Big meta-analytic findings!!! The GRE’s ability to predict graduate outcomes has decreased significantly over time as the diversity of graduate students has increased. Predictive value also decreases as samples include more People of Color.

Like so many, my worst nightmare came true this Christmas. My antivax family resisted taking tests on Christmas before seeing each other-but I was INSISTENT-they finally agreed. I paid for the tests- Christmas morn everyone was negative. The next day my sister became ill- Covid+

@DanielBolnick When i put myself in the PI position, these sound like great ideas for accountability, BUT thinking as a trainee I find that a lot of these feel like ‘micromanaging.’ Some weeks in grad school I wouldn’t have had anything to report, and would have resented this.

So much this 👇🏻👇🏻 sometimes I don’t even realize or admit to even myself or others that this is true. I’m plagued by feelings of laziness/shame/guilt over how much migraines take away from my life and productivity. The trivialization of migraine needs to stop.

@MarissaScavuzzo While impressive, I hate that any one has to “tough it out” in this way in order to conform to toxic academic work culture. I hope you feel better and get all the deserved time to take care of yourself before and after baby!

Not to mention- my career is still being subsidized by my non-academic partner. Without him, my income would not even qualify for a 2bd apartment on my own in San Diego.

This #SfN was full of the highest highs and lowest lows for me- in the middle of SfN and the day before my daughters 2nd bday, my grandma (GG) passed away. She was an unstoppable force & my biggest fan & I miss her. Please everyone keep doing cool science for her, she loved it!
