Outside the home of LA City Council President Nury Martinez, protesters are asking for her resignation and playing the leaked recordings on a loudspeaker.
Know there’s a *lot* going on today but I am on Blizzard Way at the employee walkout. The state of CA is suing Activision Blizzard for a pattern of pay/gender discrimination and sexual harassment. Employees found company’s response to the lawsuit “abhorrent.”
NEW: On Monday, an Officer Jason Mitchell Valles, who works out of LAPD's South Bureau, was spotted in a restaurant nearby to the 77th Street Station wearing a Jolly Roger badge. Same design as the flag flown over the station that triggered an internal investigation.
Outside The Game Awards, workers from several studios and Stripper Strike Noho are picketing in front.
One worker tells me that labor is often not represented at the event, which usually highlights creative directors.
They are wearing hats saying "Labor Creates Games"
This story is a must-read! LAUSD students were told they were going on a field trip to honor Tyre Nichols. By the end of the trip, they say they were wearing VR headsets to simulate how police respond to school shootings:
Susan Smith Dorsey High School students speak out on how a Building Blue Bridges field trip to honor Tyre Nichols turned into a "pro-police" event.
They call it "inappropriate and traumatizing.”

It should be a major citywide scandal that LASD filmed themselves and were interviewed by major news outlets just days ago saying they housed this veteran, and the mayor and LAPD chief supported it, and now the person is back on the street
Update: “they lied to me”
Vietnam veteran Robert says
@LASDHQ
deputies dropped him off at the VA and left Wednesday. He slept outside that night in his wheelchair after deputies threw away his belongings and cheered he was going to get housed.
@SpecNews1SoCal
Just caught Jeffrey Katzenberg meeting with Gil Cedillo, identified myself and requested an interview, Katzenberg declined saying he was just having an “off the record meeting.”
Now: A Zoom phonebank for Rep. Adam Schiff's Senate campaign was just bombarded with disruptors calling for Schiff to call for a ceasefire in Gaza as Schiff spoke.
Schiff ignored the disruption and the chat was disabled:
This is the officer that accosted me, physically grabbed my press pass, instructed me not to interview people, and falsely stated the number of beds on offer.
Today we cleaned up an encampment at
@ElPuebloLA
. Rotten food, human waste, dead rodents and needles. I offered housing to those we encountered. All refused. People should not be living in these conditions. Wish I can force them into housing and treatment.

NOW: At UCLA, where Students for Justice in Palestine have organized a march through the campus. There's hundreds of people here.
Also spoke to Dr. Cornel West, who called the march "people fighting for justice -A beautiful thing."
A source tells me that LA Fed staffers signed an NDA months ago that prevents them from publicly speaking about leadership, and that they are not to go out and protest right now, or it would be grounds for termination. Additionally, their computers are being surveilled.
NOW: Jewish Americans with IfNotNow are at Congressman Adam Schiff's office asking that the congressman support a ceasefire in Gaza.
A staffer from the office says they will not open the door due to 'security reasons.'
Update: There is now a standoff between the Pro-Palestine activists and Schiff staffers who opened the door to the office.
Schiff staffers say they have called the Burbank PD, protesters say they won't leave until they get a chance as constituents to speak with Schiff.
Pro-Palestine activists with IfNotNow are currently occupying the Burbank office of Rep. Adam Schiff calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Some say they are also fasting for Purim in solidarity with people starving in Gaza:
In a stunning moment, Los Angeles Co Sheriff Alex Villanueva revealed LASD is investigating his political opponent

