Drug makers sued Minnesota over a law requiring them to give low-cost insulin to people who can't afford it.
1 in 4 diabetics ration insulin due to skyrocketing cost.
The law is named after Alec Smith, who died after rationing his insulin because he couldn't pay $1,300/month.
Breonna Taylor was only 26 when she was shot and killed by officers when they executed a no-knock search warrant at her home four years ago.
Today, we remember her.

Who tf just walks around punching mannequins? That's one. And two: Why tf would their be mannequins in the grocery store? Especially in the frozen section
Hey just so you know: Memorial Day was created by Black people to honor fallen Black union soldiers after the civil war.
And then the government not only coopted it, but kept Black people out of the military or segregated or just as cooks and support staff.
IDK where ya'll get this idea that disabled people just get stuff from the government.
According to ya'll we get free food, housing, medical care, equipment, personal care, transportation, everything needed to survive and thrive, and all we gotta do is ask.
Just now: Was waiting for the train. A lil girl was there w mom. Lil girl is in a wheelchair.
G: Hi! I like your wheelchair. No one has to push you?
Me: GM. No. This is a power chair. It has batteries and I move it with this joystick.
G: Oh! Where are you going? 1/
In just a few days, people learned about Jada’s autoimmune disease, Bruce Willis’s aphasia, and Chris Rock’s Non-Verbal Learning Disorder. And instead of realizing disability is quite common and in many forms, y’all laugh like ppl just claiming a Dx.
Today, Lawyer Boss found out I codeswitch and how I act/speak at work is NOT how I act/speak outside.
She called me a “Closet homegirl”
She said some other macro and micro aggressions that I just…
Anyway, I almost quit and CoWorker said she was ready to walk out w me
Remember that time Marissa Alexander (Black woman) fired a warning shot at her abusive ex...didn't kill ANYONE...in a stand your ground state? And then she was sentenced to the mandatory min of 60 years?
Remember, stand your ground state and no one was shot.
3. Disability representation in society is lacking (not bc of dis-ppl). Not only was she surprised I work, she was shocked that I work in law.
So, parents of disabled children, do your part ok? Expose your child as much as you can to the idea of dis-ppl as members of society
Twitter has finally verified Prof. Kimberlé Crenshaw!
You know, the woman who coined the term and developed the theory of intersectionality that y’all use incorrectly as another buzzword to sound feminist-woke.
Her.
Yall are like: Protect women’s reproductive rights!
But your focus is on abortion access. It should be on the whole array of reproductive justice issues.
Example, I was barely in my 20s when I just happened to mention tubal ligation to the dr. Dr did NOT…
Dear
#medtwitter
,
If a Black patient requests a Black dr, we aren’t being racist (learn the definition), we are remembering. We remember the Tuskegee experiment. We remember Henrietta Lacks. We remember the “father of gynecology. We remember.
I remember when I first saw dry shampoo.
I thought it was hella lazy.
But I was in the hospital full of people who couldn’t do more than a basin bath because of their disability or they were post-op.
So I eventually learned to check my ableism.
Yall should try it
Now all of a sudden y’all want to talk about respecting privacy and HIPAA.
But disabled ppl have been expected to disclose their medical conditions just to get a plastic straw or a seat on the bus...or as an icebreaker...as of Weds
We keep saying "blaccent" when in reality a "black accent" doesn't exist. "Blaccent" is Black folks way of signaling to others that the person affecting such a style of speech is really mimicking the stereotypical "Black talk" they hear in the media. BECAUSE...
Cop says they have a warrant?
Ok. Demand to see it. See it thru the peep hold, window, slide it under the door, whatever.
But *I* ain’t opening the door and sticking my hand out. Why? 1/
I was already in college before I saw a disabled parent. By the time I graduated, I only knew two. No disabled lawyers until law school. This lack of exposure does something to us. Mentally. Emotionally.
The convo continued on the train until they got off. I took some things from this:
1. This child doesnt seem to see disabled people often outside of maybe the hospital and if she does they are with someone; 3/
G: Im going to the dr for [reason].
