Florence Pugh literally wrapped production on Midsommar, was on the Little Women set the very next day playing the polar opposite of her character in Midsommar and still turned in two of the best performances of the year. No one is doing it like her.
People consuming a trial like it’s a Netflix series, live tweeting throughout it, making fancams and reaction videos from the footage, going to the courthouse like it’s a premiere, brands trying to capitalize on it on TikTok… This is not normal behavior. It’s unhinged.
Lupita Nyong'o and Florence Pugh gave the two best performances of the year but they won't get recognized for them during awards season because of genre bias.
It is so incredibly frustrating watching people re-evaluate their treatments of women in the media, such as Britney Spears, Anne Hathaway, Pamela Anderson, Lindsay Lohan, etc, only for them to then go and do the same exact thing to other women in real-time.

A big part of a movie’s creative development is the casting process. Sometimes a role is offered to many different actors before it makes its way to who we end up seeing on screen. Here is a thread of actors who turned down, or were replaced in, major roles in big movies.
1. rogue: an action / thriller that follows a group of mercenaries on a mission to rescue a group of kidnapped girls who find themselves lost and out of ammo. set to be released this year.
amy seimetz’s version of the idol was going to include scenes that referenced jocelyn’s past as a child star.
one of the biggest flaws in sam levinson’s version was that jocelyn being a pop star never felt real or authentic so it would’ve been nice to see that fleshed out.

starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem and Zendaya. Cannot wait for this movie, Denis always delivers!
2. big gold brick: a dark comedy that recounts the story of a writer trying to write a biography about an eccentric middle-aged man. co-stars oscar isaac, lucy hale, andy garcia and emory cohen. set to be released this year.
Melissa Barrera was the heart and soul of SCREAM VI and her absence will be felt deeply. I cannot imagine that film without her and SCREAM 7 will suffer terribly because of this awful decision.
I was a fan of her work but I am now also a huge admirer of her courage and bravery.
Will always be grateful to Jordan Peele for making horror films feel like big, unmissable “event movies,” which isn’t always the case.
So many people who wouldn’t consider themselves fans of the genre go see his movies and it’s so great to see.
3. midnight in the switchgrass: a thriller centered on an fbi agent and a state officer who team up to solve a string of unsolved murders. co-stars bruce willis and machine gun kelly. set to be released next year.
5. aurora: a psychological suspense thriller abut a female astronaut stationed in outer space to monitor solar storms that could possibly endanger earth. set to be released in 2021.
4. till death: a horror that centers on emma, a woman left handcuffed to her dead husband as part of a revenge plot against them. production is set to begin later this year.

showrunner Joshua Safran says he wrote the role of Aki specifically for Evan Mock: “He didn’t want to do this, I talked him into it. I wrote the role for him, I reached out to see if he was interested. He sort of was, sort of wasn’t. He’d say, ‘I’m really gonna try!’”
Just because a film doesn’t mirror your own personal experiences does not make it bad representation. I just think some of you really need to hear that.

Just a few of the magnificent performances from last year that the Academy has failed to recognize.

Emma Roberts was offered the role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad but turned it down, choosing to star in Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens instead. Margot Robbie was eventually cast as Harley.
Tom Cruise was offered the role of Edward Scissorhands in Tim Burton’s movie of the same name but turned it down because Burton couldn’t answer specific questions, like how the character went to the bathroom, for him.
Selena Gomez was offered the role of Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock but turned it down, recommending Demi Lovato, her best friend at the time, to the producers instead. The role ended up launching Lovato’s career.

If Disney is doing this to big stars like Scarlett Johansson and Emma Stone, imagine what they’re getting away with when it comes to less established creatives.
