We met a wonderful woman this week, Victoria, who we cycled up to as she was happily helping dozens of children cross the road. “I’ve been doing this job 20 years!” she told us afterwards. “We’re called school crossing patrols now, but people still call me a lollipop lady. -1/2

Our poll got over 130 votes, and to the surprise of absolutely no-one, nearly 90% of folks said they’d be more likely to visit Connaught Village if there was a piazza, and low traffic. Business owners tell us this, residents tell us this. Councillors what are you waiting for?

“We’ve had 50 people come through the doors to train as bike mechanics” says Barny. “I’m so proud of these people - they’ve been a great group of folks. After they’ve finished their training, we help set them up with apprenticeships as mechanics in bike shops if we can.- 4/10

It was great to see that 2 groups of Joyriders stopped at the parklet today! Brent and also Camden/Islington. We understand that the folks at La Maritxu told them they’d like the parklet to be permanent, and that they’d really miss it when it’s gone! Won’t we all!

We call on Westminster council to continue the work they did in the 60’s and 70’s in reducing through- traffic. It is clearly a popular measure with people here in Pimlico, and we imagine, all over the borough too .., 12/12

These are shocking stats in this thread. There’s much to be done, but it shows why we need streets that are safe for those on a bike - with protected lanes and roads with low levels of traffic.

certain, when you start seeing the effect motor traffic has on an area, it’s hard to unsee it. “Perhaps some drivers don’t realise this, but under these streets is an excellent system of very fast trains”, says Chris. “Maybe next time they should consider using it”. 10/10

We thought we’d do a Boxing Day thread about an area with perhaps the oldest LTN in London, in place by 1970, the Pimlico Grid ⭐️ We loved that aswell as the old No Entry signs, we saw brand-new traffic islands with freshly-planted trees on. These really help people cross - 1/6

engaging with the council. The planters are new, as is a lot of the Al Fresco seating, and they filled their last business vacancy here in 2022. The changes here cost £54,000, raised working with Cllrs, and what a difference! There’s now a lovely space for people … 6/21

Two thirds of respondents to the survey on Oxford Street said they approved of plans to significantly reduce traffic. Great to see more cycling facilities and greenery in these plans. Londoners really do want to end the dominance of cars.
