I'm putting myself forward in Galway City Central as the
@pb4p
candidate in June's Local Election.
GCC badly needs a shake up! I want to take the fight for ecosocialist change into the Council. ✊
I'm extremely grateful for any donations and retweets!
Debenhams are reopening in the North tomorrow to have a closing down sale of the stock taken by scabs from workers in Galway, Tralee, Dublin and elsewhere.
Boycott Debenhams in the North! Spread the word!
The Bus Éireann 20/X20 route was privatised and is now cancelled for not being profitable enough for the private operator. Public transport is an essential public service and should be ran as such, not left to the whims of private companies.
Reports of NUIG exam halls operating close to 100% capacity today are very concerning. If confirmed, it would appear the university totally misled students, staff, media & the wider community, and have endangered students, staff, their families and public health.
Galway Coach Station was built on public land with public money (the City Council won a design award for it!), but is run by a private operator who is charging the private bus companies fees they're refusing to pay. So they're using the public path/road outside for free instead.
A Minister who was serious about climate action would be expanding our public transport system and moving towards free public transport. Not privatising it.
Fine Gael's European party are under investigation for alleged corruption during the 2019 EU election campaign.
Looking forward to Naomi O'Leary really getting her teeth stuck into this story!
Labour have voted with the government for the LDA Bill. This bill would erode local democracy and remove the opportunity for local councils to stop the government handing over public land to private developers. It's a vehicle for the mass privatisation of public land.
@SimonHarrisTD
I think most people would find the Gardaí's role in facilitating evictions into homelessness more offensive, inappropriate and disrespectful.
THREAD: Albuquerque, NM, has become the largest U.S. city to permanently make public transportation free for everyone.
It’s a huge way to help those who need it most.
And, it’s saving the city money. Here’s how /1
A leading general has warned that allowing a commercial operator to run the Irish Coast Guard search-and-rescue service will cost taxpayers more money than if the State ran it itself
The new Fine Gael candidate in Galway City East spoke at a protest in Ballybane against people seeking asylum. Said she supports the protests and spoke about the area being under-resourced. Of course it is. Who's fault does she think that is? She's running for FG!!
They really need to pick one or the other between "we're not doing anything to sanction the genocidal regime because we need to keep dialogue open" and "they don't listen to us".
He knows exactly what he's doing and who he's pandering to here. And they'll still try to convince people it's the Left who are to blame for the rise in the far-right.
3,500 students on the waiting list for NUIG accommodation. 3,600 people on the Galway City Council housing list. That's the makings of a big protest movement 🤔

For what it's worth I've changed my mind from an unenthusiastic Yes Yes to an unenthusiastic Yes No. Both options in the care referendum are bad and reflect this state's ruling ideology. Neither option will deliver what people with disabilities, carers, women or any of us deserve
You work a job for 20+ years, pay your taxes, struggle through recession, bank bail outs, austerity, housing and health crises while other people are getting rich off the back of your labour. 1/3
Levying carbon taxes on individuals without offering them alternatives serves only to discredit the climate movement and turn people against actual climate action, allowing Paschal and co. to carry on maintaining the status quo on behalf of the capitalists they serve.
We have committed to increasing levels of taxation on carbon in each budget to come, in recognition of the climate threat we face, says Paschal Donohoe
I see there's a load of racist arseholes salivating over my landlord (Irish) trying to kick us (Irish) out of our home.
"House the Irish" indeed.
The far right are pawns of the property-owning class.
The US military stuff in Dublin today really is grotesque. Usually when these helicopters, ships and troops visit a city it means death and destruction. Impossible to look at them being celebrated today without thinking of the millions of victims of US imperialism.
Paschal Donohoe claiming credit for 56 social houses being delivered at O'Devaney Gardens. This was public land that should have delivered over 1,000 public homes but government party councillors sold it off to a private developer.
It seems there have been 0 stories in the Irish media about Green Party MEPs voting to expand LNG infrastructure the day after the IPCC report or FF & FG MEPs voting in support of Russian oligarchs being allowed to continue hiding their assets in Europe's tax havens.
Cllrs who say we need to build the ring road so we can have active travel infrastructure in the city have no intention of supporting a shift away from the dominance of cars in the city. Their archaic notion of what a transport network should look like is hopelessly unsustainable.
310 more homes in Galway to be taken over by a cuckoo fund.
Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and Green policy has created this situation.
We need a movement of people power to force those parties and the vultures and cuckoos out!
Galway won the Sam Maguire, Westlife was formed, TV3 launched, and B*Witched’s C'est La Vie was all over our radios.
That’s the last time unemployment was as low as it is now.
Looking forward to