Me: I’m going to work
G: Work? You work? And you go by yourself?
Me: I do!
G: What do you do for work?
Me: I work with a lawyer and one day I will be one.
G: A LAWYER?! Mom I want to be a lawyer! 2/
Today I was told to my face that I am not disabled.
I politely directed her attention to the 200lb+ wheelchair I’m in and my invisible legs.
She said: No. you aren’t disabled. You are SKILL-able.
Y’all I may or may not have snorted. I done heard it all.
I want a future where disabled kids don’t have to be lifelong disability activists, bc disabled needs will be considered from jump and taken seriously as a right.
I was in middle school before I saw another disabled (visibly at least) person working and being out independently. She was a school social worker. Wheelchair. Car. Just doing her. I didnt see another until I started working at disabled jesus camp years later.
There’s a tweet going around saying to list your accomplishments for the last 10 years.
Some of us have a CVS receipt list. And some of us just have one thing.
Just know they if you managed to do ONE thing, no matter how little, my friend, you are accomplished
@derek_mafs
@AOC
White people "adopting" an accent to be edgy and cool, and POC dropping their accents around White people for survival, but using their natural accents when they are around folks with whom they feel comfortable. The latter is codeswitching. The former is appropriation.
Have a disabled client. I 100% told said client I am disabled. I KNOW I mentioned my wheelchair. But I get it, clients are super overwhelmed so I guess it didn't register with Client.
I mentioned today about my wheelchair and ...
question it. Didn’t even say I was too young or that I might get married later and husband may want kids.
Dr saw a disabled person talking about tube tying and had no objections.
When I mentioned it, it wasn’t even a serious thought. I was just testing a theory.
This is your annual reminder that Christopher Columbus wasn't shit, the pilgrims were trash ass invaders, and now is a great time to not lie to the next generation about this country's history.
Elijah McClain, a disabled Black young man, was drugged to death. Choking through his last words.
It doesn’t matter that he played violin for cats or was a “good person”. He was a person. Period. He deserved life. Period.
Ya'll remember in the lead up to the 2016 election, and people rallied behind Bernie and proclaimed
#NeverHillary
? Okay well,
#NeverWarren
and snake emojis is how we will get a 2nd Tr*mp term.
And ya'll...there's a grip of us who may not survive under 4 more years.
...it sounded like Client let out a breath and finally realized they didn't have to explain their own disabilities to me. Like, Client just...spoke more openly and stopped trying to prove disability to me.
I was like: Chile believe me. I know the struggle.
Shout out to disabled people. Mail-in ballots allowed so many more of us to vote this year. So many of us got to be heard.
Because they moved in the right direction towards voter accessibility.
in doing so revealed I code switch.
So what does she do?
Ask for an example!!
She asked me to PERFORM codeswitching!!
I really need my solo firm to get to self-sustaining levels
Anyway, if I can't do anything else for Client, at least I know that they realized they had someone who truly understood.
When we say Representation Matters...we mean it.
Happy to be part of the 0.5%
Capitalism and Consumerism over the 1st Amendment
LAPD really just said they stopped a peaceful protest, infringed on 1Am rights bc it was going to be inconvenient for shoppers
Earlier this evening approximately 425 protesters who began in Beverly Hills marched towards the Beverly Center at the height of holiday shopping. Los Angeles police officers were prepared and prevented the group from entering the crowded shopping center.
Cops need an arrest warrant to arrest you IN your home. They don’t need one to arrest you outside.
So if I open the door and reach for the “warrant”, what’s stopping them from grabbing my hand and pulling me outside?
No warrant? No entry.
And actually READ the warrant
I didn't watch another Black man being killed but I did read it.
According to the article, Neely, the Black man, wasn't attacking anyone. He wasn't hurting anyone. At most he was making ppl feel uncomfortable.
Then the "straphanger", a marine, tackled him and choked Neely BUT
@Sia
@leslieodomjr
@maddieziegler
The comments of non disabled /NT ppl in this thread is exactly the problem w this movie. It’s all about feeling good at the expense of the progress the disabled community has made for representation and treatment in society. Y’all care about warm and fuzzies.
