I have responded in good faith to Margaret. I do hope we are not too late to help people like her, so unfairly manipluated and discombobulated by cynical social media messaging driven by dark forces.
“The people of this country must never again be asked to navigate a maelstrom of misinformation in order to decide who will govern them.”
We’re on the side of truth. We are calling for an end to the lies. The deception. The fakery.
@ElectoralCommUK
we are knocking on your door.
I hope you’re proud, Esther. My wife’s a teacher. She is broken by what you and your government have done to her. We’ve paid for stationery out of our family pocket, because you made it necessary. That will always be your legacy.
“We tried at all times to maintain a distance, but occasionally we drifted into one another’s orbit. We were making a huge effort to follow the guidance.”
This just happened and I've just cried. You've no idea what this means to me. To us. We don't get massive audiences online for TYP because we do things differently. As well as being a victory for the team I'm privileged to lead, this is a victory for trusted, quality journalism.
My reporters, sadly, attend court hearings regularly where domestic violence is raked over. Never, EVER, would I blast up the perpetrator's defence. Especially a boastful lack of contrition.
If this is journalism, I'm starting to think I'm in the wrong job.
13 years. 13 years of being robbed. Apparently, we need change. And Rishi is the man to lead that change.
Shut up. Go away. You’ve snatched away our only chance. You posh, privileged, rich, disconnected egotist.
I feel a deep sense of responsibility for not being able to figure out what was going on when this person contacted me in April looking for reasons as to why she and others like her were not allowed to supply perfectly good - life-saving - PPE. Answers emerging now, it seems.
A note of thanks to our amazing NHS. I dialled 999 for myself on Friday after collapsing during work with chest pains and dizziness. I feared the worst. Paramedics reached me in minutes. After tests/scans it turns out I have pneumonia. A relief, frankly. Moral: protect our NHS.
A Tory member writes (sic): “I’m ashamed today. None of us feel we can canvass for her. She’s betrayed us. I don’t even want to admit I’m a Conservative. We’re toast. She’s toast. It’s all fucking toast.”
A little tip for tonight: don't hate the workers. Don't swallow the nonsense that the working class are selfish. Disruptive. Aggressive. Keep your eyes open and stay focused on why they want workers to turn on workers while they can't be arsed to attend a conversation.
Whilst I understand that the Prime Minister's Plan B announcement is a significant development today, I felt I'd be doing our readers a disservice were that tomorrow's splash story. Rightly or wrongly, I felt this should be our priority.
A Tory MP has just labelled me an 'activist' because I reminded him of the Prime Ministers lies. The deceit as people died alone. They died alone because the PM decided as much, whilst surrounding himself with drunken shenanigans. Clinging to truth isn't 'activism' it's decency.
Don’t click the ‘inside
#CarolineFlack
‘s flat’ story. Not even to bring it on here to batter it. Do. Not. Click. It. It’s a grotesque violation of her family’s grieving process. The kind of ‘journalism’ that ruins lives.
You’re not as good as the times or the telegraph, writes a reader.
Perhaps not. But me and my 20 reporters are doing our best on a modest budget. We don’t dance to the tune of a wealthy owner, nor peddle the politics of backers. Everyone is encouraged to think for themselves.
Do not let this Prime Minister tell you tomorrow or the next day that he's identified the rot and cleared it out, so things will only get better. Do not for a moment avert your gaze from the root and cause of the gangrene. Those who have gone are not it. It remains.
Didn’t see this coming. Massively humbled. Should probably hang up my biro, now. Won’t get much better than this. Beats any award that I might have to pay £200 to be in with a chance of winning.
Just said to a colleague: this week I've written more family eulogies than column inches, then I come across
@KayBurley
being laughed at by the Health Secretary as she politely presses him on the one tool that may have saved my aunt, uncle and thousands of others. I could cry.
What an insult.
At least 37,000 people have died of Covid-19 in the UK. Govt abandoned community testing. With a proper test and trace system in place months ago, thousands would have been saved.
This is not a joke. This has been painful for so many families.
I honestly don't care about making friends in high places. What happened today poured manure on kids who are starting from the same place I did and rose petals on the privileged. I honestly feel cheated by proxy. Level up the country? Do me a favour.
