I'm bringing this back! It'll be 1/365th harder this time with the leap year. In 2022 not a day went by without me personally seeing a blocked bikeway or sidewalk.
Will 2024 be different? Not so far.
Day 1.
Incredible. Cops crash into bar, bar owner feels the building shake and comes downstairs to check it out. Cops demand his ID, he refuses, and he's arrested.
Yep, nothing more annoying than two people using the road legally and safely! Perfectly reasonable to take your phone out while driving and take a picture of it.
It was the "speeding Mercedes" that struck and killed two children, not this poor woman who's now "fighting for her life."
Embarrassing PR work from LA Mag.
In Cincinnati I tried to use a scooter at midnight and a taxi driver told me they turn them off at 10pm because of all the drunks.
"Why don't they turn cars off then?"
If we spent 1% of the time scrutinizing drivers that we spend on non-drivers...
One might call this a felonious hit-and-run, but police call it "inexperience."
"Officers said the teenage driver wasn't reckless, but inexperienced. He wasn't cited because a vehicle-code infraction wasn't committed in an officer's presence, authorities said. "
Looking forward to the day my wife has to explain to our child that the reason I'm not coming home is because of a "genuine error" involving a blind spot and a cyclist/motorist.
Guerrilla street activism gets results:
"After a transit activist’s guerrilla installation of a bench at a Berkeley bus stop spurred the city to action, more benches are popping up at stops around the East Bay."
@estherk_k
Drivers,
Stop keeping your windows rolled all the way up and your hands all over your phones and pay attention to the bloody road.
You need spatial awareness to stay alert. Especially when your driving alongside cyclists.
If we have to stay alert, so should you.
Looking forward to the governor's press conference and the millions upon millions of dollars we'll spend to get the tracks up and running in mere days.
Like the 10 freeway. Lol
Amtrak and Metrolink service was suspended in Orange County Wednesday after a landslide in San Clemente sent boulders and falling debris onto the train tracks below.
I assume he was honking encouragement... It can't be that he was just impatient, passed me, and then sat in traffic going nowhere for the next several miles.
Parents with Range Rovers: "Drive like your kids live here. Slow down kids playing"
Also parents with Range Rovers : "I'm going to park my big SUV on the sidewalk.
I didn't make it to LA Bike Fest :(.
I was hit by a driver a mile away. I'm ok enough, at urgent care getting my arm looked at. I'll live.
Haven't had a chance to look at video (or talk to lawyer) so I'll keep it at that for now.
Riding in LA shouldn't be this hard.
A man was killed here over the weekend. My first time by it I was passed by four people, all of which driving over 45 miles per hour including a jeep with no front or back plates going 51mph.
This is why riding with a camera (if you can) is so important. Without proof like this the driver would be free to tell police anything they want and reporters would be there to act as stenographers.
This happened on Dundas West this afternoon on my way home from my
@thebikebrigade
run. The guy (licence BR95664) deliberately tried to sideswipe me then jumped out and started chasing after me. Fortunately I managed to sprint away and lose him in traffic.
#closepass
If this honking and revving past me within a few inches is the reaction to me going 20mph in a 35 zone on my e-bike I can only imagine the reaction if I'd been on my road bike.
"I don't understand why your company needs to park a truck with Georgia plates on the bike path so that your workers can you use a leaf blower on the concrete next to the river"
Is a sentence I just said outloud to myself.
Hey LA, this is a sign that plastic bollards along bike lanes DO NOT WORK!!! What a great start to our CicLaVia day...
@LACitySAN
want to talk to your driver's about this one?

I'd be the richest person on Twitter if I got a dollar for every comment I received starting with, "I'm a cyclist..." and ending with the worst possible pro-car take imaginable.
This driver was acting really strangely, so when I had a chance I passed her, finding her buried in her phone.
I had no idea until I watched the video that my yelling at her saved her from crashing into a flatbed truck.
I'll take the horn honk as a thank you.
You're welcome.
@KTVU
Sure glad we live in a society that excuses reckless driving as "inexperience" and where there's no way to cite a hit-and-run driver because police only witnessed it through a recording after the fact.
I don't understand why these companies like Uber and Tesla are allowed to beta test their robots on our streets with no oversight or accountability whatsoever.

Anyone who watches this video and has a reaction other than, "this driver should have their license revoked immediately" should have their license revoked immediately.
Vehicles crash & motorists abandon cars as heavy snow hits Gloucestershire. Motorists were involved in crashes as heavy snow hit the Southwest today (Dec 11). Footage taken at Leckhampton Hill in Cheltenham shows motorists struggling to cope.

This car likely belongs to a cop. I have found that off-duty cops love Dodge Chargers, and they love obscuring their license plates. 911 will probably be a waste of time sadly.
