Today is the 80th anniversary of the surprise morning attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 1941 that pushed the United States into an active role in WWII. The 10th Mountain Division was created just two years later and helped turn the tides of war in Italy.

Following their success on Riva Ridge and Mount Belvedere, the 10th Mountain Division's momentum through the Italian mountains could not be slowed. With the fate of Italy in their hands, they pushed forward until Allied forces finally stepped into the Po River Valley.

This week he was the division's guest of honor. He received a photo in the HQ and a carved brick in Memorial Park to recognize his sacrifice.
BREAKING: President Trump will posthumously award the Medal of Honor to SSG Travis W. Atkins, for conspicuous gallantry on March 27. Atkins’ son, Trevor Oliver, and family will join the President at The White House to commemorate his example of selfless service and sacrifice.

Did You Know: At Fort Drum, we conduct a ceremony called Reveille and Retreat to the honor the raising and lowering of the flag every day? Reveille is sounded at 0630 as the flag is raised, while Retreat takes place every evening as the flag is lowered at 1700.