When the
@nytimes
picks up a tale from its grand old sister in Yorkshire, you know that what you’re worried about isn’t a local challenge, it’s a disease of our time. Thank you to them for standing shoulder to shoulder with us. Fake news is corrosive.
Good morning, Prime Minister. Whilst you’re here, could we have the £25m your government promised us years ago following the floods of Boxing Day 2015 - to help protect homes and businesses - along with a bottle of red top and an orange juice. Thanks.
It strikes me that what we are seeing is people responding to being taken for fools. Hard working people, who probably would have carried on making sacrifices had those at the top been seen to do the same, who are now reacting to being taken for mugs....
The Prime Minister has made a terrible mistake not doing the likes of
@BethRigby
the courtesy of taking a question from them. Beth is bristling, understandably. Others snubbed will be feeling the same. Ducking scrutiny at a moment like this appears cowardly.
BREAKING: Sheree Jenner-Hepburn claims she was hacked. Knows not a soul in Leeds, she says. So, that 'good friend' that was used to debunk our story was - according to her - a fabrication.
Honestly. I'm lost for words. I feel so bloody sorry for the MPs who feel standards in public life ARE important, because the shame of this will fall on all MPs. They have literally just used your votes - many lent solely for Brexit - to legitimise corruption in high office.
This is a resignation matter for the Prime Minister and her Chancellor. The BoE is scrambling to panic stations to protect the UK because of a reckless gamble - which has backfired - by its own Government which either did not seek financial expertise or ignored it.
Fact: ambulance crews, teachers, barristers, nurses, posties, train guards: they’re the best of us, you know. They’re not in VIP lanes for greasy pole benefits. They’re never gonna get that brand new Mercedes Benz. But they don’t even want that. Their hope is simpler than that…
Deluded. Disingenuous. Dishonest.
Nadine Dorries is a sycophantic fool. Millions of people worked flat out during the pandemic, without feeling so entitled as to break the rules. The role of a leader during a crisis is to do the right thing, not to do as they please.
Because the role of a leader during a crisis is to keep morale high amongst those who were working 17hr days 7/7 as morale slumps.
No10 was the engine room of the country, it was important to keep people turning up and working and saying goodbye to someone who was leaving was an…
Listen. I don't know if a party, under T3 lockdown, took place. I do know that if it did, no rules were broken. Anyway, I'm off to laugh about it in a tiny room, furnished to the tune of £2.6m - by the taxpayer - precisely so we could do this, to their faces, with bells on!
Tomorrow’s front page.
Having been insulted, today - by people paid by the tax payer - and subjected to scurrilous accusations of irresponsible journalism, this is the preface to everything that comes next.
Night.
Q: if the most trusted newspaper in Britain - we don't have much of a marketing budget - crowd funded for a marketing budget to blast up on billboards, buses and notice boards the lies we've been fed (forget the politics, just the lies) would it be supported?
We have regressed too far when women who agree with
@jk_rowling
, women who share her views about womanhood and what it means to be a girl, female, woman are too scared to say so. Do women’s rights matter anymore? Why do women feel bullied out of the debate about womanhood?
That we are even debating whether he said shit'ole, shit'ouse, shit'anything is a national disgrace. This is the Home Secretary addressing one of, if not the great shames of our generation - children living in poverty - and he's led the Commons and his colleagues into disrepute.
Give the RSPB some love tonight. This is brave, campaigning work against a mean, greedy, powerful opponent that gives no figs for the environment. This Government is rotten to its selfish core.

@AngelaRayner
@PickardJE
Sometimes, on special occasions, I treat Mrs M to a bottle of Champagne - £18 from t'local Co Op - and whilst I know it sounds nuts for two kids from North Notts mining stock, we don't even frame it or pop it on a pedestal or owt like that, we just drink it. Crackers, we are. 🙄
If you're offering The Prince and Princess of Wales any advice at all right now, it would be to carry on doing what they are doing. Working hard for the causes they care about, meeting people, listening, helping and quietly getting on with the job in hand.
@KensingtonRoyal
When coal miners of the North - like my dad & his dad - had their livelihoods torn from them, their families suffered. My family. The proud industrial north, left to rot.
