Today, the day before D-Day.
Thousands of paratroopers watch the sun go down. Many will never again see it rise.
They brought the fight to evil itself.
They are our forebears. We remember them, today, tomorrow, and always.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Jim “Pee Wee” Martin’s passing. He is a true legend in the 101st and will live on forever. This division was founded on the sacrifice, valor, audacity and sheer grit of Soldiers like Pee Wee Martin. Pee Wee will be greatly missed.
Yesterday, Dr. Jill Biden helped Santa Claus hand out toys, gifts, and other treats and goodies to Fort Campbell families displaced by the Dec. 9th tornado. This was part of the First Lady’s “Joining Forces” initiative.
Thank you, Dr. Biden, for coming to Fort Campbell.
Today is D-Day.
Many troops were shot to pieces before their boots could even hit the sand. Paratroopers killed before they hit the ground, planes shot down, explosions, anti-aircraft flak.
Remember the price they paid.
Remember what they bought with it.

Welcome home eagles!
Early Saturday afternoon, 129 soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, were welcomed home at Sabre Army Airfield from their nine-month deployment to the Middle East.
We honor America’s beloved daughters and sons who gave their lives to this Nation. We can never fully repay the debt we owe these fallen heroes. Today we vow to rededicate ourselves to the work for which they gave their lives and to supporting the families they left behind.

Tomorrow morning, 1944. Belgium.
The Germans demanded that the 101st Airborne surrender Bastogne.
The reply went down as an iconic part of history, and a reflection of the American spirit itself. We’ll go through it tomorrow.
It was decidedly not “yes.”
The fate of the free peoples of Earth is at stake. The eve of the largest amphibious invasion in human history.
These are the words the troops heard that night. Hear Eisenhower’s words with us again.

Today, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) recognizes, honors and thanks all the Veterans of our nation for their service, sacrifice and support to our country.

DYK: Veteran's Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the armistice for World War I.
In 2003 Gen. Petraeus issued a radio call that would launch the division into Iraq:
"Guidon, guidons, this is Eagle 6. The 101st Airborne Division's next Rendezvous with Destiny is north to Baghdad. Op Order Desert Eagle 2 is now in effect. Godspeed. Air Assault. Out."
Today we say farewell to a 101st Airborne Legend, Tom Rice. Tom was a humble man who just wanted to do his duty for his country. He never considered himself a hero or special in any way.

Bastogne, Belgium. 1944. Walk with us this morning.
We're on the lines with the 101st Airborne. Encircled and outgunned, holding Bastogne. Numb hands and feet, freezing in the dirty snow.
The Germans expect surrender.
They expect wrong.

We are proud to support this great team. No matter the mission, no matter the challenge, we will all rise to meet it.

We all swear an oath. We’re all ready to fulfill it.

We can confirm two aircraft from the 101st were involved in an accident last night resulting in serveral casualties.
Right now the focus is on the Soldiers and their families who were involved.
“This is a truly tragic loss for these families, our Division and Fort Campbell. Our number one priority is caring for the families and the soldiers within our combat aviation brigade,” said Brig. Gen. John Lubas.
The single biggest loss of life in the 101st Airborne wasn't during World War II. It wasn't during combat at all. It happened in Gander, Newfoundland, 35 years ago today, in the blink of an eye. 1/8

Vincent Speranza was a member of the storied 101st Airborne Division and l in the city of Bastogne during the ‘Battle of the Bulge.’
He also happens to have the most famous beer run of all time.
The true foundation of Veteran’s Day is to honor the sacrifices many have made for our country in the name of freedom. Make sure you pause to remember the ones who made those sacrifices so we can be free. Happy

We met our rendezvous. We’ll meet the next one, too - wherever it is.
Army Ranger School is brutal. It lasts months, and it demands the utmost of Soldiers attempting to earn the honor. It pushes you to the absolute limits of endurance.

Nazism threatened the world. When the Allies fought, they fought for everyone.
When the last desperate German attack came, the freezing, outgunned Allies stood their ground and said,
“The hell you will.”
We’ll tell their stories this week.

This is a high water mark. This is what it meant to be Americans. What it meant to be Allies in this fight.
Staring down insurmountable odds, they stood in the face of the enemy.
They told them to go to hell. And they won.
This feels like the end of something.
