Exeter’s Labour parliamentary candidate. Campaigning for a fairer, greener UK.

I’ve loved being part of the Exeter Labour team for the last 15 years - and as
@BenPBradshaw
has decided to step down, I’m stepping up!
I’m standing to be Exeter’s next
@UKLabour
parliamentary candidate.
Let’s keep Exeter winning with Labour🌹
Join me!👉🏼
Thank you to all the Exeter Labour members who took part in the selection today - I’m delighted and honoured to be selected as the parliamentary candidate for Exeter! It’s been a great campaign, with brilliant candidates all round. Lots of work to do, and big shoes to fill 🌹
“I represented striking miners for free. Not just sentiment and a photo opp. I backed up my words with action.”
Keir has one mission as Labour leader - to make sure Labour forms the next Government. Only then can we change the country for the better.
Britain is stuck thanks to a succession of Tory governments.
As leader of the Labour Party, I’m focused on getting us into power.
Only then can we deliver the change that trade unions and working people want and need.
For 25 years,
@BenPBradshaw
has been a brilliant MP for Exeter, Labour, and the whole country. I’m excited and very proud to have won his endorsement for the Exeter selection. Thank you!
Congratulation to
@BenPBradshaw
1 truly deserved for his exceptional public service and hard work over many years.
Congrats to all the Devonians and everyone else recognised!
Sir Ben dedicates King's Birthday Honours knighthood to people of Exeter
End of an era.
@BenPBradshaw
is one of the most hardworking, compassionate, and effective politicians the Labour movement has had. Exeter is transformed for the better over the last 25yrs, and Ben has always been at the front, banging the drum for the city in Westminster 1/
We're proud of the lifesaving work our volunteers do in the Channel – we make no apology for it. Those we rescue are vulnerable people in danger & distress. Each of them is someone’s father, mother, son or daughter - every life is precious. This is why we launch:
Thanks to
@wesstreeting
for joining Exeter Labour members to talk about women’s health inequalities. Really important discussion, with experiences and solutions that should be recognised and adopted by the next Labour government - with Wes as Health Secretary!
I’m delighted to be on the shortlist for the Exeter selection. Thanks to all the members who have voted for me in branch and affiliate meetings, and all the people supporting my campaign. Together we can keep Exeter winning - join our team!