What they have done today is worse. It isn't just miners' kids left to rot. It's all of us. Every family.
Meet Sandy. Sandy has just this minute come off my mum’s knitting needles. My mum named Sandy after my aunt who died of coronavirus on Friday. Mum has asked me to ask you to share Sandy in the hope she can pay a little back to those nurses who tried. 😢
@MartinSLewis
Martin, you probably won’t accept this, but you’re a national treasure. A life saver. A hero. Thank you for everything you do with such passion and conviction.
In order to be fair to the Minister, we have assessed him according to the seven Nolan Principles.
Remarkably, he has managed to fail each one. As such, he either leaves his post or we must assume there are no longer any standards in public office.
Unsurprisingly, this is a lie, too. I don't 'love dishing it out to Tories' but I will defend the work of my team against scurrilous smears from prissy Barons and will continue to examine the choices made by any Prime Minister without fear - despite your pressure - or favour. BW.
@JayMitchinson
loves dishing it out to Tories but is amazingly thin-skinned to criticism of his Boris-hating organ.
But despite that, I’m having a lovely time in Yorkshire.
A Valentine's Day love letter to Lord Moylan | Yorkshire Post
Final page on the press.
21 years a journalist. First time, ever, I’ve been accused by a sitting MP of ‘deeply irresponsible journalism’ without writing a thing. Not even a scribble.
One day, we’ll look back on this moment with horror and more horror. Democracy is in peril.
For those sneering at my dad and grandad for working down the pits, giving their bodies and family lives to keep your lights on - when renewable energy didn't exist - Don't. Please.
@danielmgmoylan
@yorkshirepost
You'll find folks thoroughly fed up with sneering politicians who think they're better than us and an awful lot of people who cannot stand liars and charlatans. It isn't about right and left for us, m'Lord. It's about right and wrong. Enjoy your stay. You are most welcome.
The Yorkshire Post says: for more than a decade they’ve neglected the North. Then, in a self-harming act of power grabbing they lied to the North. Now, not just in plain sight but writ large on Govt posters they are robbing the north to give to the south.
@GregHands
@twocitiesnickie
Andrea Jenkyns gave the nation the middle finger. Your Prime Minister broke the law. Your Peers hoovered up corrupt millions. Your health sec was shagging on duty. You all tried to change the rules when a pal was caught with his hands in the till.
You’re surprised we’re angry?
They don’t give a shit about *our* cost of living crisis, which should be simply be called poverty. It’s poverty. And it isn’t a crisis. It’s permanent. It’s permanent because of them. They’re so busy playing juvenile politics that they just don’t see the struggle.
This is the finest example of unconscious bias towards northerners. It sums up Whitehall perfectly. They think Kes is a documentary. They think that donning a flat cap and uttering hackneyed tropes will placate us. Well, it won't. We're fed up of living downstairs.
Our former “Northern Powerhouse” Minister suggesting We up North live for football as the South live for the Arts
No Jake, do not make the inability of Govt to fund/rescue local football a battle between North & South, nor one between Theatres & Sports
I can’t let it go. To do so would keep me awake at night. What Mr Allott said represents a psyche. A culture. A subconscious bias. One that subjugates and endangers women. Is it too much to ask to have police forces led by those who understand? Is it?
The Police & Crime Commissioner who suggested that women could avoid Sarah Everard’s fate by being more ‘streetwise’ appears to be hiding from the public who pay his £74,000-a-year salary. I sense the
@yorkshirepost
won’t be letting this go. Good.
On several occasions I have written to Prime Ministers inviting them to address gatherings convened by The Yorkshire Post. DC, TM and BJ have all been good enough to accept.
However, I want to make public that
@BorisJohnson
is no longer welcome. PM or not.
@10DowningStreet
I grew up in Mansfield. I grew up with kids whose parents couldn't feed them. I saw how shit their lots were. I was lucky. Mum worked on a checkout & dad down the pit. We ate. Some of our friends didn't. I regret terribly that my home town now has an MP who doesn't get it.
Gov has lots of responsibilities: supporting the vulnerable, helping people to help themselves, balancing the books. Not as simple as you to make out Marcus. Extending FSM to sch hols passes responsibility for feeding kids away from parents, to the State. It increases dependency.
