The day before yesterday, there were 5,970,000 transactions on the Polkadot relay chain. Yesterday, there were 6,930,000. This is still well below capacity. Polkadot’s treasury, which is managed by the token holders, collected 110,000 DOT.

The Luna token is used to provide security for the Terra blockchain. As Luna plummets, the cost of hijacking the Luna blockchain does too. And other chains like Osmosis have bridged Luna tokens over - this is the risk of not having shared security: the weakest link is toxic.

Transactions on Polkadot are currently being submitted at about 250,000 per hour, or 400-450 per block. This is up from 250-300 per block last night. Fees will not rise until about 1250 transactions per block, when blocks are considered 25% full.

Over the last 12 hours on the Rococo network, with 32 validators and 15 parachains, no node has had a finality lag of > 4. This means validators are self-selecting to check parachain blocks, recovering data, and learning of each others' checks quickly.

For those who say Polkadot uses Cardano's consensus protocol, it's only a very small 🧩. BABE is based on Ouroboros, but it only took about 2 weeks to code. GRANDPA: 2 months. Parachains consensus: 18 months. Thanks for the paper anyway. I had fun coding it.

The Parachains team at Parity just posted a project plan for Elastic Scaling. This feature will enable chains to use multiple cores simultaneously. With Agile Coretime, that means that chains will be able to dynamically scale up and down depending on need.

The on-demand parachains (parathreads) feature branch was just merged into the Polkadot node. This enables parachains to purchase a single block at a time on a spot market. Coming to the Rococo testnet soon. Cumulus PR for writing automated bidding collators in-progress.

Once asynchronous backing is deployed on Polkadot, we could consider a hard-fork to reduce the block time to 4s or even less. 6s was chosen because it's the smallest amount of time parachain backing could reasonably fit into. Async backing removes this need.

Polkadot doesn't charge rent to chains any more than Ethereum or Cosmos does. Less, in fact. Secure blockspace is a service that must be paid for. Polkadot, as a scaling solution, lowers these costs across the board.

Ethereum 2.0 changing its sharding design at this point in time would be a mistake. Coding a blockchain sharding implementation is incredibly difficult. Rewriting one that's halfway done is even harder. I'm speaking as someone who's build one and build a team to do it.

At the same relative time in Ethereum's lifecycle, the chain was stuttering under the weight of the Shanghai attacks. I should know - I worked around the clock with Parity and Geth devs for a week to mitigate them. These lessons are why Polkadot, much more complex, stays up.

People see "cheap transaction" as a good thing but "cheap blockchain" as a bad thing Building on Polkadot gets you high-quality blockspace at a lower cost than anywhere else - low costs that are then passed on to users.

What we've seen on Kusama so far is that the system is gathering a lot of momentum. Channels are cheap, so we're trending towards every parachain having a channel to every other parachain. This can't be done effectively in the bridges paradigm without compromising on security.

Over 23 million people in Turkey and Syria are affected by the earthquake, out of a combined total population of 100 million. 1 in 5 are affected, possibly dead or homeless. It is a terrible catastrophe and we must be prepared to help Turkey rebuild over the next years.
