Apartheid was an abomination of humanity for which South Africans will bear the scars for generations. To compare anything to apartheid is to cheapen the experience of millions of people who may not be down the road but they still matter, words matter.

1News reporter and presenter Melissa Stokes knew her mother felt ready to die. But being told the exact date and time of day she would lose her brought on complicated feelings that she'll never forget.

Always been a big fan of Anton’s mahi in schools, tactfully making teachers face their own bias and the huge implications that has for Māori students #education #newzealand

“The ministry was situating problems with Māori achievement in whānau, when it knew the issue was located very specifically at the point of engagement between teachers and students.” — Anton Blank

Reinforcing the immense disappointment of Māori throughout the motu; The Waitangi Tribunal ruled Cabinet breached the Treaty by ignoring advice about vaccinating young Maori earlier. From the backblocks of #taitokerau to the shores of #tairawhiti #toldyaso #Shameful

Gutted for Kane's whānau and friends. He was so determined to help the people of Ukraine. In the brief time I spent with him before he left NZ early last year he struck me as a very complex man, who's made a real difference on the front-line and beyond.

You don't have to be balanced to bring balance. I've struggled with the coverage of #IsraelPalestineconflict for weeks - former @AJEnglish colleague @SherineT spells it out, from experience and deep insight in the region - words just as true now as they were then.

I wrote this piece about media coverage of Gaza EIGHT years ago. It’s inexcusable how relevant it still is #IsraelPalestine

Touched down in Conakry, Guinea after 34 hours travel from Auckland, NZ. Excited to be visiting for the first time and to see the important work of the #mercyhospital ship. We go aboard tomorrow.

This murder mystery - in the rugged hills of Herekino in the Far North. The death of a retired farmer – killed by a bottle of poisoned wine left anonymously in his letterbox. Who did it? And why? @taniapage

Thinking i might learn to sail or buy a kayak and put my boys in the scouts... feels like self sufficiency in some kind of Waterworld would be helluva smart skills to have in 2033 - esp if Kevin Costner turns up! #aucklandflooding

@JanePublic2 Yes, it was systematic, & governed every aspect of people lives, stripping black people of their rights in their own country. Marriage, education, jobs, travel, walk, sit, swim, it taught people they were lesser which is why SA is extraordinary coz ultimately it was overthrown.

I can't believe it's 10 years since Marikana. #MarikanaMassacre was a terrible day. Miners were striking for 12,500z that's about $1,200 nzd a month for gruelling dangerous work in the Lonmin platinum mine, they just wanted a life of dignity. For days they had wanted their bosses

Watch @SundayTVNZ tonight for an insight into the impact of the #Christchurch #mosque shootings. I’ve been spending time over the past few months with Manal who was widowed that day. Her amazingly raw and honest interview will amaze you. Tonight 7.30pm TVNZ1 @TVNZ
