I've literally been called a fag or a fairy or queer by so many patients over my career simply because I have a higher voice and wear a pride flag. And despite this, I'm somehow able to overlook this and still take care of them.

The actual pride movement is about radical acceptance of people despite their identity or orientation, but people like you are too biased to care.

I had a young patient come in for psych issues, and when I was interviewing her, she noticed the pride flag on my ID badge. "Are you gay?" she asked, eyes widening. I said yes. "Cool, I'm lesbian!" And then we high fived 👏 These are the patients I wear the badge for 🏳️‍🌈

Any political movement associated with it is a byproduct of human rights campaigning. The flag was not developed as a political symbol and any political weight is put on it externally.

@GChristiemd The pride flag, to me, symbolizes the freedom to be oneself and love oneself despite what society says. It's my way of supporting my queer patients without needing to say a word. If the pride flag offends someone, it is because they are misinformed about the queer community.
