1/2. One of the boys in my year 11 English class at lunch today: "Sir, swear down you're the best English teacher I've had at secondary school not gonna lie. The way you teach - you're enthusiastic, unlike some, and you make stuff easier to understand and remember."

I've been off work sick since Monday. I arrived for work this morning, not feeling well at all. But, so many pupils, especially my Y8 form group, and Year 11 pupils asking me how I am.."Sir, it's not like you to be off, how are you?" and "Uncle Bucknor, where have you been?"

Highlight of the day: a former Y11 student (Who I didn't teach, but got to know well) coming back to visit, and asking to see a select few staff, including me. So great to see how much he's enjoying his new venture.

I am not doing any school work this weekend (I usually don't on a Saturday anyway). Need a break after a long week. However, one or two jobs for a promoted post (Second in English) to apply for. When you know it's time to move on for your development and challenge.

@misterjjosephs Would recommend lesson starts and routines as a priority at this stage. Focus them on two or three aspects of T&L at a time e.g. lesson starts, establishing classroom routines. Everything else will follow as you get to know how they work, strengths and areas for development

Never underestimate the impact of a phone call home to parents/carers can have on young people (Also on the parent/carer). One very positive call and one less so (Y10) today. Time is often a barrier to this, as other things take a firm grip in our never-ending to-do list.

@WhistleblowingT I'm sorry to hear this. Leadership and management have a duty of care, not to mention statutory obligations. Can you speak to the AHT/DHT who has oversight of ITT/ECTs? If you're not satisfied with the response: 1) continue (I doubt it will get better!) 2) Union 3) Leave.

@TTRadioOfficial I'm in an 11-16 secondary school of c 880 students. We're a good school in a challenging context (just over 50% PP). Our long serving DDSL told us on INSET day that there were around 2400 CPOMS referrals in the 22-23 academic year! We have 3 DDSLs in addition to the DSL (Head)

@smithsmm @BBCNews @GillianKeegan The pay rise is UNFUNDED. This will be catastrophic for school communities. Schools leaders have been put in such a precarious position, and will be forced to make extremely difficult decisions. Shows such contempt and disrespect towards the profession.

@maths_teacherNW @RogersHistory Sigh. I recall a similar experience. Staff morale plummeted. Sent the message that staff had to 'put up with' persistent disruptive behaviour. Targets on peoples backs if they continued to issue these sanctions. End result = many staff left and the school struggled to recruit!
