After multiple shootings, armed carjackings, robberies, and a rape on my block, I’m more than a little perplexed by DC Attorney General Schwalb’s view of the world. Prosecutions and arrests do stop crime.
During a panel, DC residents voiced their frustrations and demanded accountability from city leaders in addressing the violent crime epidemic that's plaguing our nation’s capital.
DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s response: “We cannot prosecute and arrest our way out of it.”
70 carjackings in DC w/i the past 24 days. We reached 900 Thanksgiving Day. I sound like a broken record but seriously what is every single member of the DC Council doing to stop the crime?

Starting November w/ 831 carjackings and 5884 car thefts in DC. By the end of the month we’ll be close to 900 carjackings and well over 6000 stolen cars. Per laws written by the DC Council, juveniles who commit both crimes will receive lesser prison sentences.
Today, DC Councilmember who wrote laws minimizing accountability for committing carjackings is moderating a panel discussion. Today, family planning funeral for man killed by carjacker. DC seriously needs new elected leaders. The current ones are failing us.

Good morning DC. We reached a new milestone on Christmas Day - 950 carjackings. Crime is skyrocketing in the city b/c there is no accountability for committing it. We only have laws written by the DC Council that minimize accountability for the violence on our streets.
At 9:30 this morning we hit 800 carjackings to date in DC. Please thank the DC Council (
@ChmnMendelson
and
@charlesallen

I’m a Democrat and I support recalling DC Councilmembers (Democrats) (

Violent crime is occurring at levels not seen in the District since the early 2000s. We can and must do better to fight violence and protect our residents.
So today, along with 7 of my colleagues, I'm introducing the Evidence-Based Gun Violence Reduction & Prevention Act of 2023

Man deliberately shoots up my DC neighborhood w/ AR-15 rifle…..and he was arrested…No….he’s not in jail pending court…he was released…tired of shooters being arrested and then released. This practice doesn’t stop the violence in DC.

Good evening Phil. Five young girls just beat up a woman who was walking on my block. The victim’s face is black and blue. DC has a crime crisis and instead of going on a taxpayer funded 2 month vacation next week, I’d like the DC Council to pass bills that stop the crime.
When it comes to crime how people feel is important and some residents don't feel safe. But the number of violent crime incidents in 2022 was 45% lower than a decade ago, total violent crime last year was 7% less than the year before.
There's no "crime crisis" in Washington, DC
2 days ago, DC teen charged in fatal carjacking. Today we’re learning of another teen killed in a failed carjacking attempt. DC has a juvenile crime problem and our locally elected leaders (DC Council) are MIA.
Good afternoon DC reporters. If you are looking for a story…DC DMV demanding that owners of stolen cars pay the speeding tickets associated with the thefts….over 3300 cars stolen to date so thousands impacted by this crazy policy.
A young man was killed many years ago. He never got married. He never had a family. I oppose the DC Council’s decision to nominate his killer to the DC Sentencing Commission.
I’m a Democrat and I oppose the DC Council’s decision to reduce mandatory minimums for carjacking. With over 400 carjackings this year, the DC Council should be raising the minimum sentence, not lowering it.
Last month a man shot up my neighborhood and I asked what DC leaders were doing to stop the violence…..the solution…release man to home confinement and GPS monitoring….and try not to remember how many men wearing GPS monitors went on to shoot people in DC.

In 2018, DC averaged 15 carjackings a month. We’re closing out 2023 w/ 77 carjackings per month. One spectacular month marked almost 150 carjackings. Why? Because the DC Council refuses to hold carjackers accountable for the crimes they are committing.
