Ex rugby player - Neath Ath, UWIC RFC, Neath RFC, Dragons and lucky enough to represent my country Cap 991 attached to Gower College Swansea Rugby Academy
All this negativity regarding regional rugby is killing me. We have 4 regions full of young welsh talent which can only be good for the future of our game. Would you rather watch regional teams full of overseas players because that’s what everyone is pushing for.
Q. All these injuries to elite young players is there a correlation to a lack of playing time compared to gym time? Bodies not conditioned to play the game on the field these players need to get use to the bumps and bruises and face the reality that they will never play at 100%
It wasn’t their day and congratulations to Llandeilo RFC on their deserved win but super proud as a coach and dad to see these boys stepping into that pitch
Very rarely tweet about my 2 kids but super proud of the boy fighting back after 9months out to get some game time under his belt. 3 x 35mins all in the bank 👏👏 well done son
Last walkthrough session tonight for the
@tonmawr_rugby
youth team in preparation for their welsh youth cup final at the principality stadium tomorrow. From 7s - 18s it’s been a hell of a journey and a pleasure watching these kids grow on and off the field 👏👏👏 good luck lads
It would be interesting to see how much rugby all the 20s boys have played this year compared to the Irish. Not assuming anything just interested. Thoughts

Am I the only one who remembers how poor wales were in the 90s. If everybody keeps putting the game down here it’s only going to go one way. What I saw from all regions was a lot of young welsh pathway players giving their all and that’s enough for me.
It amazes me how many players the Irish provinces produce that look so comfortable at pro rugby level straight away they are definitely doing something right and it’s just not funding
Love the way the refs speak to the players in the English game. Approachable, friendly and honest. Plus they let the game flow which results in an entertaining game for players and supporters a absolute win win. It’s actually a skill to know when not to blow the whistle 👍
I know he hates any fuss but Happy 18th birthday to Oliver today. Can’t believe how quick the time has gone but super proud of you pal especially during the last 15 months of injury hell👊 It will all be worth it little Jab
The regional game has been going for 20 years and all I hear is it’s the WRUs fautl that they are all in a mess. Now if the WRU run the teams with central contracts (which should have happened from the start) then fair enough but these companies have been run poorly from day one
Welsh rugby is crazy. From my experience everyone looks after number one and there is no joined up thinking between clubs, regions and the WRU. We need strong leadership from the top with a clear plan and strategy to promote and grow our game and provide a clear path for talent
Nice way to finish 👌 pleasure to see these boys develop over time it’s exciting to see where and what these boys will do on and off the pitch
#excitingtimes
Raising the arm when someone is tackling you is a natural instinct to protect yourself. You see it everyday. Tough red card for me yet again I would penalise the tackler for poor upright technique
Congratulations to all the
@TonmawrRFC
under 16s who represented the Osprey east 16s last night👍 not forgetting Charlie Thomas who missed the photo as he was having an injury looked at plus a big shout out to the 3 players representing the west Ellis, Joe and Sion 👏👏👏
It still amazes me that some clubs are still calling out the opposition on Twitter for not fielding 15. No one wants to play 12 per side but that could actually save quite a few clubs. Are we a rugby community? Sometimes it looks like the hunger games out there. Merry Xmas 🎄
@LeeJarvis10
I’ve always said mate that all regional players 18 -21 should have in their contracts a clause stating these players must be in some kind of educational program this could include learning a trade. As you know to well pal our rugby careers are over in a flash but life goes on
Proud to be involved with this group at
@bridgendravens
this season. The players have really dug deep and put their hearts and souls into the last few months and the results have showed that

How are people still arguing about team colours etc it amazes me🙈 It’s great seeing the club moving forward and in my opinion the right direction. Plus the new shirt is 👌hopefully I can get back up there for a few games this season. It’s a special place to play rugby 👍
Great to see ex
@GCSRugbyAcademy
player of the year Callum Carson come on for his pro 14 debut for the Ospreys. Obviously big ask for him covering 9 due to injuries but he is one of the most talented players I have seen come through the WRU elite colleges league👍
Great to see another ex
@GCSRugbyAcademy
player Callum Carson start for the ospreys yesterday in their pre season friendly. Top top player and future star 👍
Chuffed the all blacks won tonight but this Irish team are one of the greatest teams I’ve ever seen. The connection between 1-15 with ball in hand is unbelievable. Total rugby 👊
Great CPD with the
@LoughorRFC
coaches tonight 👍tackle tech and catch and pass with
@BontHub1
. Incredible numbers and facilities at Cae Duke. Plus a sneaky throwing clinic for the first XV hookers
Another normal day in welsh rugby with merger talks AGAIN. The real issue is that it’s caused no real reaction with supporters. Just shows people have gone passed caring and are totally disinterested in rugby at the moment. Really sad to see
Really enjoyed taking the
@tonmawr_rugby
under 14s to the Cardiff Devils last night I am sure rugby can take a leaf out of their book to help promote the game and entertain the crowd
@WalesRugby
There is already an elite WRU schools and colleges league that has produced lots of our current internationals that no one talks about but if they come from over the bridge it is shouted from the roof tops. Maybe if the media flipped this on it’s head we would see a change
@LeeJarvis10
I’ve enjoyed watching regional rugby more this year than I have for a few years. Hungry, young, welsh players getting a chance to play for their regions 👍 It’s tough yes but Wales will see the benefit in the next couple of years with a new golden generation.