tonight - truly public service broadcasting so thank you to the BBC and the producers. It brings home the truly astonishing failures of the Met Police, in process and in culture, and begs the question what it will take for the Met to change.
Great to get out early to support
@DannyBeales
talking to residents in Uxbridge and South Ruislip on a sunny Friday! Danny will be a fantastic full-time and hard-working MP for local people
#votelabour
The Labour Party at its best in Uxbridge & South Ruislip today - huge numbers of activists from across the country having good conversations with residents.
Proud to have campaigned with
@helenadollimore
@FredThomasUK
&
@rishi175
for
@DannyBeales
, who will make a fantastic MP!🌹
Two years ago today, Labour fell to its worst general election defeat since 1935, despite all the hard work of candidates and activists. Two years of hard work later, we’re beginning to rebuild trust with the electorate. Lots more to do before the next GE.
It never ends. This half-baked plan has caused three weeks of panic and heartache for families across the country.
This is the problem with chasing headlines to placate your extreme MPs, instead of creating policy for the benefit of the country.
Happy 95th birthday to
@exeterlabour
legend Saxon Spence CBE!
Today we had a fantastic gathering of Labour Party friends for an afternoon tea to celebrate Saxon’s birthday.
She joined the party in 1945 - aged 16 - and has been active ever since, and provides v sound advice!
Good night out canvassing in St David’s tonight with
@Daniel_VoteLab
,
@DannyDBarnes
, & Cllr Carol Whitton - lots of people asking for a general election sooner not later!
On the day that
@Keir_Starmer
sets out detail on delivering more renewable energy, Just Stop Oil flypost the Exeter Labour offices🤦🏻♂️
Labour will get on with the work to deliver NetZero, creating new jobs and green economic growth.
If you want a sustainable future, vote Labour.
Great to visit Ynys Môn with
@Keir_Starmer
&
@vaughangething
this morning to discuss Wales's huge green energy potential.
@UKLabour
will seize the opportunity to become a world leader in floating offshore wind to deliver cheaper bills & protect our national energy security.
Tonight I laid a question at
@hackneycouncil
full council regarding the Met Police’s mishandled investigation into the murders of four young gay men by Stephen Port. Thank you to
@mayorofhackney
for responding movingly and supporting the family’s campaign for justice.
#fourlives
Thanks to
@Keir_Starmer
for joining us at
@PLHexeter
this morning to talk about Labour’s plans to help people with the cost of living crisis and increasing household energy costs. Labour’s plan will save households over £1000 a year, funded by a tax on excess energy profits
Keir Starmer joined us in Exeter this morning with
@steve_race
, talking to local residents about Labour’s plan to cut energy bills and tackle the cost of living crisis.
Delighted to be on the longlist, and congratulations to all the other successful candidates. Thank you to all the Exeter Labour members who have supported me so far, and to
@LabourCID
,
@CommunityUnion
and
@UsdawUnion
for their nominations. Together, we can keep Exeter winning!
This is exactly what we need in Exeter & Devon.
Our bus service is too unreliable, especially in the outer areas of the city - where they’re most needed.
Bringing buses back under public control will deliver health, economic, and social benefits 👍🏻🚏🚌
Fantastic news that
@TracyBrabin
will bring West Yorkshire's buses under public control 🚍👏
This is the difference Labour in power makes.
A Labour Government will build on this work and ensure that every community has the power and support to take back control of their buses.
Is Penny Mordaunt the new PM already? Where is Liz Truss? She should allow herself to be held to account in Parliament - not go into hiding after causing so much damage.
🙌🏻🌹 delighted & honoured to be re-elected with this incredible team - thanks to
@anyasizer
&
@KamAdams1
for being fab ward colleagues, and to our MP
@Meg_HillierMP
for all her incredible support. Hopefully we’ve done residents proud - we’ll continue to work hard all year round!
Thank you to everyone in Hoxton East & Shoreditch ward who voted to re-elect
@KamAdams1
,
@steve_race
, &
@anyasizer
! We’re really honoured to continue representing all residents, and will continue to do very best to make our ward an even better place to live! 🌹
#LabourWin
My family’s situation and my life was changed for the better because of Labour in govt.
New council house. First to go to university. Proper support and care for my disabled sister.
I don’t think there’s a single family in need who would say the same after 13yrs of Tory govt.
Great sunny autumn morning campaigning in
#Newtown
with councillors and volunteers including first-timers!
Across the city we had around 50 people knocking on doors - no other political party in Exeter listens to residents and acts on their behalf in the same way.
#votelabour
Lovely evening with the
@exeterlabour
team and regional SW businesses and orgs including EDF, Airbus, and the NFU.
@RachelReevesMP
set out
@UKLabour
’s first mission in government - to secure the highest sustained growth in the G7, generating jobs, and higher living standards 🌹
Thank you to Exeter
@JewishLabour
members for the nomination. JLM is one of the oldest affiliates of the Labour Party, and plays an important role in campaigning, policy, and training on antisemitism. I’ll do whatever I can to support that work as a Labour candidate, and an MP.
Thank you to Exeter Labour members for the time you have spent talking to me on the doorstep or on the phone. I'm proud of the campaign we have run, focused on issues that matter to members and the positive vision for Exeter I want to deliver as the next Labour MP.
Love this. Like
@wesstreeting
, I grew up in a council house in a family with not much money, but through the local swimming pool, the local youth centre, and the
@DofE
award, I got to experience a lot of stuff that enriched my life. We should aim high for all our children.
"It’s Labour’s ambition that all children have the opportunity to take part in these ten life-enhancing activities by the time they’re ten."
@wesstreeting
launches Labour’s new 'ten by ten' initiative:
Thanks to the huge scale of responses to the ticket office closures consultation there’s a glimmer of hope that this ludicrous programme might be halted. Well done everyone!
Public revolt could derail plans to axe railway station ticket offices
Great to join
@FredThomasUK
today - we need Fred as an MP in
#PlymouthMoorView
so residents get a good and committed local MP, and
@UKLabour
can form a government to change the country for the better 🌹🗳️
Good luck to all Labour Party candidates in
#Exeter
and across the country today!
The local, PCC, & mayoral elections are the first step in getting the country back on track after 14years of chaos and decline with the Tories.
The next step - the general election.
#voteLabour
🌹
Another great doorknocking session with great
@UKLabour
campaigners in St David’s this afternoon - lots of previous Tory voters who are voting Labour, who are looking for change. Thanks to Labour members and activists we’ve talked to hundreds of people today
#LabourDoorstep
🌹
A big win for Sadiq in London, on top of fantastic Labour wins in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, East Midlands, and North Yorks.
Eagerly awaiting a confirmed result in the West Midlands…
Up and down the country, people have voted to start getting the country back on track 🌹🌹

