In a year that feels like a decade, today feels like a month. Things that should not be forgotten:
1. this was/is an insurrection.
2. there were 316 new coronavirus cases reported and 5 more District residents died.
3. D.C. need to be a state.
I am very worried about tomorrow. Please do not engage with these lunatics who are so desperately itching for a fight. They will do anything to antagonize and instigate. They want a fight. Let them fight the authorities and see what happens.
These are OUR neighborhoods. We LIVE here. We are in our homes. Those seeking to overthrow our government are walking around past curfew. I won't make final conclusions yet but I sure hope I read about many arrests having been made by the AM. Stay home all, be safe.
"isn't everyone supposed to be wearing masks including Senators?"
From DCA's website: "face coverings are required for everyone at Reagan National Airport"
Today started so great and ended so horrifically. I am sad for the injured. I am sad for this reality which has become too common for too many. There are huge issues that have no easy answers. Most of us love our DC and our neighbors. We must work together to stop the cycle.
I'm not saying this in a oh I have a huge scoop be on the look out for it, I'm simply saying this as a warning: I'm hearing lots of rumors of spots in trouble. Please support your favorite local places - with take out orders, patio orders however you feel comfortable. It is dire.
Well, we've reached the hour where I just start tearing up. I'll leave you with the words of my daughter as I was reading her bedtime book: "you didn't shower today, did you?" No, no I didn't.
Be safe, hang onto your convictions and courage. Until tomorrow then, Dan
Playing the card game War with my 6 year old daughter last night:
Daughter: Why is the king higher than the queen?
Me: That's the ranking.
Daughter: But why?
Me: [Oh shit]
Me: Keep asking these questions.
The 523 people who have died, so far, of Covid-19 in D.C. are 523 Grandmas, Grandpas, Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Friends, etc. This seems to fall out of the conversation.
This has been a difficult day/night. Thanks to all for sharing your reports and your support. May those affected find peace and healing. May tomorrow be a better day.
So much tragedy so wanted to share a spot of positive news. Was scheduling a post to request furniture/aid for an Afghan couple that has resettled in DC but I was asked to remove it because there was such an overwhelming early response no more items are needed.
We are in uncharted waters but we know we need to stay home. I've gotten so many reports of people partying. This is not a drill. We do what we have to do or people will suffer and some will die. There is no nuance. Don't be an asshole. You can do it.
There is a certain malaise in the air. Maybe 9/11 memories/Covid fatigue/Afghanistan/Climate change concern/general political sadness or some combo therein. You are not alone. Please talk to a friend if feeling blue. The sun is shining the air is crisp and this too shall pass.
When my father passed away my mom took me to her safety deposit box so I knew where everything was. This same pin was in there along with her most valued possessions. Thanks for marching back then mom. Thanks to all who march today. And tomorrow.
On buses, trains, cars, trucks, airplanes and on foot, people traveled from every state for the
#MarchOnWashington
for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. An estimated 250,000 people participated. This pin was donated to our

by Virginia Beets.

“5:30 pm will be the first-ever lighting around the Reflecting Pool in honor of the American lives lost to COVID-19.”
In one hour you may also see and hear "illuminating buildings and ringing church bells in a national moment of unity and remembrance."
I'm tired but it's nothing compared to those on the front lines of both civil disobedience and civic duty. To all who waited to vote tonight, to all who stood tall for
#GeorgeFloyd
I say thank you.
Be safe, hang onto your convictions and courage. Until tomorrow then, Dan
Apropos of nothing, allow me to remind you that on June 24th, 2013 Rusty the Red Panda was found safely in Adams Morgan after escaping from the national zoo.
Amidst all the sadness I just have to give thanks to Jose Andres for his kindness and generosity. He (and his teams) do get a lot of publicity but there are things he does that nobody knows about. He does it because he is genuinely a good human. His purpose provides some light.
Protective Plywood installed in anticipation of the worst case scenarios coming down from the Old Ebbit Grill across from the White House. FYI
@PoPville
In the 90s Adams Morgan was like the best of H Street, Ivy City, Navy Yard, NoMa and more all wrapped up in one helluva night.
Welcome back. But do wear a mask.
Next Month PoPville turns 16 Years Old, We Will Celebrate Nov. 3rd with a Happy Hour(s) at Atlas Brew Works (Navy Yard) AND we will toast in style with a special release, Behold the PoPville Cedar IPA!!
Whole Foods Changes Hours, Store is exclusively for those 60 years and older from 7-8am everyday
And yes, one reader reports they were carding at the door
Based on all the joggers I've seen and based on all the booze photos I've seen - half of us are gonna come out of this in the best shape of our lives while the other half will have lived their best life.
After careful consideration I've committed to the latter.
These are crazy days (and nights) for sure. I just want to note that through the fog I am seeing so much kindness and support that people are showing each other. It's really beautiful. It can be hard to spot. But it's definitely there. I hope you find some of it too. Be safe all.
Just left the protestors walking up Pennsylvania Ave. where everyone stopped to lie down for 8 minutes. Powerful silence before turning to head back toward the White House
@PoPville
Ed. Note: Regarding the "truckers convoy", I appreciate folks letting me know about them but I saw them the other day absolutely reveling in all the attention. So unless you see someone like the hero cyclist or something unusual I will no longer be giving oxygen to such twaddle.
Am I saddened by some? Yes.
Is it going to take away the joy I felt and still feel for the absolutely incredible World Series run? No.
Am I going to buy a
@whatwouldDOOdo
jersey? Yes.
See you at the ballpark next spring.
Anybody who talks smack about a piece of DC, regardless of quadrant, is not DC. Love your neighborhood for sure but DC is a small place, save the hate. Together we are stronger.
