You might think Charles is fancy having the crown sent in it’s own car but lemme tell you… I was sectioned and the 136 suite didn’t put my pants back in my bag, so I arrived at the ward without them. So they had my pants sent to the ward (40 miles away) in their own taxi

Had a much more helpful visit from the crisis team. They brought some food for me and ran me a bath. Then changed my bedding for me while I had a wash for the first time in about a week. Sometimes practical help and small acts of kindness make all the difference

Picture the scene. You’re in ICU. You’ve just been extubated after a week on a ventilator. You’re experiencing delirium and are incredibly unwell. A nurse asks if it’s ok to take a picture of you to put on the ward’s twitter (Don’t worry they’ll cover your face with a 😊 emoji)

It’s early to call it but I think this might be the most patronising, offensive, toxic positivity by MH services we’ll see all year. On a psychiatric ward, in the clinic room, ON THE MEDS TROLLEY they have this sign suggesting you try TRN (herbal tea) instead of PRN

Why do people have to die before the NHS admit even a hint of wrong doing? You make a complaint after neglect or abuse during an inpatient admission and it’s ‘sorry you feel that way’ But when someone dies: ‘lessons will be learnt’* How about learning lessons while we’re alive?

Introducing the SAPAS, an 8-question screening for personality disorders, in primary care is a recipe for disaster. It's a perfect excuse to offroll, exclude and delegitimise patients in an already overwhelmed system with 1.6 million waiting for mental health services.

@samaritans Here’s my hot economic take*: Samaritans could have spent the money/time used on this report on virtually anything else and it would have been a better use of their money *No fun infographic, sorry

I think this tweet incapsulates so much of what's wrong with mental health services approach to PD. They are more concerned with how it 'looks' rather than addressing prejudice. They want to call it a 'complex emotional needs' pathway, make it more palatable. 1/4

@rcpsych Interesting that you chose not to share the summary of the course publicly. Any reason for that? Is this something you stand by? #PD2022

Recently I’ve been overwhelmed by traumatic memories of hospital In response my care coordinator keeps saying wards ‘are not the right environment’ for ‘complex’ patients & I got fed up trying to explain to her why that’s offensive so today I just sent her @RRowanOlive ’s article

I have noticed one MH Trust has started to refer to all their inpatients as ‘service leaders’. If I am sectioned in hospital I am hardly leading on my own care. ‘Leader’ suggests power which patients don’t have... its deceitful

What about autism you might ask? Dw, they have it covered, going to pains to suggest that ‘neurodiversity’ can *co occur* with complex emotional needs aka PD So while you wait 5 years for that autism assessment (if you’re lucky) you can be neglected in primary care 🥲

YIKES I have more Push to diagnose older people, especially women, with personality disorder Dunno how to tell you this lads but trauma informed care is not just prompting GPs to ask Betty if she was evacuated so you can assume trauma and give her a stigmatising label 🤯

Reminder: this was my experience with these ‘highly qualified, highly experienced, highly specialised people’. I was on the same ward as Jessie, albeit in 2019 ‘I have never been in a place more indifferent to suffering than a psychiatric ward’

What’s the worst name you’ve heard for a mental health service? Today I learned there’s a personality disorder service called ‘Thinking Well’
