It’s 2047. The Luke Kelly statue has been vandalised for the 6,268th time. 14% of Ireland’s GDP is now dedicated to cleaning it. President Paul Mescal says the perpetrators must be caught.
Leo Varadkar on Greta Thunberg:
“The bottom line is she’s a sixteen year old girl who’s trying to make the world a better place. Why would you want to slag her off?”
Dublin Bay South by-election candidate Dolores Cahill is currently in a standoff with gardaí who won’t let her into the count centre unless she agrees to put on a mask

Mary Lou McDonald asked if she has confidence in Stephen Donnelly to deliver the vaccine programme:
“I don’t have confidence in this government full stop. I wouldn’t have confidence in many of them to deliver a pint of milk to my front door”
Depressing amount of people telling me today level 5 wouldn’t change their life one bit at the moment. Equally depressing number of people on Instagram getting in ‘one last thing’ and living like it’s the last days of Rome. We know who the problem is.
There are anti-maskers outside Leinster House shouting in the gates that they’re going to come after the families of people standing inside. I’m all for the right to peaceful protest but this is wrong on so many levels.
There is absolutely no way we as a country will ever be able to repay our healthcare staff for what they’ve done this year and will do in 2021. That’s it, that’s the tweet.

Tubs takes a lot of stick but there’s been no-one better at the Toy Show. To make that as good as it was without an audience and while keeping social distancing took a serious amount of skill. Such a ray of good vibes in a bad year!

Rather embarrassingly some Fine Gael TDs don't have their Zoom chat on mute during a committee session with the Taoiseach and are having a nice chat about Eoghan Murphy's future which can be heard by all...
Ooof.
@HollyCairnsTD
asks Micheál Martin in the Dáil:
"Are you aware of any other housing Minister in the history of the State who has openly admitted to deliberately opting to make people homeless?"
Tommie Gorman happened to visit my school when I was in 6th year for a show he was filming. I got asked to show him around and spent a few hours in the company of one of the greatest characters I've ever met. I changed my CAO to journalism the next day
Trying to buy a house is wild.
"Here take literally all my money"
Mmmm no you can't afford this, we want more
"Oh ok, did you build any I can afford?"
.....No
Had a toasted sandwich for the first time in a while this evening. In honoured tradition I’ll now have 1,567 more between now and Sunday and then put away the toaster for another 4 months
Would love to see the Venn diagram of people giving out about some people getting €350 a week vs people who’ve actually had to run a household on €350 a week

Genuine conversation I just had:
“God Imelda May has fierce energy for her age”
Me: “She’s not that old is she?”
“Oh definitely in her 60s”
Me: “Imelda May???”
“Yeah, your one across the water”
Me: “Theresa May?”
“Oh yeah, I always get those two mixed up” 🤔
Imagine the mortification of being the captain of that ship stuck in the Suez Canal. I can’t even cope when a single car has to wait on me to reverse into a parking spot
Leo Varadkar asked about *that* video circulating online
"It's very much a personal matter. It relates entirely to my private life and for those reasons I don't want to comment on it"
Statement from Social Democrats after meeting Micheál Martin:
“We had a cordial and respectful conversation but our concern is it didn’t sound a lot like change.”
So having canvassed some TDs on what happened with the Leas Ceann Comhairle vote.
Fine Gael think it was Fianna Fáil
The Greens think it was Fianna Fáil
Fianna Fáil think it was Fine Gael & the Greens
Sinn Féin TDs haven’t stopped laughing long enough to get back
In the Dáil Leo Varadkar says part of Ireland's problem is there are too many 3 bed semi-ds and not enough one bed apartments to cater for people who are staying single longer.
I'm not even going to comment on this one.
It says a lot about us as a nation that most people who've messaged me in the last hour just want to know if take-aways and off licences will be deemed essential
Niall Horan now performing in the East Room of the White House for Paddy’s Day (not Patty’s Day he dutifully clarifies)

Say what you like about residency rules etc. But Bundee Aki and CJ Stander played their hearts out, roared the Irish anthem and were possibly the proudest people on the pitch representing THEIR country too. Infectious passion for Ireland

God you’d miss a Friday night out paying €6.20 for a pint* and dancing terribly to the Five megamix all the same.

Micheál Martin did a press conference in the last hour mostly talking about Ukraine. Just afterwards a Ukrainian woman came up to him and said "thank you so much for everything you are doing". They had a short chat during which she fought back tears
Having got my Pfizer appointment over the weekend I just got a call offering a Johnson & Johnson. It’s like waiting for the 46a, two come along at once!
So in the RTÉ barter account figures:
- €5k for flip flops
- €2k on balloons
- €4.2k for membership of Soho House members' club
- €967 on client parking for a talk
- €9k on Aviva Stadium boxes for Harry Styles, Westlife & The Eagles
Not to mention the client lunches

it was inappropriate for a politician to get involved in planning matters in relation to Bessborough in Cork. She asks him how that sits with his weighing in on the An Taisce appeal yesterday
It’s one of Michael Healy-Rae’s better tricks to have styled himself as the country bumpkin speaking for the everyman while also being literally the biggest landlord in the Dáil
"Holy Catholic Ireland was a monstrous hoax." Kate O'Connell's speech earlier where she accuses church and state of instituting "sexual apartheid"

BREAKING: Country will NOT be moving to Level 5.
Cabinet set to reject the NPHET proposal and instead move the entire country to level 3 with greater enforcement of those measures.
Fencing off areas where the 14 - 18 age bracket congregate is an absolute joke. These people have sacrificed a year and a half to help more vulnerable members of society. They deserve a good summer. Let them party.
Amazing watching Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil TDs try to limit or walk back climate action pledges as temperature records are smashed across Europe. Short termism is alive and well