's bill to end the prohibition of cannabis in Ireland coming before the Dáil later this year. Public pressure needs to be put on other parties to support it.

RTÉ are scared of homophobic bigots being called homophobic.
Every poll is divise by definition. That's not a reason to not allow democracy.
You can smell the attempt to reimpose austerity in the air today. There's going to be an awful lot of very angry people who have no intention of accepting it again. Think the govt are underestimating that.
We've been saying this since the start - make the rich pay for covid.
This is virtue signalling at its very best. Maybe start with something that would actually make a difference. There are 53 Data Centres in Ireland, 8 under construction and 26 with planning permission and do we hear a single peep about them? Sharing a few bags of turf though!!!
I see Varadkar let the mask slip again. Quite apart from being "free housing", public housing on public land would be a great investment for the state. Over time tenants would pay many times the cost of construction in rents, supplying a longterm income for the state.
Utterly shameful from Varadkar saying PBP should have used our time to put forward housing legislation.
Every time we have put forward solutions he has voted against them.
He refuses to reduce rents, build council housing, end vacancy, stop sell-offs of public land etc etc.
Massive crowds out today to say

. We refuse to be divided. We refuse to let the blame for the crises we're facing be deflected away from those in power. The workers united will never be defeated.
Eamon Ryan says eviction ban comments by Francis Noel Duffy about the eviction ban were meant to reflect that the government made the right call - and he agrees with him, saying keeping the ban going could have “done more harm” to the rental sector.
With Salthill being covered in cars once more from today, it's worth remembering what went on last summer.
Despite overwhelming public support & funding being available, Cllrs blocked the installation of a cycle lane in Salthill at the behest of a group of business owners. Why?
Last week news broke that over 300 apartments planned for construction at the Crown Square development in Mervue were not going to be available for purchase, but were instead to be handed over to a Cuckoo Fund.
Now it has emerged that public money, YOUR money, is funding this.
This is a government policy decision and it's absolutely vile.
Our society has more than enough resources for everyone living here to have a decent standard of life. But they're being hoarded by the rich.

is lying through her teeth. Private developers will continue to profit from public land. And calling housing affordable does not make it so.
This is pure racism. This isn't "concerns". It does absolutely nothing to improve services or transport or housing for the area.
Fianna Fáil's Séamus Walsh and Noel Thomas bear responsibility for this for their incitement of hatred over the last few days.
I've never seen as many FF, FG & right-wing independents attending protests in Galway as I have in recent weeks. When it comes to protests for housing or cost of living they're all very quiet. Now the finger of blame is being deflected away from them, they're happy to show up.
Public transport in Co. Galway is being decimated under

's watch. 5 evening services between the city & Gort/south Galway gone. Now this entire route serving Craughwell/Loughrea/Aughrim/Ballinasloe is gone. Knocknacarra left w/ no buses for 6 months due to privatisation

Your minister has implemented an openly racist two-tier immigration policy and your government has created the conditions that have enabled the far right to grow. No thanks.

We may have hit peak Sinn Féin this weekend.
They're:
- in Washington rubbing shoulders
- speaking at a protest here against Irish politicians being in Washington rubbing shoulders
- and feigning indignation at anyone who points out the incredible hypocrisy.