I am most annoyed that my law breaking has been discovered, and what I CAN tell you is that I am equally annoyed that my lies didn't wash. It has all left me looking like a bit of a shambles, and so I am going to re-write the rulebook to ensure I get away with it next time.

Press campaign?
@danielmgmoylan
He is the first sitting PM to break the law. He raised a glass - illegally - with friends, putting innocent people's lives at risk, when we were forbidden from the bedsides of our dying loved ones ... because he said so!
You, sir. You are a joke.
Tory Peer Lord Moylan argues that calls for Boris Johnson to resign over Partygate is a 'press campaign' and a 'politically-driven campaign'.
Do you agree?

We’ll do no such thing, particularly where aggressive, rude, arrogant politicians are concerned.
What we will do is carefully analyse the detail, and relay it to our readers. It is a shame you operate like this, as a bit of honesty would improve trust and enhance cooperation.

. We ALL want to see the vaccine delivered to the most vulnerable and stories setting up artificial narratives of north v south do no good for anyone.
Key takeaway to the PM's press conference so far: during the national lockdowns, enforced by police forces, we were entitled to say farewell to colleagues over drinks at drunken late-night parties whilst you were prohibited from holding the hands of your loved ones as they died.
🚨EXC Boris Johnson to water down promise on Northern Powerhouse Rail line
This week’s Integrated Rail Plan will not contain a key new Leeds-Manchester line via Bradford, and will instead see more cash for upgrades to existing route
These gentlemen will for sure be on the phone this morning demanding to know what gives the Bristol Post the right to show them up for being the hateful, child-threatening thugs they’ve shown themselves to be.
Ashamed? That's it? Not punished? Not educated? Please, Prime Minister - do you not see what happens when *your* Govt undermines *your* national team, accusing them of 'gesture politics' for standing united against the very thing you think is shameful? Can you not join the dots?
This England team deserve to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media.
Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves.
We literally exchanged gifts with my parents on the doorstep. They didn't hug their grandkids. We cancelled our annual lunch - for the first time ever - at their house. We were happy to do our bit, in the national interest.
Laughter at Conservative conference when Lee Anderson is asked about cancelling HS2 and the impact it will have on local services, such as those to Bradford and replies: "Anyone here from Bradford? Would you want to get there quicker?"

To those who supported and/or kept quiet about a police Commissioner who blamed an innocent young woman for her abduction, rape and murder - by a serving police officer - whilst questioning the intellect and resilience of all women: why? Why did you choose that side?
@MPritchardUK
My aunt died. Thousands died. Millions sacrificed life moments that haunt them today. Weddings. Funerals. Farewells on death beds.
Forgive me, Mark, if I say: please shut up. Your sycophancy repulses all of us who see through your lies, excuses, denials.
**Open Letter: significant numbers of people have asked me to politely and professionally establish whether or not the Prime Minister continues to enjoy the support and confidence of their (Conservative) MP. Today, as the county's title of record, I have asked that question.
The Yorkshire Post: a sad and chippy cesspit since 1754...
...if by sad and chippy cesspit you mean news outlet that refuses to allow its journalism to be muffled by bullies with gifted status who are long-accustomed to having things their own way.
First they nobbled Yorkshire, now they’re nobbling Manchester. This London Government despises us, it always has. It has lied, lied and lied again and I hope nobody north of the M25 votes for the self-serving, deceitful Tories until every single one of this lot is gone. Liars.
Do I know
@piersmorgan
? No. I've never met Piers. Is he everyone's cup of Yorkshire Tea? Is he eckerslike. Has he made mistakes? Well, don't we all? But I can say this; when I've asked him to help raise £s for people in need, he's been there for me, and for them. Ta, Piers.
"With respect, Prime Minister, we reject your belief – restated in Parliament this week as the UK death toll surpassed 100,000 – that now is not the time for an inquiry. Now is absolutely the time. Not tomorrow, nor the day after."
Special Comment: One Year On.
Parliamentary democracy matters. Our democratic institutions matter and those charged with protecting and upholding them deserve respect.
