Less than a month ago I started building a
#WebAssembly
runtime because I thought we can have better alternatives than the existing ones.
Today wasmer is able to run a basic example of
#Python
compiled with
#pypy
and
#emscripten
.
The baby is growing! ๐ถ
OMG! I can't believe it...
I finally got a
#Python
script compiled to
#WebAssembly
using
#pypy
and executed properly with wasmjit!!
This is an incredible leap forward! ๐
Note: thanks to
#RPython
, the script runs at C-like speed... universal
#GraphQL
is coming!
While it's great that Bun added support for WASI, most of that support comes from my original work and countless hours spent in Wasmer-JS.
Attribution is quite important to keep all open-source projects thriving.
Please amend
@jarredsumner
You can now run a
#Nginx
server using
@wasmerio
...all powered by
#WebAssembly
! ๐๐
This is a GREAT step forward towards universal execution!
Want to run it yourself? Here you have the steps to run Nginx locally!
Yesterday was the first
@ycombinator
alumni reunion after a few years (because of COVID).
I loved it. Meeting other founders reinforces the realization that there are many paths to success.
What makes each of us great is our unique perspective and passion to pursue it fully
It took just 3 months for
@wasmerio
to get 2,400 Github โญ๏ธ compared to 2 years to achieve the same with Graphene (
#GraphQL
#Python
framework I created used in +5,000 companies).
I guess this is what hypergrowth look like!
Exciting times for
#WebAssembly
As a small startup using GraphQL I highly disagree. We can develop way faster with GraphQL than without it.
Note: I created Graphene and the GraphQL Python community
GraphQL should never have become a default. It's an incredible technology for solving lots of specific problems at scale. It's a terrible bet for your startup.
@yuris
I am/was in E-2 visa.
My passport got stolen and I needed to get a new stamp.
The first available embassy appointment was almost a year in advance (it used to be a few days).
Something has gone terribly wrong with immigration policy in the US after COVID
graphql-core - the software I created as part of Graphene (
#GraphQL
framework for
#Python
) will soon surpass
#Django
in number of daily installations.
This is big... and what's coming next will be even bigger.
@wasmerio

After spending a lot of time analyzing different WASM interpreters...
I'm thinking of building my own
#WebAssembly
interpreter/runtime.
Why?
Thread! ๐
@ParasocialFix
@jarredsumner
I believe so.
They made a mistake, I reported it and they fixed it. Thatโs all that matters.
Letโs focus on what is ahead so we can keep bringing our best! ๐ช
WebAssembly has a bright future ahead. Now apps like Bash, Curl, Hyper, Axum and many more can run fully in WebAssembly.
๐ข Announcing WASIX: the superset of WASI, supporting Berkeley Sockets, pthreads, processes, signals and many more things!
This is the main reason we need
#WebAssembly
in the mobile landscape.
Instant shipping of logic running at native speed freed from platform app updates.
New podcast episode out now with the fantastic
@kelseyhightower
where we discuss his life, career, the importance of having hope, and advice to his younger self.
Available on all podcast platforms - just search "Danielle Newnham Podcast"
Enjoy!
I'm incredibly excited that Wasmer Edge is now out!
The paradigm aiming to improve most of the challenges with Cloud Computing.
Really great work from everyone on the team โจ
Today I got one of the best advices on how to build a successful open-source company.
I now realize how important is to have both investors and founders aligned on the vision and mission of a company for it to be successful.
WTF is this abusive behavior from
@vercel
?
Using the <Image /> tag results in having a $795 extra in our monthly bill. Note that we are not using dynamic images anywhere (and optimization is a one time thing).
We need to move away from Vercel ASAP
Are you a developer interested in creating a company at some point?
After chatting with tons of founders and investors I started seeing common trends.
Here are some tips on Market opportunities that I believe will become huge at some point!
A thread ๐งต
I opened my first PR to the
@Twitter
algorithm!
It works by setting a cooldown period of 180 days for the block/mute count, so accounts can't be "canceled" long-term by the algorithm.
Thanks for open-sourcing
@elonmusk
! ๐ค
@AleResnik
I'm sorry... I don't see how
@paulg
tweet showcases any contempt for Jews.
Do you think the numbers posted are wrong?
I honestly fail to see the argument
Wasmer is now the most popular
#WebAssembly
runtime in Rust, not just by
@github
stars but also by the number of recent crate downloads! (400k in the last 3 months!)
๐
SVB bank API gateway is taking more than 30 seconds to respond and fails with 504, and consequently, their whole website fails to load...
I suspect this is more intentional than they would admit
@zeeg
Iโm fairly biased since I created the GraphQL community.
But Iโm also genuinely interested to hear more.
In which projects did resulted being complex for your needs? I assume you tried it already in simple and complex projects and did not work out?
โToday I can honestly say, this talk is a love letter to my daughter Kai. Itโs a love letter to the 14,000 girl geniuses who have been a part of the BGC community for the past 8 years. Itโs a love letter to myself 30 years ago, that summer. A mantra to keep going.โ
#DareToKnow
Today I learned that the GraphQL Python ecosystem I created has around ~3 million installations per MONTH! (that's about half of Django)
Talk about creating communities!
I just discovered that Disney and Workday are also using Graphene!
I will be creating a full company list soon, with some exciting gifts for the people that help on the list reports! Can't wait!
#GraphQL
#Python
We just started using
@NotionHQ
to manage the company documents and I couldn't be happier about the decision.
Our workflow has improved dramatically.
Great work, Notion!! ๐
๐ Github Hype
Red: Graphene, the most popular
#GraphQL
framework for
#Python
, installed 10 million times.
Blue: Wasmer, the most popular
#WebAssembly
runtime, with over 2 million total installs.
Keep the party going! ๐
Graphene (and the related packages) have about 500.000 installations per month (that's 10x of Prisma installations on
#npm
, or 3x of
#React
#Relay
)
Are you in?
#GraphQL
#Python
I'm working on a project that will truly revolutionize the way we use and understand cloud-computing.
This is a strong signal that we are on the right track ๐ช๐ช
News to come soon
#WebAssembly
#wasmer
Every ~8 years thereโs a 10x improvement in how computing is provisioned. Bare metal > VMs > Managed VMs/containers. Weโre due for the next step-function improvement and at
@Cloudflare
weโre convinced itโll be built around a technology called Isolates:
I just learned that one of the investors that turned Wasmer down two years ago started to become very bullish on Wasm just a few months ago.
I'm not sure if I should feel bad for them for not jumping into the opportunity at the right time or good for the Wasm prospects ๐
I usually don't get that many upvotes in a single comment in HN, which is very telling about what people think.
The good side is that regardless how much certain players in the industry bully Wasmer (or any others), the community always prevails โค๏ธ