The national media would melt your brain. Yesterday RBB spoke to press about a family who'd been evicted & left sitting in a park balling their eyes out with nowhere to go. The first question from a journalist was about Bella Hadid & that's what was reported on. Today it's claps.
Attack on students in receipt of PUP is so brazen I thought I misunderstood it at first. Govt made students eligible for PUP & are now attacking them for claiming it. If you don't want students to rely on it, cut cost of education + a covid strategy to allow them return to jobs.
Eddie O'Sullivan using his platform to attempt a flailing, incoherent attack on

and the left. Throwing various accusations at

and they're not sticking.
Very little boils my blood in the way the protection of private property rights over and above the right to a home does. Enraging to see the hired goons smash up that building in Dublin today. The role of the Gardaí in the whole affair is shameful but not even slightly surprising
You and your colleagues put up a fight, day & night during a pandemic. All you ask is for the company to honour their agreement. You get condescended & lied to by FF/FG/GP for over a year until they send the Gardaí in to literally drag you away in the dead of night. 3/3
€155,698 of public funds has been spent on "audio visual technology" for hybrid meetings of Galway City Council, and still the public are denied access to a stream.
Seems to be an incredible amount of school outbreaks if my TL is anything to go by. Government seem determined to bury their head in the sand on the issue of safety in schools. Cases have clearly spiked since schools reopened.
Shannon Airport is being used as a staging post for genocide.
Varadkar, Martin and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan are facilitating this.

This is such a regressive move by the FF, FG, Lab and some Ind Cllrs. It's a trial - if aspects of it don't work they can be fixed.
Like with housing - the rhetoric of these parties nationally on active travel is not reflected by the actions of their reps on local councils.
The "protect women and children" brigade who insist they're not racist are very quiet about thousands of mother & baby home survivors being shafted by the government's redress scheme, and church & state abuse of women and children in general.
When we canvassed Prospect Hill it was nearly hard to find houses that were actually lived in with the amount of short-term lets in some parts.
Look at this concentration of AirBnBs.
Vast majority of these are in breach of planning regulations.

The

Galway stands firmly with the Palestinian people! 🇵🇸
Keep up the pressure on FF/FG/GP to end their complicity in apartheid, expel the Israeli ambassador and pass the Occupied Territories Bill.
Then one day your employer doesn't need you any more and gives you the boot. They renege on your redundancy agreement, don't pay your last week's wages or holiday pay and hold onto whatever belongings are in your locker. 2/3
There was a really big crowd out on a cold evening to welcome the Zapatistas to Galway. Poignantly, the event was held at the Christopher Columbus monument. It's shameful really that we have a monument to Columbus in our city.
Really dangerous and disappointing stuff from Pearse Doherty here. He accepts the premise that immigration is a problem. The problem is the financialisation of housing & privatisation of public services generally. The deportations he's calling for won't do a thing to change that.
Sinn Féin wants an immigration system that is fair, efficient and enforced and in all three of these areas the government has made an absolute shambles.
There's been no communication with communities, no additional services and no plan. It's time for change.
Is that the same way the state were fully behind Debenhams workers when they sent gardaí to physically remove workers from the pickets and allow scabs to break level 5 and remove the stock?
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says he’ll be speaking to CarPhone Warehouse management in the next day or two and the state will be fully behind the workers that are losing their jobs
The giddy, unserious tone of the coverage of the Biden visit from political correspondents is deeply weird. Memes, dogs, bingo. Not one bit of serious reflection on what it's all actually about.
Absolutely huge march for freedom & justice for Palestine in Dublin today.
Keep the preasure up!
Local actions in Galway & around the country coming in the next week. Get involved!

Cllr Declan McDonnell is sending this text out urging people to oppose a trial cycleway in Salthill based on spurious concerns about parking and tourism. He fails to mention that he voted for the trial! Now he's trying to block progress at the behest of business owners.