What a great campaign that
@alistrathern
has run in
#MidBedfordshire
- positive, forward-looking, and with concrete pledges. He’s going to make a great MP for local residents.
A great day campaigning alongside old friends and new - including hopefully the next MP!
Great morning out with Cllr
@DannyDBarnes
&
@BenPBradshaw
talking to residents in Heavitree - lots of issues picked up including education and transport issues, cycling provision, ambulance and hospital waiting times, and deep frustration with this Tory government
#LabourDoorstep
Thanks to
@WeLoveHandS
Labour members for voting to nominate, shortlist, and reselect
@KamAdams1
,
@anyasizer
and me to seek another term at the elections next May! Great team focused on our residents - really pleased and honoured that our members agree
#labour
Thanks to
@DevonLiveNews
for highlighting the amount of raw sewage that flowed into the Exe in Exeter in 2022: *1219 hours* worth of sewage outflow in a year.
We have to be better than this; click here to see what I’ll do as Exeter’s MP

Great morning in Whipton, talking to residents & picking up casework. Lots of chat about the Truss chaos - people want a change in government.
Great team out including
@DannyDBarnes
,
@Naima_Allcock
,
@CllrEmmaMorse
, Rob Morse, and 1st-time Labour campaigner
@Mr_John_Harvey_
!
These next local elections are an important milestone on the road to a likely general election next year.
Electing brilliant local candidates like
@blagden_david
will help us on our way to a Labour government.
Let’s send the Tories a message that their time is up!
#VoteLabour
🌹
Great team out in Pennsylvania ward this morning with
@BenPBradshaw
.
Sunak has confirmed there won’t be a general election on 2nd May - residents wanted to know when it *would* be!
From the NHS to buses, the country is crying out for change - let’s get on with it.
#votelabour
Liz Truss thinks solar panels are one of the most depressing sights; Labour thinks solar panels are a vital part of making our energy secure, affordable, and green.
Already enjoying the handbrake turns and post-hoc re-engineering of their “analysis” of certain left-wing commentators who were desperate for Labour to lose badly 🤷🏻♂️
Big campaign morning in St Thomas today, talking to residents about various issues with council candidate Debbie Darling. Thanks to the
@ExeUniLabour
team for turning out on force, along with
@liddlro
, Tim and
@Mr_John_Harvey_
🌹
Blustery morning out in
#BeaconHeath
this morning - thanks to all the residents who took the the time to talk about the NHS, dentistry, parking and potholes and the active streets trial.
Particular good luck to the lady whose waters had broken before she answered the door to me!
Really glad that
@DrRosena
called me before her Exeter
@bbcquestiontime
appearance so we could talk about the sewage dumping in the Exe.
Thanks for listening to Exeter people Rosena and then holding the Tories to account - you were great on QT!
Rosena Allin-Khan shames Helen Whately on water companies.
But then
@DrRosena
shames the country by refusing to support renationalising the water companies. Get with the program Labour
#BBCQT
First properly chilly days on the doorstep since Spring - winter is here!
Thanks to residents in
#Pennsylvania
and
#Alphington
for taking the time to talk to us.
Plenty of people are looking for change - with a
#Labour
government we can start the job of rebuilding the country.
A good session in Duryard this morning, talking to residents about their concerns & ideas for the area.
@pearce_martin
has achieved a lot for DSJ as local labour councillor - like supporting the residents speedwatch group, and the new orchard.
Thanks to everyone who helped out!
I stood in East Devon in 2015 - while 25000 people voted for the Conservatives, over 5500 people wanted to vote Labour.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to vote for a Labour candidate at a general election.
Also - it’s great fun. Try it!
Labour opens selection processes for 94 “non-priority” parliamentary seats. Voters everywhere deserve the chance to vote for a Labour representative. Fancy standing as a Labour candidate in a developmental seat? Check out the list at
@LabourList
Thanks
@springpharmacy
