My brother, Zachary, died of an overdose early yesterday morning, 28th of September, at the age of 31. For many years, Zachary struggled with drug use, especially fentanyl, and he repeatedly overdosed. Drugs ravaged his life and transformed him for the worse.

Owing to his deterioration, our relationship had been fractured, which makes his death difficult to process. Even prior to his death, I had long mourned the loss of my brother, especially the friendship, kindness, and playfulness I remembered.

Still I had hoped that, against all odds, he would recover, find a better footing with drugs, and we would once again be in each others’ lives. Sadly his death steals that chance, even if it has relieved him of much pain.

Recently I happily accepted an appointment as a Lecturer in Law at @KentLawSchool in Canterbury, UK. I start September 1. There I will teach medical law and tort law, and continue research in critical legal theory, especially re: the lawful handling of human bodies and parts.