Sometimes people donโt realize how important is to achieve backwards compatibility in software.
If anyone got other ideas to get bash (yeah, bash!) running with Wasm please let us know! ๐ค
Cool let's just bake the massive fucking dumb-ass mistake that is fork() into the next 20 years of application development, what could go wrong. We already decided to keep null pointers and make them worse, so why not bring fork along
Do you like podcasts? And
#Python

Here I talk about Graphene, GraphQL and a bit about

Was fun getting interviewed for it
...my first podcast experience!
2018 review:
- Left
- Started new Company (Graphene)
- Got E2 investor visa
- Pivoted focus, started new Company (

- Raised our seed round
- Got an incredible talented team
Looking forward to 2019.
Happy new year! ๐
#OpenSource
projects are quite interesting to analyze.
It took
@NocoDB
2 years to achieve 6,000 stars and just 2 months to 10,000 more.
Explosive growth comes from consistency
In only 60 days,
@NocoDB
has established itself as the fastest growing open source project in the world, rocketing to 16,000+ stars โ democratizing smart spreadsheets for all โก๏ธ๐ฅ
Mad props to
@CitoZwer
, who had worked very hard to bring

and static typing with
#mypy

Check it out!
Today we are launching our first iOS app.
We made the app from scratch in just 3 months, using frameworks that permitted us very fast development

Aaand... Quiver Cloud is now fully functional!

only for now) :)
Someone added that
@wasmerio
is Hispanic / Latin(e?) Led in Crunchbase.
I'm Spanish, from Spain. And I strongly disagree with having a Diversity Spotlight ...to promote what?
Wasmer shall succeed if we do good business, the fact of where I'm from should be irrelevant
@steveklabnik
This is written by Jake. We did work together on GraphQL Python a few years ago.
If I recall properly when he went to Discord (back when it was small), he was one of the first ones advocating for Rust.
I'm sure he played a big role in Rust's adoption there! ๐
@Austen
In fact, I'd argue that mistakes can be a great propeller for growth.
When you cancel the opportunity to make mistakes, you cancel the opportunity to learn from them.
Humans evolve, change points of view and perspectives continuously.
We need to embrace mistakes, not punish them
@AleResnik
I can't believe how untasteful this comparison is.
It uses the Jewish population pre-WWII.
What is the argument: two religions can't coexist in the same place together?
We need to stop being so polarizing
@JosephJacks_
@bluesky
I'm Syrus Akbary. I once contribute to jQuery fixing a typo in their README.
The experience helped me to realize how important was Open Source to fix typos across the world, it also helped me to practice my English
I just learned that Mozilla fired Dan (main instigator for WASI) and Alex (Rust mastermind).
Of all the moves that I have seen in company layoffs, this is probably the dumbest ever.
It's ok to change directions. It's dumb to let go such great people and not try to relocate them
It's funny when you talk with 10 different people, all from different backgrounds and needs, and they *all* mention they love the direction your company is taking.
Believe me, this is just the beginning!
