Please can you help us? If you have a drone, please DO NOT fly it over Winter Hill. There are helicopters flying in the area to extinguish the fire and the drones are putting firefighters and pilot’s lives at risk.
@weetabix
@HeinzUK
We’ve bean called to a serious incident and are asking the public to stay away from the area. There is a cordon in place and people are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
@firesearchdogs
have refused to attend. This is one for
@LancsPolice
due to the serious nature.
Congratulations to the thirty five men and women who have successful completed thirteen weeks of training to become a Lancashire Firefighter. Hats off to you...well maybe keep the hats on, you all look super smart!
We’ve had an overwhelming response to our plea for softrack vehicles. You’re a smashing bunch of people ❤️ we’re doing our best to message everyone back and passing on viable option details to our team. Thank you again Lancashire for all the love and support!
There are nine fire engines at Winter Hill again today as we continue to tackle hot spots that remain. Despite the damage caused by the fire, there’s grass growing through 🌱
The savvy people of
@Morrisons
(formerly Safeway) of Chorley Old Road, Bolton, Atlas Mills thought that seeing as we’ve got all these kind donations we’d need somewhere cool to store them whilst up here. Genius, thanks! 🤛🏼👌🏼
Winter Hill fire update. Saturday 8.45am. At daybreak ten fire engines and crews (approx 50 firefighters) were assigned to three areas of the Winter Hill Moor. We continue to be inundated with thanks, offers of help, refreshments and food by our wonderful public. Thanks so much!
We have today deployed 36 firefighters and six fire engines to assist our colleagues at
@LancashireFRS
and
@manchesterfire
with the moorland fire at
#WinterHill
as part of a mutual aid agreement
Today, some of our colleagues are partaking it "I'm not a Muslim but I will fast (for one day)". This is community initiative by
@1VoiceBlackburn
.
They will collectively observe a day-long fast before concluding at 6:30pm to prayer and break the fast with an Iftari meal.
Congratulations to
@Lancs_FireDCFO
who was appointed today as the Service's new Chief Fire Officer. Justin will officially takeover on 1st May when Chris Kenny retires.
Hard to comprehend, but a report's just come in from our firefighters still at the Winter Hill fire, busy extinguishing 'hot spots', that they had to intervene and turn away a family who thought it would be ok to light a disposable barbecue up there. Not malicious, but !!!!???.
We have 6 fire engines, the drone team and the rope rescue team currently in attendance at a fire on Promenade, Blackpool.
Please stay away from the area. The drone team are in operation so please do not fly drones in the area as you may obstruct emergency operations.
Thank you to Tesco stores in and around the Adlington area, Marks and Spencer Horwich, Greenhalgh Craft Bakers, Winter Hey Lane Taxis and Home Bakery to name a few who have sent donations over. Apologies to all the people and companies we haven’t mentioned. ❤️
#winterhillfire
Overnight we had 10 fire crews at the fire on Winter Hill and as of 04:30hrs this morning we began increasing the number of crews at the scene and currently have 22 fire engines in attendance.
Crews at the wildfire near Winter Hill have managed to contain the fire and it is now almost extinguished. We've been working alongside partners
@unitedutilities
@BoltonMRT
@manchesterfire
and used some 4x4 vehicles with water bowsers, our wildfire burn team from
@BacupFire
We’re really concerned that members of the public are heading up onto the moors. We really appreciate your offer to help but public safety is a priority and we ask people to stay away. Keeping windows and doors closed due to the smoke is also advised. Thank you.
We're proud to be the only fire & rescue service given an outstanding rating in
@HMICFRS
reports published today. Our Chief Fire Officer says it is evidence that we are a strongly performing, forward thinking service & he's proud of every member of staff
Good morning all. We have 15 fire engines at Winter Hill this morning and we will be joined again by
@LondonFire
later today. Please take care when you are out today and keep away from the exclusion zone on
#WinterHill
Please don’t use sky lanterns to show your support for the NHS and other key workers. The moors are tinder dry at the moment and they could cause a wildfire or harm wildlife such as horses and cattle.

It's been an exhausting week for search and rescue teams in
#Turkey
, including our four-pawed friends.
@firesearchdogs
Sid and Davey, have done outstanding work and were well looked after by the
@UK_ISAR_TEAM
vet.
