Ah yes my Twitter where I espouse such awful ideas as... *checks notes* "everyone deserves human rights and the necessities of life", "safety is a good thing", "racism is still a problem", & "actually, as it turns out fascism is bad who knew?".
As a primary special interest I've spent a vast amount of time since January 2020 learning about SARS-CoV-2 & COVID.
So, please consider that fact when I say -
I am FAR more concerned about COVID now than I was then. Almost all the research shows It's Really Bad, Actuallyโข๏ธ .
โYou know you donโt have to wear masks anymore?โ
OMG yes everyone knows!!! Seeing 99% of folks unmasked is a big tip off ๐๐๐
Anyone masking now is OBVIOUSLY making an active choice.
โ๏ธ Questions โ๏ธ that are in reality cloaked demands aren't needed.
One thing that contributes to the invisiblization of the COVID pandemic, in addition to anti-mask peer pressure, is that cautious & vulnerable people stay home.
#LongCovid
afflictees stay home. The dead stay in the ground. RN public sphere is a masterclass in Survivorship Bias.
"Ebola is airborne." \ "Ebola isn't airborne."
Look, with a case fatality rate of 40%-60% for Sudan

I think the precautionary principle should apply. I'd use every bit of the best PPE available to me if I was trying not to contract Ebola ๐คท
I am begging folks to understand that the perceived severity of an acute infection does not necessarily correlate to its long term implications... ๐
Would anyone say that HIV is NBD just because the initial infection is "flu-like"?? ๐
To protect your family and help reduce your risk of getting or spreading respiratory viruses like the
#flu

#RSV
or
#Covid19
this fall season, use personal protective measures like wearing a mask, improving indoor ventilation and cleaning hands regularly.
I disagree with the "rigidity in thinking" characterization of
#Autism

#neurotypical
person I know ๐คท
I wonder if it is because they are misconstruing consistently resisting bad peer pressure with it???
@alexmeshkin
A lot of folks in the replies way too laser focused on Russian / Ukrainian wheat when food precarity is far broader than that; supply chain issues (occurring and potential), rising fuel costs driving up food prices, climate crisis disrupting traditional food systems, etc.
๐คก: "Masks are so depersonalizing!"
Actually, I'm going to say the real depersonalization is subjecting vulnerable people to needless isolation by refusing to take even the most baseline, trivial measures so that they can even just do life necessary stuff...
#WearAMask
Keep reminding people that we *literally cannot know* the long term effects from SARS 2 infection! ๐ณ
Things we *do know* can develop from viral infections in the long term -

I never do a COVID risk assessment. It's long been done and unlikely to change - it is a mortal threat at all times.

Why do we not see more folks

One of the reasons is that we've made the public realm so dangerous that many people who need masking to be safe simply cannot participate because one-way masking is not enough to cultivate Public Health.
We have to work together ๐๐

Respiratory protections work so poorly at the population level that we murderized a while influenza lineage while we bothered to employ them. Pure coincidence I'm sure ๐๐
Our respiratory protection measures in 2020 were so good that we likely extincted a whole influenza lineage.

Masks typically do not deplete oxygen. You can easily test this out. Get a pulse oximeter. Measure your baseline state. Put your mask on. Wait. Check it again.

Survivorship bias is a cognitive distortion that gives undue weight to what has made it through and discounts what was lost. People look around and see "normal" but the illusion is only maintained by disregarding the unseen suffering people.
