New for those of you who are Nebulized: it’s been asserted that owning and operating a car consumes 25% of your waking hours. I went in search of the truth, including the cities where it’s not remotely close to that, and cities where it’s horrifically worse. Watch at your peril

The thing I always notice about stuff like this is, the people talking about how big their car payments are always seem secretly proud, like spending that much on a car is a flex, rather than evidence that they’ve been utterly brainwashed by slick marketing and peer pressure

Not a fan of the term “virtue signaling,” but if anything is virtue signaling it’s spending $80k on a vehicle that’s essentially an SUV with a little bit of space in the back to signal what a no-nonsense, salt of the earth, hardworking dude you are

Free idea: (1) bulldoze these airports and build dense neighborhoods instead; (2) bond the massive new tax revenues from redevelopment to build fast trains and run them every 5 minutes on the northeast corridor

If the “American flag” decal on your truck is grayscale, or it’s a Punisher head, or half confederate, or really anything other than the actual form and colors the flag is supposed to be, you probably aren’t the patriot you think you are.

I already knew that many of our worst urban freeways were intentionally driven through Black neighborhoods — but this week I learned that some of them were later renamed for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Pretty revolting stuff.

In the year of our lord 2024, we’re STILL allowing people to drive and park their cars on one of the busiest pedestrian streets on the west coast. Just crazy-pill level stuff

Is it really too much to ask that elected officials actually understand how traffic dynamics and induced travel work if they’re going to be making billion dollar decisions about it

Begging urbanists to stop using the term “induced demand” as if it’s some sort of checkmate. Inducing demand is exactly what pro-growth/business people want. Talk about induced traffic or induced congestion instead

Someone said this graphic from today’s video is misleading because it uses population as a denominator instead of VMT. I disagree. The fact that we drive so much is one of the major components of our nation’s abysmal transpo safety record, not a mitigating factor. Sheesh