Here they are enjoying a well-earned rest 💤
The support to our firefighters has been amazing over the last few days. We’ve had people offering their support & offering donations. If you anyone would like to donate water, isotonic drinks and packaged food, please take them to our Training Centre on Southport Road in Euxton
Over the last 24 hours, we’ve been receiving videos of people lighting campfires on the moors and deliberately setting fire to grass at Worden Park. This is not a joke and the damage these fires cause can be immeasurable. We will be sharing these videos with
@LancsPolice
This is the incredible moment rescuers reunited a young mother and daughter after the devastating earthquakes in
#Turkey
❤️
CM Lindsay Sielski recorded this while working with

Huge thanks to all the kind messages we’ve had from the people of Lancashire & beyond offering donations for our hardworking crews.

Saturday and Sunday - 08:00 - 16:00
Say and big hi and hello there to our shiny new wholetime firefighters who passed out today
@LfrsStc
congratulations gang and welcome to the team! Some may be coming to a station near you soon
#firefamily
Just so you know we categorically, 100%, really definitely don’t wish we were at Winter Hill or any other wildfire today. However what we would wish for is a helicopter to douse us in cool water! We’re melting in our fire kit! 🥵 No BBQs or cigarettes on our moorlands please 👍
Today we bid a fond farewell to FF Vicky Cockram who is leaving after 25 years Service. She is the third female to join LFRS and now the first to retire. We wish her all the best in her retirement. Thank you Vicky!
We’d like to thank
@OfficialBWFC
&
@BoltonWhitesHtl
for kindly giving away 20 tickets to see
@thekillers
tonight at the Macron Stadium to our firefighters in recognition of their work at the Winter Hill wildfire over the past two weeks. We hope everyone enjoys the concert 🎤
UPDATE 04:30 At first light this morning twelve fire engines as well as crews from
@CumbriaFire
and wildfire units returned to Winter Hill to continue to tackle the moorland fire.
Our air support unit has been supporting firefighting operations at Winter Hill since it began. The drone is our eye-in-the-sky & allows us to see hot spots in the peat through thermal imaging. Mark & Lee would like to say thank you for all the support & donations
#ThankYou
The support & generosity we've received from the people of Lancashire in response to the Winter Hill fire has been overwhelming. Thank you to everyone who donated at our Chorley training centre. We have enough supplies now for the foreseeable future & can't thank you enough.
Following rain at Winter Hill last night, which went some way to help extinguish smouldering spots, we continue firefighting operations today with nine fire engines at the incident. It's a misty moor today ☁️
Thank you once again for all your support for our crews at Winter Hill. The number of fire engines at the scene has been reduced to six until full firefighting operations resume at 4.30am. More details about the incident here ->
We have 12 fire engines at Winter Hill again today as we continue to stop the fire spreading & protect areas of high risk. This image from our drone shows some of the 18sq km site we're working in
We were dismayed to find a discarded disposable barbecue on
#WinterHill
. This reckless act could have easily started another large fire close to the existing fires on Winter Hill
At
#WinterHill
this morning we began to increase the number of pumps in attendance. We now have 9 crews from
@LancashireFRS
and 5 crews from
@manchesterfire
deployed across the incident ground with a further crew from
@NorthYorksFire
set to join us later this morning.
#WinterHill
update at 22:20 we have reduced this incident to five Lancashire fire engines and five Manchester fire engines until 04:00. Thanks to
@LondonFire
for today, rest easy tonight!
With more fine weather to come over the next few days and into the weekend,
@BoltonMRT
have provided this. It shows the areas we need people to stay clear of; not only for public safety but to help us maintain the progress we've made so we can give you back full access ASAP
We are donating 4 pallets of equipment and a ready to use fire engine to firefighters on the frontline in
#Ukraine
. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian firefighters and emergency services who are risking their lives to protect their communities, and we hope for peace and safety
We have four firefighters who will be going over to Greece with firefighters from four other fire and rescue services to assist in bringing these terrible wildfires under control
#wildfires
#Greece
British firefighters are deploying urgently to Greece to assist with the wildfires - at the Home Secretary’s request. Teams from five UK Fire & Rescue Services - via NFCC’s National Resilience function - will carry out vital firefighting assistance.
Congratulations to
@Lancs_FireDCFO
and Lindsay Sielski who have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List for their services to Fire and Rescue. Justin has been awarded a Queen’s Fire Service Medal whilst Lindsay has been awarded a British Empire Medal.
