Mad at myself for not watching
#RRR
the earlier, as I loved it. Took a little while to get in its wavelength, but then I was fully onboard. Wish I’d seen it on the big screen.
Attacking Jamie Lee Curtis for winning supporting actress over others who you thought were more deserving is not right. She campaigned like crazy for herself, for Yeoh and her fellow actors, and the movie itself, and has been working hard in Hollywood for decades. BE KIND.
Say what you will about Chris Pratt as a person, but he was the perfect person to play Peter Quill. He brought such humor and even some heart to the role. I think his best work was in Vol. 2.
Joel Edgerton failed his Marvel audition for Star Lord in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY because he "didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way [Chris Pratt]."
"I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord."
After rewatching
#oppenheimer
, I think all of its 8 wins will be deserved (I need to rewatch Poor Things, though, which may still be my
#1
). For a 3-hour movie, it really moves. I think Cillian’s (predicted) win will be an all-timer. This last few moments still give me chills.
On a rewatch,
#PoorThings
is just as masterful as it was for me the first time. The jokes still land, the performances still sing, and the techs still stand out. Hoping it wins at least one Oscar or this will be me:
Really surprised that I liked
#WonkaMovie
as much as I did. I mean, I love
@RealChalamet
and chocolate but wasn’t expecting it to all work as well as it does. So charming, funny, clever, and heartfelt (I teared up at the end). Basically like a musical version of Paddington.
As someone who adored Poor Things and believed Emma Stone’s performance to be an all-timer, I’m happy. As someone who also loved what Lily did, I’m sad. Both of those things can be true.
Ok so now that I’ve finally seen
#womentalking
, I’m baffled as to the lack of noms for the cast. Everyone’s fantastic, and I don’t know who my MVP would be. Buckley and Foy have the showier moments, but I really enjoyed my fellow vegan Rooney Mara’s subtle yet effective work
I kindly disagree with this take. The Piano, Schindler’s List, and Oppenheimer are essentially masterpieces, whereas The Holdovers is just a good movie that doesn’t deserve to be up for Best Picture.
I’m doing another film watch thread, this time for 2022, and my goal is to watch one movie a day (on average). I will include both first time watches and rewatches.
Nearly 2 months after its Oscar win, I finally caught up with
#GodzillaMinusOne
and wow, it really is THAT good. It’s a monster movie filled with action, heart, stunning visuals, and fascinating characters to boot. I wish I’d seen it in theater during its run, as it would have
Someone just called Poor Things “stupid” and I feel personally offended. Granted, it’s not for everyone, but the general moviegoing audience doesn’t always appreciate this kind of art. I don’t care what anyone else says. I freaking love it.
I rewatched Black Swan today and, even with that terrific Actress lineup, Natalie Portman earned that Oscar. Seriously, it’s not even a performance. She IS that character and everything she does is incredible.
I’m doing another film watch thread, this time for 2023, and my goal is to watch as many movies as I can. I will include both first time watches and rewatches.
Just finished
#BabyReindeer
, which is easily the best thing I’ve watched on TV so far this year (probably won’t be topped). Richard Gadd’s deeply personal story is told in such a brilliant manner that keeps you invested throughout its 7 episodes (most of which are short).
Look, I'm not saying that's not Kate Middleton in that TMZ scoop. I'm just saying that if it were revealed it's not Kate Middleton, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.
So, I finally watched the original Scream, and it’s safe to say that I am a huge fan. Major apologies for joining this franchise late, but I’m glad I did. Easy to see why it has become a slasher favorite; it’s really clever, meta, and actually kind of funny at times.
Mark and Patricia McCloskey earned their

I don’t understand how people have the time and/or money to do this. The closest IMAX theatre to me like an hour away. Plus, I generally don’t rewatch movies so close together like that.

When you were little, who did you think was the pinnacle of beauty?
The first shot of her, accompanied by that epic music, is so iconic. Timeless beauty.
I’m starting a 2021 film watch thread. This includes films that are both rewatches and first times. Trying to watch as many as possible, with the intention to see a wide range of genres and time periods.
Best Picture: RRR
Best Director: Sarah Polley

Best Actress: Danielle Deadwyler

If I were to add a nominee to each Oscars ballot:

Actress: Tang Wei, DECISION TO LEAVE
Supporting Actor: Steven Yeun, NOPE
Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, ARMAGEDDON TIME
This is amazing and I feel so warm inside. When I first saw the movie last year, it instantly became something I loved, and a second viewing only improved my love for it. What a journey for this movie.
It has been so great to hear James Hong speak and be so honest about working in Hollywood during a time when it was difficult for him to get roles.
#Oscars
Glad I was able to catch up with
#LateNightWithTheDevil
, an original and imaginative horror film that really takes its time. It’s the kind of slow-burner that rewards patience, and it builds very well to its climax. That said, it’s fairly fast-paced and well-edited.
Looking good for Anatomy of a Fall in screenplay and Emma Stone. Of course, Andrew Scott and Charles Melton won here, but they sadly didn’t receive Oscar nominations
This is the perfect clip, and not just because it shows off
@ArianaDeBose
’s talent — performing the scene with former Anita
@TheRitaMoreno
is the icing on the cake.
Emma Stone is winning the
#Oscar
and i'll let ya'll in on a little secret....
She always was.
She gave THE performance hands down. No disrespect to the other nominees but everybody else was second to her.
@CAPWlDOWS
Maybe there’s something wrong with me but I did not cry here and I should have. The tonal shift was just too abrupt and weird for me. Roman griffin Davis’ performance was so heartbreaking here though
PSA: Barbie was not “done dirty.” It received 8 nominations, including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, and two for acting. You know what WAS done dirty?
