreadful quality houses. I don’t know why everyone puts up with this.
The EU has cancelled aid funding for Palestine.
One of The EU's recent flagship projects was 30 million euros to supply clean drinking water in Gaza.
Palestinian children dying in agony from Cholera are not Hamas. That this point needs to be made is shocking beyond words.
🚨 BREAKING: Labour has confirmed that it will ABSTAIN on the SNP's motion calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
If the party does not successfully amend the SNP motion, Starmer will instruct Labour MPs to abstain. This will be the second time Labour has refused to back a ceasefire.