We’ve been up a blustery Winter Hill today planting trees to restore the site following the summer’s wildfires. Big shout out to
@BacupFire
and
@Walton_FIRE
for their hard graft!
#winterhill
The Walker Fold car park and walking site will be open from tomorrow!
Congratulations to our former Chief Fire Officer, Chris Kenny, who has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours list. Chris retired earlier this year and he has been recognised for his services to the Fire and Rescue Service.
At 11am, we took part in a minute's silence in honour of FF Barry Martin of
@fire_scot
, who recently lost his life in the line of duty at a fire in Edinburgh.
Our thoughts remain with his friends and family, as well as our Scottish colleagues 🏴
#FireFamily
#RestInPeace
We've just had reports of walkers up at
#WinterHill
and people with disposable BBQ's. We still have crews working at this incident so please help us by taking note of the exclusion zone still in place and not having BBQs in this dry environment. Thank you
We would like to wish Kygo a very happy 1st birthday 🥳
Kygo is one of our Fire Search Dogs and we just can’t believe how much she’s grown!
We hope she has a paw-fect day 🐾
It has been 48 hours since WM Dave Widdup, WM Tom Cogley, acting CM Stewart Bromwich and CM Adam Varey landed in Greece. The team have been working alongside local firefighting teams at a fire front in an area of Gortynia. We wish them & their Greek counterparts all the best 🇬🇷🇬🇧
We have taken the decision to cancel the open day event at
#Chorley
Fire Station this weekend due to the incident at Winter Hill. Apologies for any inconvenience caused but we will be arranging as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.
We're still feeling a bit emotional that England won't be playing in the
#WorldCupFinal
on Sunday. So we're going to stare at this picture of our beautiful search and rescue dogs for the rest of the afternoon to cheer ourselves up! Looking good
@supersid54
!
The fire on Winter Hill has now merged with the fire
@manchesterfire
were fighting on Scout Moor. We still have 10 fire engines and the fire engines from Manchester at the scene. We advise members of the public to keep clear of the areas for their own safety.
We've had nine fire engines at Winter Hill today and will go down to six overnight. Rain is on the cards for the North West tonight and tomorrow so we're hoping it falls on the moors
Wondering why we’re still at
#winterhill
today? Unfortunately the rain hasn’t completely put it out yet... crews are still working hard to extinguish the hot spots. This picture was taken at 5am this morning😱🚒 🔥
We have been overwhelmed the offers of support over the last few days. The number of crews on the moors will reduce overnight unless there become a risk to property or life. Here is a short video of our response over the last 24 hours -
Today, Adam and Paul dropped off the fire engine that we have donated to Ukrainian firefighters. We are proud of both of them. A big thank you to the whole team from across the UK and to firefighters across Europe who have supported each other.
@NFCC_FireChiefs
@FIRE_AID_UK
We’ve made it to Blackpool!
@LythamFire
and crew are walking 11 miles for the Australian
#bushfires
and the 11 firefighters who have died. Give us a wave if you see us.
Today is
#InternationalFirefightersDay
and we remember and thank all those firefighters serving, those who have served and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. ♥️
Overnight at
#WinterHill
we have had 12 fire engines up at the scene. We now have 20 fire crews in attendance and will be continuing to tackle remaining hot spot and smouldering areas throughout the day.
Well that's it for
@NorthYorksFire
on
#Winterhill
. What a difference in 2 weeks! A little rain & the grass is starting to grow again.
Our thanks to
@LancashireFRS
, the many support services, volunteers & the general public for the kind hospitality & generosity, truly humbling!
Firefighting has finished at Winter Hill but people are asked to stay on the paths in the area to avoid any further damage to the environment and allow it to recover
We want you to know just how important
@NW_Fire_Control
has been to our Service over the last five days. We estimate they have taken over 6,500 calls in this time and they have been a tremendous support. Thank you 😊
We are deeply saddened to hear that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away . Our deepest condolences are with the Royal Family at this very sad time.
Flags at our fire stations will now be flown at half-mast to mark the national period of mourning.
We’ve had an overwhelming response to our plea for softrack vehicles. You’re a smashing bunch of people ❤️ we’re doing our best to message everyone back and passing on viable option details to our team. Thank you again Lancashire for all the love and support!
