I would also add that many of them have a belief system wherein their good works (and money) are channeled through a religious organization, and they resent others' having more independence about how to give to charity which is essentially a "tithing".

My oldest cat died today. About 20 years go I went to purchase some metal posts and the guy wrote my tag to included the words "free cat". I said, "Okay, where is it?" and she never liked to be petted with your hand but you could with your foot. Rest in peace Jade.