Great news to see James Ratti another ex
@BishopstonPE
and
@GCSRugbyAcademy
player called into the welsh squad this week. James was part of the 2016 WRU colleges trophy winning side whilst studying A Levels
@GowerCollegeSwa
👏👊Great achievement but I know there is more to come
Loved watching mammoth with
@MikeBubbins
tonight reminded me of my old PE teacher sitting in a school minibus reffing football in the rain
#topteacher
great times
Watching Cardiff Met (UWIC) on S4C brings back great memories whilst studying there. I developed as a person and a player over the 4 years plus made some wonderful friends 👍👏
Congratulations to all the
@TonmawrRFC
under 16 players who have been selected to attend training for the Ospreys East and West squads this year. All the coaches are incredibly proud of you. Enjoy the experience lads
Great day of rugby at St Helen’s for the Swansea Schools plate finals. Congratulations to all the winners. Special mention to current
@GCSSportDept
student Llewelyn Richardson for referring 4/5 games 👏 👍
Thanks to
@CharlotteWool18
the new WRU apprentice for helping ref the year 7 festival this afternoon
@BishopstonPE
hope you enjoyed and don’t forget your whistle next time 👍
I still don’t understand why u can’t play or clean out the 9 at the ruck??? Can’t any player pass from the ruck? Can’t any player clean out and secure the ball at a ruck?
Breakfast snacks all ready for day 2 at Rosslyn Park 7s. We have some aching bodies today after 5 games yesterday but it’s all worth it 👍
@GCSsportacademy
@GowerHub
@robindavey01
Get behind it Robin there are a lot of really talented players in this league👍 players who might have slipped through the regional net for one reason or another or players who might not want to be pros due to work commitments
#clubrugby
@LeeJarvis10
self-fulfilling prophecy mate. If everyone keeps shouting and writing that regional rugby is poor and players are not good enough then over time those players start believing it and this is where we are. More positivity from everyone would be nice 👍
@simonrug
I think we need to be talking up our college and university system instead of looking over the bridge as the grass isn’t always greener. The college league and regional academy system has produced countless number of players but all we hear is the one who made it over the bridge
Incredible that is is actually happening. Players put in a position to choose club over country is unforgivable. How this has been allowed to develop and happen is a disgrace. And yet again no one gets to answer for it.
@c_kirwan
Let’s hope this isn’t the last of him in the dragons shirt
#warrior
hopefully the dragons will look after him either way until he is fit to resume for the dragons or another club
It’s heart breaking seeing what the WRU have let happen since the introduction of regional rugby. And as always the players are the ones who get hurt the most. Honestly worry for our game how can an organisation designed to look after its players from top to bottom be so clueless
Bittersweet yesterday.
@GCSRugbyAcademy
2nd XV losing to a good
@LlandoveryColPE
in the cup final 22-10. Then the 1st XV beating
@NHSRugby
to win the Elite colleges B league to gain promotion. Well done to all players involved 👏👏👍
@LeeJarvis10
@MarkRing10
Best one ever is from ex Tonmawr coach
@kttandy
who said one player dropped out of a game because he burnt his tongue on a Greggs pasty 😂
What ever system we move forward with it needs to be able to fund itself properly and keep talented players in the system longer. How many Irish players do you see break into provinces at 25/26? In wales if you don’t make it by 22 you are pretty much out in the scrap heap.
