Just to clarify, I don't hate this art style! I just think that it should have had more courage. If it committed more to the 2D vibe, tried a more interesting shading method, and tried not animating everything on ones, it could achieve the storybook feeling better than it does.

Hot take: Indie animation projects could be so much better if they wrote scripts more efficiently. Beyond improving the pacing, a lot of time and budget can be saved on production if your story gets to the point faster. High quality with a low budget requires you to work smarter.

@VoicesByZane I think what centrists simply do not get is that the entire world is primed, locked and loaded for a populist movement to sweep it. The only question is, will it be "The Poor vs The Rich", or "Fascists vs Everyone Else". The way things are headed, I see it being the latter.

There were a lot of unfair bad faith criticisms levied against Steven Universe, but I think that for a kid's show it did an amazing job at keeping its theme clear and constantly present. Self-expression, identity, and compassion in spite of great adversity are always at its core.
