More details to come, but looking for more religious and spiritual guests to discuss shared values with atheists and agnostics.
Please share.
There is no geological record of a worldwide flood.
The flood myth of the Bible couldn’t have been global.
No flood.
No Noah.
No Ark.
It’s just a myth.
What else is wrong with this story?
#mythology
Everyone loves to call Hitler an atheist.
What they won't admit is that 11 million Christians voted for him in 1932.
Stop with the bullshit, that Nazis were atheists.
Theists assert I was taught or coached into atheism.
How do you figure when I hold advanced degrees in the history of religions?
My godlessness happened after critical studies of religion.
@CassyWearsHeels
This is not really a fair comparison.
Like, at ALL!!
One is confident and talented.
The other is desperately seeking relevance on a phone app.
During lecture a student interrupted me to point out that leading by example or aspiring to be a more ethical person is all in vain - because in the Bible we are told matters only get worse until the end times.
Can I just fail him now? 🤣
This is a disgrace.
Not only is it in breach of US Flag Code, but it’s a glaring example of this White Houses’ incompetence and insistence on putting their social agenda ahead of patriotism.
78% of Texans are Christian.
4.4 million people voted for Greg Abbott in 2022, meaning about 3.5 million Christians supported him.
Abbott, a Christian, approves of saws and barbed wire to maim immigrants as they cross the border.
Isn't this the work of Christians?
Atheists need to remember that the separation of church and state in the US was promoted, argued for, and established by predominantly Christian founders.
There's so much more to sex than reproduction.
It's fun, it promotes trust and bonding, and - most importantly - what consenting adults do is none of anyone's business.
Live and let live.
Heterosexuality and homosexuality are natural expressions of human sexuality.
There is no evidence for an Adam or Eve.
Misogynists use this myth to justify their tyrannical attempts to control women.
There was no Adam.
There was no Eve.
There was no garden.
There is no sin.
Men and women are equal.
What else is wrong with this story?
#mythology
There is no evidence for god(s).
Since our religion largely correlates with where we are born, there is no reason to view one superior to another.
To do so is simply cultural chauvinism.
This is an uncomfortable truth for some atheists, but to defeat Christian Nationalists we will need religious people who believe in the rule of law and freedom of expression on our side.
Ashli Babbitt broke the law and endangered the lives of legislators, police officers, and others.
She was told to go back, retreat; instead she chose to force her way through a window; and thus breaching a secure evacuation area.
Don’t fuck around.
Don’t find out.
There is no record of a worldwide flood in the last 11,000 years.
The flood myth of the Bible couldn’t have been global.
If it even happened at all it was local to the ancient Hebrews and their neighbors.
Lots of peoples worldwide have such myths.
Do you know any?
The same people that want to put Bibles in schools are the same people who want to remove ‘overtly sexual’ books from libraries.
Did you all even read the Bible?
I’ve studied science for years, although not as seriously as our scientist friends.
I never once worshipped science.
I happen to be an atheist, but plenty others study and read in sciences, too, without worshiping.
Let’s not pretend appreciation of science is atheist religion.
a few things:
1. note the inherent misogyny.
2. her dude is apparently a whore.
3. if she works with equipment, it might be her last time.
i refuse to believe she is sincere, rather she is likely cashing in on incel trad-fetish morons.
Theists!
Flood myths from around the world are NOT evidence of a single global flood event.
All it suggests is that many peoples around the world experienced catastrophic floods.
A world without religion is not a world without war.
It is a world with only one less tool the greedy can use to foment gullible masses into wars over resources, there are others.
The comment section of this post shows at least two things:
1) It's mostly men who have strong visceral responses against homosexuality, even going so far as to compare it to heinous, violent acts; and
2) Many detractors don't understand the basics of evolutionary biology.
This is a clear overreach.
This is precisley what people have in mind when they say religion should stay out of government.
This is SB 1958, introduced by OK Sen. Dusty Deevers.
Interesting exchange with my oldest today and some "Christian" kids on the playground.
My kid asked to play along in a game of tag. The two Christians insisted that only Christians could play tag.
My boy withstood 20 minutes of evangelizing by two brainwashed boys over a game.
Sometimes I wonder if the former atheists who are now theists, were never really atheists at all.
Perhaps they were simply raised without a religion and then found a certain variety of theism compelling because it gave them a sense of purpose which they were lacking.
@Lilith_Atheist
People also mistake the ubiquity of flood myths with a single event; conveniently forgetting (or perhaps never thinking) that humans generally settle near water, making flood events an inevitability.
In sum, the universality of flood stories doesn't support the story of the Ark
My 3 year old is not an atheist.
I really don’t think she is capable of religious belief or my particular style of god-rejection.
She’s innocent.
Defining atheism from a lack-belief perspective really waters down atheism if you think about it.
Involved in a multi-car crash today on I-5 because some dingleberry had to look at his cell phone in the fast lane.
Here's your reminder that you are driving two tons of steel and your shit can wait.
(I'll be alright.)
In 1932, the last free elections were held in Germany.
11,737,021 voted for Adolf Hitler, 7 years after Mein Kampf.
Those voting for the Nazis were 33% of the voting block. Christians, whether we like it or not, were instrumental in the rise of Nazism.
It can happen here.
@hrgiger44
@darkprofu
No there's not a single documented case of homosexuality outside the human race.
Also, I don't know any straight couples who have anal sex. Sounds pretty rare.
I've never met any girl who asked for, or even wanted, anal sex.
Calling for abortion bans, restricting birth control, no-fault divorces, criminalizing same-sex marriages, prohibiting LGTBQ+, the list goes on . . . because your Christian faith dictates such IS promoting Christian Nationalism.
Once again, lots of bigots couldn’t just scroll by the post. Instead, they are compelled to stop and spill their hate, often cloaked in religious language.
Reminder to atheists: it's okay to be friends with or enagage in conversation people of religious backgrounds.
If your position is reasonable and defendsible, you shouldn't hide behind a block to avoid conversation.
With that being said, block or mute anyone that is abusive.
It is a common claim that atheists are responsible for the mass human death of the 20th century; this is false.
Whether in Germany, USSR, or China the vast majority of people on all sides of the conflicts were religious.
Leave atheists the fuck alone.
If non-religious, religious, and spiritual people who believe in the separation of church & state and human rights are willing to work together politically then the fundies don’t stand a chance.
Remember that.
The Chicxulub crater in Mexico was created by an asteroid ≈ 10-15 km wide.
The ecological impact was devastating and planetwide.
Why doesn’t the Bible or any other scripture mention it?
@davenewworld_2
At the literal bottom of the Mariana Trench,
Above the Pyrennes Mountains,
Thousands of feet in the air.
Microplastics are everywhere.
You’re right, this should be discussed often and wide.