for my booster today. Community pharmacies across the UK have proven their worth throughout the pandemic. Feel incredibly grateful to have had 3 doses of Moderna while the majority of the world haven’t yet had one - we must ensure everyone is vaccinated.
Great campaign sessions in Priory, St David’s, & St Thomas wards over the last couple of days in
#Exeter
.
We have great local candidates in the local elections, standing on a programme that continues to make Exeter a better place to live, work, and bring up a family.
#votelabour
I confess I had not realised until yesterday’s news the extent to which Camila Batmanghelidjh was exonerated by the courts.
RIP to a woman who dedicated her life to helping others in need.
Camila Batmanghelidjh was my idol when I was younger - pure kindness. I am so sorry to hear she has died and horrified to only learn now that she was exonerated in 2021. Maximum coverage of the scandals, minimum of the fact that she was cleared.
For too long, Mercer has traded on his military service while being coy about his loyal service to the Conservatives and the dreadful policies that leave so many Plymouthians struggling. Let’s change that.
Lots of good conversations with residents yesterday in
#Alphington
& today in
#StThomas
. Thanks to everyone who had a chat, and to our fab activists and councillors who are out every week talking to residents and fixing problems where they can

Today on its 74th birthday, Finland joins
@NATO
.
A Devon lad, Labour Minister (and hero of mine!), Ernie Bevin was instrumental in creating the alliance.
By working together and looking out for one another, NATO remains incredibly successful and vital for our national security.
Another day, another morning talking to residents in St Thomas! Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk about their local issues and their concerns about buses, the NHS, and crime.
Time for change with Labour 🌹
#votelabour
Congratulations
@alistrathern
and
@SarahEdwardsTam
!
Both fantastic and historic wins. Both positive and inclusive campaigns that focused on the future - and how we can rebuild Britain. 👏🏻
Great morning talking to residents in
#Wonford
this morning with
@BenPBradshaw
and our great
@exeterlabour
activist team.
Lots of conversations about SEND services, schools, NHS waiting lists and
@DevonCC
’s neglect of the pavements. Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk!

Three police officers went to an *elementary* school in Tennessee & arrested four Black girls.
One girl fell to her knees. Another threw up. Police handcuffed the youngest, an 8 yo with pigtails.
Their supposed crime? Watching some boys fight — and not stopping them. (THREAD)
Snowy morning of conversations with residents in St Leonard’s this morning! Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk about energy bills, traffic calming, charging for electric cars, and planning issues.
#LabourDoorstep
Thanks to
@JimfromOldham
for taking the time to talk about raw sewage dumping in the Exe.
A Labour government will force water companies to clean up their act. Our rivers are for wildlife and for people, not for systemic sewage dumping.
Find out more:
Anyone in Exeter and Devon knows that the bus system is broken - expensive, irregular, and polluting.
Buses matter to many people - let’s fix the system.
Labour vows biggest bus overhaul in 40 years with new powers over operators | Transport policy:
The French implemented this short-haul ban ✈️ because they bothered to build a high-speed 🚄 network across their country decades ago.
Meanwhile, the Greens in the U.K. also *oppose* HS2 🤯
Lots of positivity on the doorsteps today from voters headed out to support
@damienegan
- despite the rain!
Always brilliant to be out with Labour colleagues from across the region - thanks especially to
@exeterlabour
and
@ExeUniLabour
friends who’ve been out all day!
Great night tonight campaigning in Exonia Park - fab team out on the doorstep, and sorry to those who missed the photo including
@Jacobcousens

‘90% rain’ yeah…”SWW sewage discharge this morning at StAgnes. Unbelievable. A dad just got out this arvo and said to his 3 year old ‘Best wash the sewage off…’ It is still stinking. No way am I surfing in that.