Your drivers license/State ID has ur whole address, birthday, weight, height, hair and eye color, whether u have corrective lenses, if ur an organ donor, and ur sex.
And u freely show it to perfect strangers for a shot of tequila
We had to read the Hobby Lobby case in law school as part of Con Law and our 1A Seminar. I was disgusted. You will NEVER see me spending money in that place.
Before she found that out, she made reference to the AAVE “be” and called it uneducated speak.
She didn’t SAY AAVE, she said “Southern colloquialism” but she was talking about a Black woman lawyer (not me).
I had to correct her and…
A couple years ago, Liam Neeson also told the world how he grabbed a weapon and walked around waiting to see a Black man so he could get revenge for his friend’s assault. Any Black man. Didn’t matter who. Just had to be Black
You may be disabled, but if you are white and disabled, please acknowledge that your experience is VERY different from someone Black and disabled, basically non-white and disabled.
Because first and foremost, you are white in a white supremacist country
Being a disabled parent means not being able to show aspects of your life to the public that others may deem harmless…bc you are under a microscope and someone can and will report you for ANYTHING.
It’s why I don’t leave the house w Bean unless my husband is w us
Someone could have paid for her nails.
God forbid poor people want to look or feel nice.
I 💯 guarantee if that woman walked in LOOKING poor, you wouldn’t want to service her.
We Poors are in a place where we can’t look poor but we also can’t look presentable
I remember one woman had like 3 inch fake nails that were bedazzled and I just thought "I'm glad taxpayers are paying for food so you can afford those nails."
Dear White people,
You do not experience racism. You do not get to define what is or isn't racist. Furthermore, Silver referred to POC as "residue". RES-I-FVCKING-DUE! A white man. called POC. Residue.
Not racist at all.
Signed,
A Disabled Black Girl
@SusanSarandon
He would have used the same word if it was white people. This is not racism. People have completely lost sight of what racism is if they think Nate Silver is exhibiting racism by using residue to describe a group of people just because they were people of color.
Imagine living in a world where you have to ASK permission to go into a building, ASK permission to ride public transportation, ASK to go shopping, etc.
Welcome to the world of disabled people.
When we have to ask for accommodations, we are asking permission to simply exist
I can't even get the "disabled bus" because I, a visibly disabled person in a 200lb wheelchair, do not qualify.
There is a chance I'll never qualify for SSDI because I don't have the work credits.
Spoiler: The disabled character gets shot in the back of his head by his “friend” to save him.
It was gross, but schools see it as a classic piece of literature.
When we read it in HS, killing disabled ppl and that harmful narrative was never discussed.
Of Mice and Men should not be in curriculums, especially when disabled students are in the class. I don't care how unpopular my opinion is, no argument anyone could make will ever erase how nauseous and alone and hurt I felt reading it as a disabled child
At the bus stop, a woman is standing in front of the bench. So basically in the middle of the sidewalk.
Sees me coming. Doesn’t move.
I say excuse me. Ignores me. I repeat 3x right next to her.
She looks at me then the sidewalk and 1/
Any of those folks (I'm looking at you Nora Lum) who say they grew up mainly around Black people are showing their behinds since I can guarantee that Black people around them didn't ALL speak like that since, u know, we are not a monolith...
They just CGI’d an entire cast of humans to look like cats for a whole movie. Singing and dancing.
No more excuses for not using a disabled person to play an Abled-turned-disabled person for part of a movie.
Aaron Bushnell died. He was making a statement. He, an active duty air force man, refused to be part of the genocide.
He rests in peace. Rests in protest.
It is not rest in power.
In a now deleted tweet,
@Essence
suggests autism is temporary and you can basically grow out of it or overcome it with “love and hard work”, proven by going to a prestigious college.
#DisabilityAblesplained
A green slime that oozed onto a Detroit interstate, stopping traffic, has been found to be a cancer-causing chemical that leaked from the basement of a local business
Dear Protestors,
Don’t wear anything identifiable later. Plain clothes with no logos. Try to avoid cameras and phones. Make a plan beforehand so you don’t need to use your phone. Your phone pings and as we saw after the summer uprising, those are used to locate/ID
Y'all calling for a
#GeneralStrike
.
