Documentaries should absolutely be in the conversation more when it comes to the Best Film Editing Oscar. Most docs aren't working with any script, so the narrative is crafted completely through the editing process. That deserves more recognition than it's getting.

Revisiting Cruella really made me appreciate what an inspired Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar winner it would be. Only nominee not reliant on prosthetics yet still flashy and unique. A great showcase for both makeup and hair in a character-driven way. Kinda rooting for it now.

THE KILLER sees David Fincher once again create a captivating thriller with an engaging mystery at its core. Fassbender’s cold, calculated performance is an effective anchor. The narrative’s ambitions are limited to the surface but still a compelling watch. Swinton feels wasted.

I don’t know if too many remembrances of Jean-Marc Vallée are going to mention C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005), but I highly recommend it. A great coming-of-age film I remember really liking when I discovered it long before he blew up. What a huge loss.

MAESTRO shows Bradley Cooper’s improving skills as a director. The imagery he creates is stunning, which also captures great performances from him and Mulligan. Fantastic chemistry. There’s so much energy that soon dissipates, leaving the narrative awkwardly assembled at the end.