@AleneTchek

Now: Protesters have taken over the intersection of Venice Blvd and Lincoln Blvd at a BLM-LA vigil for the death of Keenan Anderson, who died after being tased by the LAPD. Anderson's family has filed a $50 million dollar claim against the City
The LAPD and DHS are on video brutalizing people for everyone to see, but the LA Times largely ignores this, painting the police attacking protesters as a "clash," and call out vandals instead. "Officers hit some of the protesters with batons" is the most critical they get.
LAPD officer on 41.18 anti-encampment zones: "They pop up a tent, then they get cited. If they don't take care of the ticket, it turns into a warrant and they go to jail."
Pretty clear that neither services nor housing are the intention of the law.
Overheard at a sweep today: cop explaining to an angry housed resident how to call their council office to initiate the process of creating a 41.18 special enforcement zone.
NEW: I've successfully sued the City of LA for records as far back as last August that the office of Councilmember
@JoeBuscaino
would not produce. The City produced the records and paid over $11K in attorney's fees as part of the settlement.
Councilmember Rodriguez refers to "physical intimidation" as terrorism.
Anyways, here is her being confronted by the LAPD in a parking lot about the police budget:
The physical assault of Councilmember de León and his staff at a holiday event is not protected righteousness and those who rationalize these acts are complicit in the assault.
Many of the folks being targeted today by the LAPD at Wi Spa by less-lethals, completely illegally, are journalists. A photographer was pushed down by LAPD. A Guardian reporter was attacked by protesters. Where is media guild and the shamus solidarity on this one?
still have not seen the terms "brutal" or "brazen" in any of the headlines describing the 4 killings by LAPD officers in the past week, nor any suggestion that there is a wave or pattern of killings. how odd
'Like a digital Tower of Babel, social media is evolving into an increasingly ugly and chaotic space.'
Commentary: As those aboard the Titan submersible suffer, social media laughs
EXCLUSIVE: LA City Councilmember Paul Koretz apparently broke City law when he aided former employee, Shawn Bayliss, in a lobbying scheme involving Mohamed Hadid's doomed $250 million dollar Bel Air mansion:
Pro-Palestine activists with IfNotNow are currently occupying the Burbank office of Rep. Adam Schiff calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Some say they are also fasting for Purim in solidarity with people starving in Gaza:
The LA Times used its deluge of "smash-and-grab" stories to invent a pattern in its news pages where progressive policy caused crime - now 5 LAPD shootings in 6 days and no assertions made about the LAPD budget, training, chief, or commission. They are merely senseless tragedies
Near Mayoral candidate Rick Caruso's home in Brentwood, where pro-abortion protesters have gathered to protest. Caruso has given over $1 million to right-wing causes, and has previously stated that he only supported abortion in some cases.
CHP just announced that all people on the freeway southbound as well as *specifically* all members of the media are in violation of the law and subject to the arrest immediately.
I asked for a clarification from an officer RE: media - who said that I was breaking the law.
poorly reported and borderline hateful framing by LAT. aside from not confirming whether the anti-LGBT+ protesters are parents LAUSD schools - the implication here is that people supporting LGBT+ rights cannot also have the concerns of "parents"
Police stood watch outside a North Hollywood elementary school Friday morning as a group of parents protested a Pride Day assembly, bringing to a head weeks of turmoil that saw a transgender teacher’s LGBTQ Pride flag burned.
There is zero evidence that the LAPD 'accidentally' or 'unintentionally' shot a 14-year-old. Just as there is there is no evidence they 'unintentionally' blew up 27th street. As a reporter, you don't have to give the department an oopsies.
The LA Times still hasn't named a single one of these 17 gangs, yet they keep repeating this claim - only sourced from the LAPD - in multiple articles now. Talk about slanted coverage
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy stands as an example of the importance of civic action and service, which have the power to uplift society and bring about change.