@HugoSAS
Thanks to everyone in Alphington and St Leonard’s who took the time to chat to me and

councillors
@yvonneatkinso14

#LabourDoorstep
Thanks to all the residents in Countess Wear who took the time to chat about national and local issues this morning.
Lots of discussions about issues from potholes and grass cutting on to concerns about the local NHS.
People here are keen to get the country back on track 🌹
✅Tories lose over 1000 councillors
🌹Labour now has the biggest number of Cllrs in the country - the 1st time since 2002
🗳️Exeter remains Labour, delivering for local people
🚪Tories sent a message - people want a better Britain 🇬🇧
⏰ Time for a general election!
Loved talking to
@serauk
friends last night about the work our
@exeterlabour
-led city council does to build future-proofed council housing and leisure facilities, reducing energy use and saving money for residents
#serauk
#LPC23
Loved talking to Exeter & District Young Labour tonight at a Q&A.
We talked about the general election this year, international development, housing, pensions (never too early) and my favourite cheese (comté).
Thanks for all your hard work campaigning! This the year team 💪🏼🌹
A recession isn’t just a number - it’s lost opportunity, businesses that haven’t survived, less money in the pockets of families.
Our economy has underperformed for over a decade now under the Tories. It’s time for a change to get the economy - and our country - back on track.
Rishi Sunak has failed to turn the corner on 14 years of Tory economic decline.
Britain is hit by a recession and it’s working people who will pay the price.
It's time for change. Only Labour will deliver it.
As parents and pupils up and down the country are made aware of structural integrity issues in schools, I've written to Devon Council asking for details of any issues with Exeter schools.
Exeter parents and local communities deserve to know that our school buildings are safe.
Rough sleeping - under the last Labour government there was a concerted effort to identify the causes of homelessness and deliver the services needed to help those people.
Then the Tory government took over.
This is the difference that Labour in power can make.
Great to see
@ExeUniLabour
familiar faces helping out in Filton & Bradley Stoke - a parliamentary seat we need to win to form a Labour government.
@CHazelgrove
is a great candidate and will be such a better MP than the incumbent Tory. 💪🏼🌹
Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning on the
#labourdoorstep
in Lyde Green - including
@LabourStudents
🙌 and Cllr
@kat_alhassan
Lots of support for change with Labour at the next general election.
Well done to everyone who responded to the rail ticket office closures consultation!
99% of the 750,000 responses were in opposition to the closures.
So the Tory government has finally backed down - meaning Exeter’s ticket offices will remain open for now 🚂🎟️
Great to spend the morning campaigning in Bexley & Old Sidcup for
@danfrancis02
ahead of the by-election in December. Lots of people moving from Tory to Labour - sick of the sleaze, and wanting to vote for a party that’s more competent and positive.
Fab turnout for our
@exeterlabour
#labourdoorstep
national campaign day morning session in Topsham ward, campaigning for our brilliant candidate
@exetermatt
and Topsham Cllr Josh Ellis-Jones! 🌹
We’re delighted to reveal that at least 97 LGBT+ members will be standing in the May elections for Labour - a record breaking year!
Watch out for our upcoming campaign days!
Are you LGBT+ and standing for Labour in the local elections? Tell us here:
A ☀️ day talking to residents yesterday in Heavitree!
4 teams of Labour volunteers talked to people about the
@DevonCC
active streets trial + encouraged everyone to contribute to the consultation:
Lots of other conversations too, inc on schools/RAAC.
