Parachains are highly-customized and flexible L1 blockchains built with the Substrate SDK. Existing smart contract models tend to be overly general i.e. add and/or subtract. Substrate enables customization down to the use-case i.e. store this file.

Specialization allows for 1 instruction vs 100 small ones resulting in computational and economic efficiencies. It also enables parachains to be tailored to specific use-cases: Defi, EVM, gaming, NFTs privacy, oracles, etc. Parachains will be their own economies like legacy L1s

Tezos has also announced plans for a DA-layer and ZK rollups, but those are expected at a later date. Scaling is the crux of crypto these days, and @tezos is crushing it. 😤🚀

And the first 13 parachain slot auctions were completed, bonding 127.8 million DOT (11% of the total supply, worth $2.9 billion). Polkadot has 28 new slot auctions scheduled through February 2023 (bringing the total to 41).

Conversely, foundational KPIs held steady. @Polkadot maintained a healthy validator distribution by total stake, developer activity remained among the strongest in crypto, and users continued acquiring the token, signaling a healthy interest in the ecosystem.