Did you ORGANIZE enough to sustain strikers in this General Strike? Did u line up resources for food, bills, childcare, medical care, etc.
Or were you gonna leave that up to strikers?
This is why I can't take half of you seriously
The way this world, not just the USA, treats disabled people, IDK why you think we woke up like “yeah today I think I want (insert disability).
Heck yall won’t even say the word
#PARALYZED
been trending ALL DAY and I ain’t seen not one tweet calling that group out for ableism.
My white disabled counterparts have been strangely quiet. Maybe the tweets and thinkpieces happened but the fact it hasn’t flooded my feed like Lizzo and Bey?
Y’all selective
Dear white disabled people,
You always had white privilege when you weren’t disabled (if disability came later) and you have it now as a disabled person.
That you never thought about your privilege or how it carried over is just an admission that you don’t have POC in ur circle
Hey fat family of all genders,
Summer is coming. I just wanted to let you know your body IS a summer body...because it's yours. It's okay to dress cute. It's okay to show skin. It's okay to dress for YOU. Summer of No Shame.
Mercado’s toddler was taken after she brought him to the hospital bc he wasn’t transitioning from breast milk to solids well and was dehydrated. But the examining physician decided he was malnourished bc of abuse/neglect. But…
It's clear that Jorts' takes on the labor movement and workers' rights doesn't include disabled people.
Jorts (the ppl behind it) are just like many liberals/leftists in that sense.
Boss saw me flinch a lil
Her: Oh are you in pain?
Me: All the time. All. The. Time.
Her: Oh wait until you hit your 70s. Everything starts to hurt.
Me: *stares in chronic pain patient*
Can't call concentration camp a concentration camp
Can't call racism racism
Can't call ableism ableism
So what do we call these things that are definitely these things?
Autoimmune disease: Your body has abnormal immune responses (super watered down explanation). The list is long and treatment may include immunosuppressants like NSAIDs. That means it suppresses the immune system. U know what can happen then? More susceptible to infections/virus
I wrote a tweet yesterday about disabled folks in Ukraine, and the amount of people saying “and also ppl w (insert disability)” tells me that so many of you still don’t see disability as more than what you can see.
That’s part of the disability justice/equity barrier
A wheelchair user is a pedestrian. We use sidewalks. We are safe on sidewalks bc sidewalks were meant for pedestrians. We wouldn’t be safe sharing a lane that requires us to leave the sidewalks and be with bikes esp when bike riders dgaf about wheelchairs in the path
These “jokes” yall making? Is the first time some of you even said the word or talked about disability.
How about doing some googling and learn about this community so you know…idk, that we are people?
AND THE WAY they keep talking up mental illness and homeless status. Like they took forever to tell us the killer's name and that he is military, but took NO TIME to tell us Neely was homeless and call him "unhinged" and bring up mental illness.
Framing is everything
WE DONT NEED TO SEE THE VIDEO OF THE KENOSHA SHOOTING!
I swear you can just tell the story and if you HAVE to, share a screen grab.
Please consider the mental and emotional wellbeing of the Black community. This shit affects us
Netanyahu is shopping around a proposal to US Congressional leaders to “thin out” Gaza’s population and expel the surviving residents into neighboring countries.
The way he put his hands on his hips and nodded his head with a smile? You knew he was bringing the hot sauce.
But also, Mr. WaWa is deaf. They actually used someone from the community.
#DisabledBlackHistory
was made right there. If only it didn't have to be during a pandemic.
The other day
Husband noticing I'm grimacing: What's the pain level?
Me: On ur scale? Uhhhhhm
H: No, on YOUR scale (talking about chronic pain). I can do the adjustment.
Me: Like 3, 4
H: Hm, so that's about 7 or 8 for the rest of us.
Get u someone who just...knows

Society applauds, EXPECTS, fat ppl to restrict. To count calories. To do food deprivation. Workout excessively.
So much so that when we show signs of an ED, it’s ignored and seen as just dieting