EXCLUSIVE: The voice on the LA Fed meeting with Ron Herrera belongs to Hannah Cho, who left Councilmember O'Farrell's office earlier this year. She speaks about buying off the endorsements of democratic clubs and more:
I asked LA City Councilmember
@PaulKoretzCD5
about making only 3 total housing placements - all Project Roomkey - in his district since establishing 41.18 zones in his district. Here is his response:
there were like 40 thinkpieces a week on whether it was ethical or constitutional to mandate vaccinations, and ample coverage of anti-vaxxers. there is virtually nothing out there about the ethics of Newsom's plan to force unhoused people into conservatorships.
NOW: An unnamed group of activists demanding a ceasefire in Gaza has begun marching on Sepulveda Blvd. towards the Los Angeles International Airport.
@LATACO
LAPD basically told people to walk around and stay 100 ft from the house or they'd consider it a targeted protest. Also said the bullhorn needed to stop
LA City Council just blatantly violated the Brown Act by amending a motion to pull Controller Mejia's pick for the Ethics Commission without public comment - all members present voted yes. I approached Councilmember Hutt to ask about it and she declined to comment.
I do wish the LA Times had made an *attempt* in publicizing this story to explain how public records work.
Instead, now there's a narrative spreading that there's some sort of 'breach' when they're actually disclosed.
Pretty dangerous/irresponsible!
This is an unacceptable breach that puts the lives of our officers and their families at risk.
I expect there to be a full accounting of how this happened and a clear plan to prevent this sort of incident from happening again.
The Times has no evidence that the LAPD “attempted to safely detonate” the fireworks. Why editorialize that into the article, after the LAPD admitted they didn’t even bother to weigh the explosives?
A Sgt. Flanagan just walked over to me and grabbed my press pass, told me the City of LA didn't issue it, and that he doesn't want to see me cause any trouble. He also told me there were 1,500 beds available in LA County, which I quickly confirmed was not true with LAHSA
Now: Thousands of people are marching out of De Longpre Park in Hollywood chanting for a ceasefire in Gaza. This protest is led by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow:
NEW: Stonewall Democratic Club president has posted on his FB that the club's panel endorsed candidate Soto-Martinez, and that LACDP - including Hannah Cho - stacked the meeting to endorse O'Farrell. Says he has been threatened with lawsuits by LACDP for speaking out:
BREAKING: Councilmember Kevin De León has entered City Council chambers to loud protesting for and against him. Katy Young Yaroslavsky left the chambers:
Assemblymember Isaac Bryan says the meeting is difficult to have because everyone's heard the most disgusting things on tape. Says the resignations should come first before meeting continues
At a GOTV rally at IATSE Local 80 for Rep. Adam Schiff's senate race this evening, a protester calling for a ceasefire in Gaza was carried away after attempting to confront Schiff:
Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez was the lone vote at City Council today against taking money from a food aid fund to give to expand an LAPD cadet program in North Hollywood.
CM's Soto-Martínez and Raman voted to re-allocate the money:
This is just insulting.
Our CMs are still playing around w/ some of that $ "reinvested" from LAPD back in 2020, & CM
@PaulKrekorian
is trying to re-route funds from "Food Aid" to LAPD overtime so they can expand their "Cadet Jeopardy program" at LAPD North Hollywood Div."
LA Times should be dedicating at least as much resources in covering the treatment of protesters and press this weekend as they have in covering the killing of the two El Monte cops. Instances of police abuse shouldn't solely be covered in the aggregate
Kevin says he takes ownership for the proposed layoffs, but said "Patrick is involved" -- meaning

owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong -- and other senior leaders were, too.
He said they were "forced to move quickly" with the layoff plans, but doesn't say why.
LA City Councilmember Kevin de León - who was recorded having a racist conversation with other former City Councilmembers stating their intention to disenfranchise Black LA residents - will be having a screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on February 28:
NEW: Jason Reedy, the person in the green coat in the video being attacked in the Councilmember Kevin De León, has put out a new statement through attorney Shakeer Rahman.
Says the full video "contradicts the multiple rambling statements De León made":
At a holiday event last night with scores of families and children present, Councilmember de León, a staff member, and non-profit staff person were physically assaulted by so-called activists. Please see the Councilmember’s statement.
NEW: Councilmember Harris-Dawson says City Council will be looking into whether the leaked meeting was of a Brown Act violation. "They were talking about a matter that was before the council." 1/2
CM Martinez on CM Marqueece Harris-Dawson:
"Go get the airport from his fucking little brother, that little bitch Bonin...Bonin thinks he's fucking Black."
CM de León: His kid is.
“Fuck that guy… He’s with the Blacks.”
LA City Councilmembers Nury Martinez, Gil Cedillo, Kevin de León and LA Labor Federation President Ron Herrera making racist comments and discuss redistricting.

William Jones Jr - the LAPD officer who shot and killed teenager Valentina Orellana Peralta and Daniel Elena Lopez in 2021 - is still coaching at Valencia HS. He is also now posting on socials as though he has overcome a year of bad odds: "The chaos is my calm." "📈2021
For anyone who continues to follow encampment sweeps - especially reporters - and talks to City offices about their housing numbers - this is how 82 people vanished and 7 dead from the Echo Park Lake sweep is being described by our public officials.
An LAT writer was present on a Zoom call where Villanueva advocated for warehousing low-IQ individuals in unpopulated areas of Los Angeles, and this went completely unreported
Eyes popping out of my head at this LA DA Gascón quote about LA Sheriff Villanueva: “My dad used to say that when you wrestle with a pig, you both get muddy and the pig likes it,” Gascón said before clarifying that he didn’t mean to insult law enforcement.
