'I did my own research' translation: 'I googled it and chose the rabbit hole I agreed with' there's no such thing as 'doing your own research' unless you're running actual experiments (even then they're based on other work and don't dismiss swaths of evidence for convenience)

Statins save lives. We can hail the power of lifestyle, discuss side effects AND dislike Big Pharma without denying that incontrovertible fact. 30+ placebo, double-blind, randomized trials on statins. Almost nothing in medicine meets that standard of evidence.

"If you have a CAC of zero you're definitely risk-free" "If your cholesterol is high you definitely have plaque and WILL have problems" We know neither of these are true (cont)

Why does pseudoscience and misinformation so often come bundled with racism and homophobia??? Has anyone figured this out? It's like a combo of all the worst human instincts.

Prescription meds are automatically seen as financially shady but supplements are somehow innocent & beyond suspicion Every single company that's contacted me slinging sponsorships and deals sells supplements or devices like CGMs zero contacts by Pharma

new study: atherosclerotic lesions in 3 out of 4 Inuit mummies dated 500y ago not a big fan of fossil data for dietary decisions (often more distracting than helpful) but it certainly makes one point powerfully: processed junk food not necessary for CAD

I get a sense that a lot of people are getting tired of misinformation. Of climate change poo-pooing. Of COVID minimizing & anti-vaxxing. Of statin/cholesterol/saturated fat denying. Every time gurus play "experts are wrong"®️, people die. And many are getting fed up.

"struggled with my weight for years" "found a diet online/blog/podcast, finally shed weight" "feel good but my cholesterol sky-rocketed" "so cholesterol doesn't cause CVD, scientists be wrong" If I see one more of these stories I'll gag 🤮
